user reviews of Wyndham Arms, Bridgend

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Wyndham Arms is a Wetherspoons establishment situated in the town centre of Bridgend. It was the busiest of the 6 pubs we tried and was doing a decent trade in food, with most tables taken. It has a corner location and seems smaller than most other Wetherspoons. The ale selection was decent - Nethergate Stour Valley Gold, Bullmastiff Welsh Red, Rhymney Golden Ale, Brecon Red Beacons, Boss Blonde & Greene King IPA & Abbot. Unfortunately there was no real cider. Probably the second best pub in Bridgend after the Coach Inn (not listed on here).

As a hotel not too bad - it has beds and tellies and is relatively clean
The two drink rule for adults with kids - wow -if you don't have kids I'm not sure what limit is? So was really glad to bail out after two.
Interestingly the barmaid, when telling me about the two-drink rule. suggested I have the strongest beer available (because it was the strongest and with not a jot of irony).
Just like most of the others in there I paid a visit to the salubrious Bargain Booze round the corner for a nightcap top up.
Then breakfast - wow. So what are the drink limits at breakfast time. One fella had a quadruple Bells next to us.
What I don't understand about Weatherspoons is they clearly have people in there with a drink problem, major drink problems and yet doing some PR guff about combatting parents drinking with kids is an attempt to make them seem responsible. Balls - they do not give a toss about people's health.
There is a 'community noticeboard; in the Wyndham. It should have the details of AA meetings so that some of those poor souls can at least be aware there is an alternative.
Disgraceful in a word.

Stayed over here and started a crawl, good selection of real ales (about 5 or 6) at decent prices and quality, food was good value as well. Could do with more bar staff as there were only 2 who were dealing with food orders and drink orders.

Standard Wethers fare really. Fairly lively on the Saturday due to the rugby being on, but the friendly bar staff kept a tight ship. Good to see Old Rosie on tap rather than from a box in the fridge, although it should come with a warning at over 7%

Stayed for a very pleasant weekend - 80 for three nights = bargain! Lodge rooms very good, pub better than average 'spoons with good, well kept beers (a pint of Engine Oil goes well with the Farmhouse Breakfast at 9am!! - well, I wasn't driving that day).

1st impression-poor. You walk in a door that says "ENTRANCE" to find its the Hotel entrance. The bar door is further round the corner. GRR!

However it got better-most importantly on a Sunday evening the chav count was low. A big group of jubilant Munster egg chasing fans were in,and were in good form having a laugh with the locals.

Noted only 6 handpumps, low for a spoons, and one was on cider. Usual cooking ales(GK,Pedigree chum,Evan Evans,Brainlesses) were on. The only "guest" was Cairngorm Wildcat but it was excellent. The barwoman was pleasant but in true spoons fashion she was self catering. The wifi worked, and the tellys had Sky News with no sound.
This is getting scary-another spoons I can't rant too much about.

Wetherspoon's either works or it doesn't! This one doesn't! Awful clientele and staff ale only average walk round to the nearby "Railway" to see how it should be done.

The Hotel up stires is wonderful the staff are very nice and helpful, the room was big had the usual TV coffee etc. The wireless network wasnt working both in the Bar and in the Room. The Bar down stires was busy and very Smokey; however it does have a late licence 1pm.

Don't go there for a quick drink. You'lle end up missing your bus or train whilst waiting to be served. Attracts the local lowlife due to it's 09:00hrs opening time. Surly, could'nt care less attitude.

Popped in for a quick pint while in Bridgend recently. Asked for a pint of Evans Evans ( a Welsh beer ) which wasn't on apparently, despite the pump clip not being turned round. This seems to be standard Wetherspoons practice - very irritating. Settled for a pint of Brains instead - which was actually on. Unremarkable pub - seems to be a fairly typical Wetherspoons, full of the local low-life drinking cheap beer

This is a brilliant place to stay - right in the centre of town and very clean - staff extremely friendly and pleasant and nothing is too much trouble. The rates for staying are great. Rooms can vary a lot - we have had a couple of really large rooms and then had a very small one which wasn't so good - the bed was too small! Only thing is, which happens in any town, is that everyone meets there and it wasn't so good after around 10.30 when it got a bit lary, but had own room to go to if we wanted to.
