What a dive !!!!!
A cattle market of young under age chavy girls throwing themselves over whoever wants to buy them a drink.
Loud and rude and scarily trashy girls and dirty older men looking to "hook up" with these desperate teenagers.
dance floor was a sea of sticky spilt drinks.
The pub stank and the toilets were filthy !!
Staff made u wait a lifetime before service even if u were the only one waiting !!
Cheap drinks but would rather pay more and drink elsewhere !!
Avoid if u dont wanna be glassed at the end of the night or be known to drink in a place where desperate people go to drink to hook up !!!!!!!

I haven't been to a Yates's for a while. Now I think I remember why. This place is big and well located. The clientele were a mix of alcoholics and shoppers. The TVs were showing horse racing, which seemed to be popular amongst the gambling community. The tables were not particularly clean and none of the bar staff were showing any interested in clearing dead pint glasses. Avoid and go shopping instead.

a waste of time, worst yates i have been in, and i have been in a lot due to my job, stay well away
yrrag - 4 Mar 2009 16:46
Should be shut down due to under age drinking.
To much jail bait showing their knickers.
OldOak - 12 Jan 2009 13:59
There was one member of staff behind the bar taking orders for lunch and serving drinks. This is the week before Christmas so it was obviously a little busier than usual. I waited at the bar for 5 minutes and she was still serving the same group that she was when I walked in. There were still another 4 people to serve before she would get to me so I left.

Unsurprisingly crap.

I hear a whisper that there is a new manager coming to Yates and that he is coming from a Leicester Square venue!
Lets hope he can spice up Hounslow and Yates with a bit of central London west end class!!

!!!!!!PEOPLE BE AWARE!!!! friday night just gone the bouncers where charging all customers 5 to get in, much to everyones annoyance, having spoken to Barmen from other yates around the country they all say "we do not charge an entry fee" so what these bouncers where doing was wrong and the money stolen from yates customers has gone straight into there pockets. myself and my mates will be sending there head office letters of complaint. if anyone eles has been conned in the same way then please write to........

I've been to worse places!

Friday & Saturday nights are great if you can't afford to go clubbing, open til 2 am with reasonably priced drinks and half decent music what else can a girl ask for....Oh I know men not to think that the minute she moves she's good for a groping! Other than that thumbs up.
lilaclover - 23 Feb 2007 18:40
your usual big brewery theme pub. not alot of character or atmosphere.

strange mix of chavs and low lifes, some local workers in there from 5-9pm(ish) then the unemployed pikeys take over with attitude & fighting.

NOT A VERY SAFE PLACE or very good beer/lager, best stay top shelf as pipe cleaner aint good for your health!! me & my mate tried 2 different lagers & they tasted abit strange.
3/10 rating
TheAreaManager - 6 Dec 2006 23:01
Shame England got knocked out. There was some great atmosphere during the England games upstairs. The whole new sports concept on the top floor is a great idea.
Can't wait until August when they get Sky and show The Premiership.

If you like your stella cheap and the feeling that everyone is staring at you this should be your ideal bar ;-)
martybeer - 29 Jun 2006 15:45
one of the best selection of beers I have come across in west London. Staff friendly and helpful.
... I've tried something new each time I've been here and every pint was in perfect condition ...
... The place was packed when I visited. A ringing endorsement for the pub ...
... Phenomenal range of beers from all over the UK.A year long beer fezzie.A marvellous advert for London ...
... Definitely one of the best - if not THE best - pubs in the whole of London ...
Tooty - 20 Jun 2006 02:38
What the hell is going on here! The guy Cheeky seems spot on IMV. It's a bit pointless getting into slanging matches with dumb chavs though.

Yates is probably one of Hounslows better pubs, but this is not saying much as they are mostly all dire, completely due to the rough clientele who are either rough young asian locals poncing about after leaving work at Carphone Warehouse, or shot to pieces older punters who have long since lost teeth and dignity (go in the Bell especially for this one)

When you have a pub in a hell hole like Hounslow, where being attacked at night is par for the course, don't be surprised when the pubs are rough! Yates is not a bad choice though if you are in the town centre and need a drink, or maybe lunch.
TheGP - 16 Jun 2006 11:00
with regards to the ratings, i beleive that all the people putting review about yates rated it before the refurb, and although it did have a bad rep for a while hasnt had any trouble for quite a while. now there arn't many long serving barstaff working there any more fro what ever reasons. two of the oldest faces are the deputy manager and the big guy on the upstairs bar. so take into account what these guys new and old (including new management) have done to turn this place aroung making it the only real place to go out in and around hounslow. they cant be doin much wrong if people are having to cue up at half 10 to get into a pub.
anonymous - 9 Jun 2006 13:58
I can't understand why everyone has jumped on Cheeky's back over this.

