I hadn't been here since the 1995 Rugby World Cup Final but popped in for a late, swift one. Actually not bad and a pint of Jugged Hare, in a handled glass, was excellent. Expensive as you would expect of the location but that's more the fault of George Osborne than the proprietors.

Have not been here in quite some time will not be returning, just been short changed 5 pounds.

Dreadful dreadful dreadful...how to make yourself invisible...be a man over 50, go into this pub and try to get served. The bar staff are more interested in chatting amongst themselves, but when they do deign to serve customers, anyone over 35 is completely ignored. My money is just as good as a younger person's money but apparently this pub doesn't think so. I used to think that this pub was OK but will never bother with it again. If you're a grumpy old git like me, try the Bear and Staff in Charing Cross Road instead!

The pub has very recently re-opened after what looks like a substantial renovation. Have yet to visit to see what changes there have been, and if the cask ale has improved (it's been occasionally good, but not consistently).
This pub appears to have CLOSED

An ok-ish typical pub for the area with a very transient clientele. The restaurant upstairs seemed to be doing a good trade. A pint of Adnam's Gunhill was in decent nick.
As well as the usual prehistoric toilets buried in the bowels of the Earth, there is a neat, newly built toilet block in the far left corner of the pub.

I went to this pub last night with a couple of freinds. Not a particularly warm welcome from the Asian bar staff, probably becuase they had a pretty poor grasp of spoken English. There was no chilled white wine available, but they did offer ice (mmmm lukewarm and watery) Also, no coffee was available as the machine had broken down. The only thing that saved it being a complete diasaster was the Estrella on draught.
Nicely-kept pub with friendly staff. Haven't had a problem getting a seat in the heaving West End.
I called on a week day Afternoon for a quick Pint.
Nothing special here, but I did enjoy my Pint of Thwaites Wainwright.
Toilets are downstairs in the Cellar and seem to have been missed out when decorating for several generations.

This is a tired pub. Ropey beer and bored staff, serving equally boring suited office types. With a bit more TLC this could be a nice pub, but until that happens I won't be returning. A shame, as it is a missed opportunity.

This is a decent little boozer with a restaurant upstairs and very friendly staff. There is a range of premium lagers along with Stella and ale offerings of Thwaites Lancaster Bomber and Wainwright and Adnams Bitter and Broadside. There is also a food menu behind the bar that consists of sandwiches and jacket potatoes.
There was some background music playing during my visit and there is also a TV and small plasma screen which were both off and I spotted no sport advertisements anywhere in the pub.
Id drink here again if it wasnt for the fact that the superior Salisbury is just across the road.

A great meeting place in the heart of the West End. Lively atmosphere, good music and well-kept beer. Staff were attentive and friendly. Surroundings were very traditional which is not unusual in this part of town. I will be returning!

This is a small one-room corner pub in St MartinsLane. Its got a reasonably attractive exterior with some hanging baskets, and windows comprising lots of smallish panes instead of the usual large panes. Inside its a typical West End pub; bare-boarded, mainly high stools tables and ledges by the windows and a couple of normal tables with banquette seating at the back. There are also a few potted plants, that brighten the place up a bit.
There was no sign of the beer being watered down, as alleged by a previous poster. The two real ales on were Adnams Bitter and Broadside. The Bitter was actually in quite good nick, and at a West End price of 3.20 a pint. Theres just one relatively small TV at the back but switched off and some jazz being played, which makes a pleasant change from the usual banal pop music. Its OK as far as it goes for a West End pub, but nothing special. I cant see any particular reason to return unless I fancied a pint as I happened to be passing but then I might summon up the energy to cross the road for The Salisbury, or walk round the corner to The Harp.

Rip off short measures; toilets that you can smell from the bar. Staff and management couuldn't give a fig. I only went in as the Salisbury across the road was full. Never again.
I'm afraid I caught the barman watering down my beer . When I complained to the landlady she threatened to throw me out . A well organised scam seems to be operating in this pub .
Another small pub in the Covent Garden area, similar to the others, actually more than tolerable, busy of course of an evening but surely that is a good thing. A bit more opened out than the one nearby. Had Batemans GHA and Thwaites Lancaster Bomber which you don't get everywhere.
Busy, efficient pub which is just far enough from Leicester Square and Covent Garden to avoid being overrun by the hordes. Usually four real ales on.
Great little place for a cheeky one before the theatre. Good drink selection and quick service at a very busy time.
Another decent little pub if in the area. Not worth making a journey for but a good option compared to some others nearby
Suprised to see comment from Beer Barn. I ate there on Friday night in the restaurant upstairs and was impressed by the welcoming attitude of the staff. Was very busy in there but our food came within 15 mins. Great for a quick meal before the theatre.
Went here to eat but service was awful, absolutely disgraceful. Felt thoroughly insulted and left before we ate. My recommendation: DO NOT EAT HERE
Decent boozer, friendly staff.
Run of the mill West End pub. Ale was adequate although there was nothing that really made this anything more than an average experience.
Not the most interesting of pubs but sometimes this can be of an advantage as it tends to be less busy than some of its illustrious neighbours. There is nothing specifically wrong with the C&A, it is functional, friendly and serves a decent selection of 4 ales Theakstons, Directors, Adnams and on my recent visit Adnams Explorer. They are Cask Marque accredited so the quality is generally good. The pub is fairly small, a single extended room with bare floors and quite a bit of window space and whilst it is all a bit plain with no real character or features, there are efforts to make the place more cosy and inviting: large pot plants at either end of the bar, twinkly lights in the windows etc. The bar area is fairly open with seating around the windows but there is a small more intimate area towards the rear. A pub history on the wall says more about the area than the pub itself. There are 2 basic TVs, a fruit machine and upstairs is a restaurant with a typical tourist menu. Nothing spectacular but OK if you want to have a reasonably peaceful pint.

Visited on a saturday night, busy but not too jammed. Staff were well presented and welcoming. Bar was clean and tidy and had a nice selection on draught. Would definitely go again.
packed on a friday night, which is copeable but not when it is a shit pint. The only redeeming feature is the land lady's procariously balanced puppies.
Better than it has any right to be. Nice pint of Landlord too.
A fairly ordinary and dull corner location Nicholson's pub.
Friendly, clean and good beer - give it a go!
Nice little pub. A very good stopping off point whilst shopping or pub crawling. Good quality john smiths.
It is nice, corner pub near Trafalgar Square.Very friendly regulars and staff. In fact it is very small, but it got it's own charm.Especially charming is Frenchie from the staff.
No character to this small pub im afraid. It is tiny inside and due to its large windows and busy corner spot I always feel that im having a pint in a goldfish bowl.Only use as a last resort.

This pub has changed management recently and has greatly improved. The service is brilliant the standards are excellent and staff are really friendly. There are new chefs and the food is fabulous. A great location and calm chilled out atmostphere. Give it a go and see for yourself you'll be inpressed.

RIP - OFF !!! 2.70 for a pint of bitter and it tasted like bloody water, complained and the bar man just shrugged his shoulders and muttered a few things under his breathe. I am going to report this place to the brewery as it is bloody awful! 0 / 10!!!!!!