I believe this website was created so people could give an honest opinion on the pub's they've been in, perhaps so the management can take heed and try and cater for all tastes. I'm aware that you can't please everyone, but you can try!

I have to admit, I've read through all of Cheeky's comments in his profile (boy, you sure do get around) and find he gives his honest opinion and how the bars/pubs can possibly improve. It's a lot more useful than just saying: Good pub, bad pub - nobody can learn anything from that! He also gives an accurate description of what he dislikes, which is a lot better than some of the comment below which simply state: "Full of Eastern Europeans and slags". There is no positives you can take away from that, at least Cheeky's giving positives to his negatives.

You can learn a thing or two from him!

And p.s. - Yates' really must need to improve if it's only getting a rating of 4.2/10 from 18 users. But maybe you're so busy, you don't really care about your customers' enjoyment. If that's the case, the only happiness money can buy for is the fat cats in control of Yates Bars Ltd.
Succulent_Chicken - 7 Jun 2006 17:17
*sigh*

I don't usually comment on the pubs I work in until I have been there for a while, so that I can give a balanced and unbiased viewpoint, but seeing as my name has been mentioned so many times, I guess I'll have to alter my thinking on that in this instance.

Anyone reading this will have to remember I can only comment for the nights I work there, as I don't live in Hounslow, so it's not a place I frequent on a regular basis. On saying that, from the couple of times I have been in there, I think it's a lovely pub. Nice and airy, lots of room to move about in, reasonably priced drinks, and next year's smoking ban has already been thought about, by heated canopies being put outside to accommodate the smokers.

I certainly would pop into Yates if I lived in the area.

Now, onto the comments that have already been made. Firstly let me make this very clear. I value my karaoke crowd above and beyond any pub that I work in, they are the reason that I work in Hounslow and choose to drive for an hour and half during rush hour to get to Yates, and arrive home shortly after 2am. It's a long night, but one that I am happy to do, not only for the people that currently 'follow me around', but also in the hopes that I make new friends, and lots of money for the pub!

Just because I love the people that come to my gigs (many are more than just singers to me, they have become good friends too) does not mean I will always agree with everything they say, and they know that if I have something to say, I will say it.

Cheeky is certainly entitled to his opinions, as are we all, but I think I should address some of the points he raised.

Plastic glasses...he clearly said he accepted the reasons why they had to be used, just that his preference was for real glass. Late licensing laws have to blamed for that, nothing to do with Yates at all.

Lighting. I'm not really sure where to go with this one. The rotating lights weren't put on until late into the evening, so it wasn't a case of having to put up with them all night. Perhaps the lighting sequence can be looked at, so that it's not such a consistant beam every thirty seconds.

The fracas. Yes there was one, but I saw nothing of the scuffle myself, only bouncers finding out where it was, and containing it before it was brought into the main hall. I have also been reliably informed that it was the first scuffle in six months.

Clientele. I actually didn't find them to be any different to any other pub I go into. A mixture of ages, some more reserved than others, but I certainly didn't feel under any pressure or felt threatened in any way...a couple of times I thought my TV might get knocked, but that's because they were having a good time dancing, and one of the doormen came over whenever it looked like it might get bumped into, just to keep an eye. Normal, boisterous late night crowd.

Toilets. I cannot speak for the men's as I didn't go in there, but the ladies' was rather nice, and two big rolls of loo paper on the back shelf of the cubicle were provided.

Pole Dancing. This is where I have to lean towards Cheeky's viewpoint. It wasn't exactly the high point of the evening, in fact more people left while it was on than any other time, en masse! I think the men thought it was going to be more of salacious affair. Unfortunately, by the time the girls (and guys!) have had enough to drink to get up the courage to do it, they've also had too much to drink, to do it properly!

Umm..his other points, well, I can't really say much there can I? I thank you for them Cheeky, but don't go OTT...you might leave some people feeling rather disappointed when they actually see me!

All in all, I'm rather excited to be at this new pub, and hope that those of you out there that are reading all these comments, choose to come in and make your own minds up.
mandyb - 7 Jun 2006 15:51

Well, at least I have opinions unlike you automatons who follow the crowds like sheep, and I can project my opinions without being insulting to anyone, unlike yourselves... I also have the added bonus of being able to spell.

I don't care if you disagree with my opinion, at least I can be tactful and list what I find unappealing or distasteful. I'm also individual enough to drink wherever I want and not chase tails into sleazy dives.

Have a pleasant drink, I would say have one on me, but I'm sure the unemployed are living off my taxes anyway. :)
CheekyShepherd - 7 Jun 2006 13:59
Yates is a good bar and are bringing in many new things which seem to be taking off. I have enjoyed coming into the venue since the refurbishment and have seen a great difference. Well done to Yates and I look forward to many more good nights out.
anonymous - 6 Jun 2006 15:22
Well I have never read such rubbish in my whole life. The last comment listing 7 bad points to yates in hounslow is obviously posted by some person with such a crap personality who only has time to bitch about things, either that or its a licensee of another bar.

Surely you can appreciate that drinking out of of plastic cups is for the safety of everyone that drinks in the venue. I much prefer to know that if something kicks of then at least if a drink is thrown and I am hit my mistake then I am not going to get hurt! So what, it's a little plastic, it's not going to kill you!

If you dont' like the lighting then go sit somewhere else.

The bar is so much better than it was and I myself and everyone that I know that has been in the venue which is a huge proportion of Hounslow think that the pub is so much better and looks good.

Regrding the Pole dancing. It's a bit of fun for people to get up and enjoy. I bet you didn't have the guts to get up and give it a go! So before you sit on your critsing arse with nothing better to do how about you think of how much guts it takes to get up and do that. You wouldn't do it so show some respect for those that do. They may not be good but that is besides the point.

I see that you are obviously a fan of Mandie, and you prob are a very bad singer, but do we critise you for it no, you have the guts to get up and do it which is more than alot. Notice how you didn't comment on the bad singers just the bad pole dancers!

To be honest if you think the venue is so bad maybe it would be best not to go in there. I am sure that the people of Hounslow that go in the venue could do alot better with people like you not in the pub and would prob make the pub a better place. Go to one of Mandies Kareokes somewhere else and give us some peace from your boring petty remarks
anonymous - 6 Jun 2006 15:18
the last 2 points may be decent to the few but its strange how this is pub is packed most of the week compaired to the rest of the pubs in Hounslow. At least you 2 will be happy that she has another pubs in hounslow so will not be coming back if this place is so bad. As i have a drink in here every night after work to relax and to go out most friday nights here. the food and drinks are great. i have not seen major problems in the bar for a long time, and i was there on the 1st karoake night and saw the door security deal with something, however i never saw any fight and never once felt threaten in here at all. To the 2 of you who follow Mandy everywhere, would Mandy [or anyone] really work somewhere, where she felt threaten?
anonymous - 6 Jun 2006 15:06
AARRGH!!

I would never have come in here again if it wasn't for Mandy doing the karaoke on Thursday.

I've got a billion things to say but am not too sure if I can express my opinions monosyllabically enough for others to understand them.

Let me catch a breath!

**The Bad Points**
1) I thoroughly detest drinking out of plastic cups, since they have to do this for the late license I'll not make a big thing of it, but it seems a little too barbeque/picnic in the park. Is Yates' really so rough that plastic glasses have to be distributed after 9. Even bottled beverages (Smirnoff Ice/Beers/Magners,etc) are poured by the bar-staff into the universally-non-threatening-when-smashed vessel. When I go for a drink though, I want a *glass* of beer. It just feels right.

2) The lighting in this pub is awful. The dance floor needs lights, I'll concur, but when you're sitting and having a drink with friends and have to shield your eyes every 30 seconds, it becomes a bit monotonous. Do the lights really have to rotate 360?

3) There was a fracas during the evening, that the bouncers dealt with efficiently enough. However, I felt that they put other people at risk before isolating the trouble. There was an eternally lingering vibe during the night, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was trouble after I left.

4) The clientele. I'm not just talking about the typical Hounslow nutters, but I'm generalising about the people that Yates' as a business/bar/social house entices as a demographic. All the guys seemed like the "geezer/chav" type, the kind who are so insecure in their life they have to go out PURELY to get pissed out of their face. The girls seemed to be the usual low-maintenance-who-think-their-high-maintenance cosmopolitan chavette's that Hounslow seems to have become accustom to. I don't see this bar as a very social place, it's okay if you're amongst friends, but Billy-no-mates will not like it in here for love or money. He'll probably get beaten up to!

5) The toilets were below standard. There is a placard on the wall which clearly states the toilets are checked and cleaned every 30 minutes. However, I was in the bar for over 3 hours and everytime I went to the commode, the paper dispenser was empty, and the whole bog was, to put it bluntly, a shithole.

6) The pole dancing contest - beyond words, simply pathetic.

7) The fact that this pub will be either one of two things = 1. Shannons II (same vibe, crowd, atmosphere); 2. The Big Brother House (people vying for attention, acting up for the CCTV cameras)

-------------------------

**The Good Points**

1) Mandy's karaoke- there is no finer karaoke host, she bursts with enthusiasm and does her very best to get everyone involved. Her song book is the best I've ever seen - constantly up-to-date with current hits, plus the golden oldies, and some rare rock songs which are ne'er to be found in other comperes books. If Mandy was here every night I'd come to support her!
2) Mandy's karaoke regulars - There is a small group enough, pathetic as it may seem, who have supported her karaoke since she started in Shannons. We don't particularly *like* her venues, but we'll support her through thick and thin because we like her and we like each other. We were easily the most relaxed clientele in there last night and we spent a few bob behind the bar. We're not the type to order a coke and nurse it throughout the hours. We drink to be social and socialise as we drink.
3) Mandy's Karaoke....

CheekyShepherd - 2 Jun 2006 14:18
mr anonymous...i beleive they are starting pole dancing nights soon and the last few weeks have had a lot of fitties.
bigb - 31 May 2006 18:00
eeeeerrr one thing some boys are such pricks there so immature & think there so hard but they dnt know wat i know they need 2 grow up & get a life. wats goin on weres all the fitties????? theres never any in there u should ave some some sort of fit policy also i dnt like the lighting sort it out xxxxxx
anonymous - 25 May 2006 14:07
Blimey! How did I get dragged into all of that!?

By the way, I am now available for karaoke on Thursday nights, if Yates haven't found anyone else yet :)
mandyb - 25 May 2006 11:12
cheeky is ur age on ur profile correct or is there a digit missing before the 26??? for someone of ur age ur pathetically critical about places you never frequent? maybe ur upset about not getting an invite to opening night! haha. for ur information i DID get an invite and i was plesently supprised. not only does the pub look pretty dam good (infact too good for hounslow) the new food menu is awesome, probably some of the best pub food in hounslow now. to top this off you dont even have to get out of ur seat to get a drink, the staff bring it over to u, you dont even have to ask for one, they ask u. I must say whoever hez is he has some good pionts youd do well to take notice. though if ur attitude on here is reflected in ur personality you probably wouldnt get let in.
bigb - 23 May 2006 19:46

Geez - what a big man you are Hez, slandering me anonymously over the internet.

What's your problem? Do you have a problem with my choices of pubs I'd rather drink in rather than the paean to promiscuity that it Yates'? Or do you merely have an issue with the fact that my opinion does not match yours?

I have always stood by the fact that I go to a pub for a stress-free night and to socialise - dancing with short-skirted chicks to incomprehensible "shit-hop" and chart music will always be a very distant second! Regardless of how cheap the beer is! Yates' is filled with the types I wouldn't give the time of day to passing in the street nevermind spending a few hours socialising with them over warm Foster's and "deal-of-the-month" buy-one-get-one free WKD's!

And f.y.i - My change of opinion over Larkin's isn't due to Mandy's karaoke - but more due to the fact that my lying bitch of ex-girlfriend no longer drinks there, stirring up lies between me and the other decent Hounslow folk.

And as for your comment about all comments letting in BAD customers - well, all I can say is you sure do get about. Despite the fact that you obviously can't read my review of pubs which ARE satisfactory in my opinion.

The difference is I refuse to drink in a place where the "talent on offer" I can flirt with(females - if you're not on my wavelength) have more diseases than the monkey in Outbreak.

Oh well - if Yates' ever shuts down - you'll always have the Hammersmith Palais!!!!

=D
CheekyShepherd - 23 May 2006 11:02
Cheeky, you must be an idiot with your last message, if you never go in there, how would you know what the venue looks like before and after the refit. you put negative remarks about most pubs in Twic and Hounslow, apart from if Mandy does the karoake [you were slagging of the Larkin before that]. How shallow are you? The Bar looks great andthe best part is the table service!! A bar in hounslow offering table service i cant beleive it!! . i have never felt threaten in here at night and its about time that Hounslow had a decent venue to go to. Now its open until 2am means i dont go the other rubbish venues in hounslow at midnight [but the funny thing is a see the same faces in Shannons, Larkin, The Moon and Wishing well as i do in yates so 'Cheeky', does that mean ALL pubs let in bad customers? i dont think so!! its about time Cheeky, you got a life?] I know several people that have been banned for over a year from yates and still cant get in yet i have seen several people gain access back into other bars regardless how many times they cause fights. i have not seen a fight in yates for months.
The pool tables, sky TV and karaoke are a great addination to the pub.
hez - 22 May 2006 14:27
I don't think late licensing hours or a hefty refurb will do this pub any justice.

Hefty refurb generally means new padding on the seats and one or two new tables.

This pub will always be filled with promiscuous women, criminals who have slipped through the justice system and Eastern Europeans who are itching to put a pint glass in your face.

I wouldn't drink here ever, even if I was assured SEX at the end of the night!
CheekyShepherd - 16 May 2006 10:51
I here on the grapevine that this is going to be the place to party. They are having an extensive refurb and will be opening very soon, with a 2.00am license at weekends.
I have always liked drinking here and the food is very good too.
I cant wait to see what it looks like, and lets face it, it is the only place to drink in Hounslow.
zel1 - 14 May 2006 17:46
As I was passing the other day - I'm sure it had an advertisment stating: "2 for 1 on Valentine's Day dinners"

While I'm sure this is a very generous offer - I can't help but think any guy who takes a lady friend here on Valentine's Day has to have a screw loose!

Let's face it - going to a Yates' on Valentine's night is about as romantic as a weekend getting kicked in the face!
CheekyShepherd - 15 Feb 2006 10:52
I disagree with the last comment made, we go every Friday and Saturday night here and see little to no trouble inside yates for about the 9 months and is the best place hounslow has to offer.
hez - 14 Feb 2006 09:22
Eugh, this place is disgusting. Full of chavs and Eastern Europeans. I went Sept last year and left after a couple of hours due to all the fights. I have never seen so many police cars outside a 'bar' in all my life. The atmosphere absolutely stinks. Never going again!!
XXXXX - 2 Feb 2006 19:00
not a bad place to drink. nice beer garden out the front, probably one of the best in hounslow. it has gotten progressivley better over the past few months. touchups to the paintwork make it brighter, and the new sofas give a more relaxed feel. good food and drink at reasonable prices. i didn't use to like comming here but now i find myself here more and more.
the music during the daytime could possible do with livening up but there are no longer and real reasons why u shouldne drink here. all in all a much better place to drink than previously thought. good job to all who work there in turning it around.
anonymous - 9 Sep 2005 14:04
Great place to eat during the week. food served quickly and to a good standard buy some attractive female staff.
i like not having to wait very long to be served on a friday and saturday nights. A well needed change in music over the last few weeks, it gets a bit boring listening to the same stuff week in week out.

am loving the pool table, great purchase. how about a second one? and maybe sky sports??
bigb - 8 Sep 2005 10:41
Great Food and drinks during the week, deliveried quickly by friendly staff, as i only have an hour for lunch. Music is good on both friday and saturday nights. I wish bans were not for 'life' now as 2 of my friends cant enter now, but i do understand why, so its good to see trouble being reduced week by week. The best Beer Garden in Hounslow but it would be nice to see Sky Sports and open later.
anonymous - 3 Sep 2005 18:23
Nice to have a change of music rather than the same songs in the same order every friday. Great to see 1 of my friends win the holiday, last week. its about time it got a pool table, but shame it doesnt have Sky sports. I disagree with the last commit on here, its good to see the manager driving the trouble makes out, finally.
hez - 1 Sep 2005 18:38
Used to be a good place to drink until paul and dj si left! Now people are being let in that paul wouldnt have dreamed of getting through Andy.
noneyabusiness - 23 Aug 2005 22:31
filled with attitude!! ppl go out to have fun not fight but then it is hounslow so....
TIA_MARIA.1 - 1 Aug 2005 14:31
A typical cliche of a Yates's. Filled mostly with chavs and Eastern Europeans, and all the people who can't be arsed to go into The Bell anymore.

Ladies, don't leave your drinks unattended, they'll be spiked, and if you feel like having a dance, I'd recommend you take your handbags with you. No-one in this pub can be trusted!
CheekyShepherd - 28 Mar 2005 23:46
On Saturday nights they used to arrange buses to take the punters straight to some chavvy Kingston night club. They may still do for all I know. Not one of Hounslows better efforts.
Good for: chaps in baseball caps.
thenationofjames - 23 Sep 2004 15:43
It's a Yates's - 'nuff said
mike2004 - 21 Sep 2004 21:31
Typical Yates chain, as far as it goes around here, is acceptable for an after work drink but little else.
Full of the local people, walking around with their flashy mobile phones, acting as if they were in Wall Street, rather than a crappy Wine Lodge in Hounslow.
