Yr Hen Orsaf is Aberystwyth's Wetherspoons. It is located at the main railway station, with seating on the station itself. The interior was much quieter than I had anticipated. But it still took a while to be served, with people seemingly confused about who was next to be served, plus there was the age-old 'spoons issue of lengthy food and coffee orders. The ale selection was Evan Evans Welsh Pale Ale & Cwrw, Brewsters Hop Quest, Coach House Hoptober, Bluestone Elderflower Blonde, Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharps Doom Bar. Cider was Old Rosie. Customers were mostly students, who were dining. I suppose this is as good a place as any for those on a budget. Toilets were upstairs. The gents was rather large. I've been to better Wetherspoons.

Visited here on a Saturday at lunchtime. it was pretty busy and service took 10min, mainly because one of the staff was patiently dealing with an elderly lady at the bar. Beer & food ok, as usual for Wetherspoons. no problem getting a seat. The place was busy, filled with all sorts of people talking, eating & drinking which was quite nice. Very communal.

Went in for a couple while waiting for a curry from next door. Pleasantly impressed, as Wetherspoons these days are, on the whole, pretty poor. A decent couple of pints, decent price, quick service and somewehere to sit once you can get your head around the strange layout. It's still a Wetherspoons, but you could do worse in Aber.
went in 2 weeks ago reasonable wetherspoons only had one pint handy for railway station has rear public outdoor is part of station building
i worked in this pub for 8 years and never got thanked, the worst pub company in britain!
Your average Wetherspoons really, lots of decent beers at good prices. This one has the advantage of being on the station with a nice outside bit practically on the platform - so you get to watch the train come in every two hours!
Whilst the beer was fine when served, arriving at 1130 I had to wait in an orderly queue for a good 15 minutes whilst one person served coffees and breakfasts. Another bar person was wandering around aimlessly and not serving. I commented to the bar person who said "Its more like Starbucks in the morning", and the chap behind me said it is always like this. i suppose thats the price of paying 1.95 per pint!!!
busiest pub in aberystwyth and the staff do a great job, serving people quick, would like to see any other staff in town serve as fast as them!!
Nice building but terrible service from what I remember. Ordered some food which didn't turn up for over an hour. Went and questioned this with the manager and he simply plonked my money back in my hand without word of an apology. Not one of JD's best...
A very poor example of the chain. 2 little girls with no manners behind the bar. Marstons Old Empire(not exactly made for quaffing!) and poor quality Mordues Radgie Gadgie were the guests. Usual other dross ale offerings available. 300 on a train were in town and despite knowing this no extra staff rostered. Rubbish basically. Don't bother.
this is the only weatherspoons pub ive been in where the customers actually queue up in a line for a drink......good place for a massive farmouse breakfast and cheap beer!
Surprizingly good ale . Horrid clientele and poor service
Ale range poor, and still freezing cold on dispense. Shame as this used to be a good place.
AVOID.
Cheap and in close proximity to the curry house Shilam, cancel chefs leave.
Good selection of real ales and a quiz machine has me hooked everytime.
New pumps and refrigeration fitted; which is fine for the bubble-drinkers, but the Real Ale is now freezing too, which kills the flavour stone dead.
Sort it out or lose the Cask Marque!
When I asked for a pint of MILD I was told no one drinks MILD in Aber. True that not all pubs sell MILD in Aber but just across the road a decent pint of Brains Dark MILD can be had for 1.70 in the "Lord Beeching".
Other than that this poor example of a wetherspoons pub has one plus point it is a convenient toilet.
Not too bad, considering it's a wetherspoons, and I liked the nice touch of being able to drink on the train station platforms. The foods up to the usual JD standards, though.
Despite the aforementioned---- This place is crap
It's becoming a bit of a national pastime to slate 'Spoons. I have two words and six reasons for it's defence in Aber:
The Varsity.
'Spoons:
a) Is WAY WAY cheaper. V Card my *rse b) Has a better range, including guest ales. c) Has a heated outdoor area d) Has toilets that don't smell like an otter's drowned in them. e) Barstaff (and clientele) are far less pretentious f) Has a better quiz machine
So there.

Usual spoons rubbish with the added bonus of a dirty sweaty fat chef!!. If your a Brummie on your summer holiday you will love it. Civilised Welsh folk just walk away....
Exactly what you would expect. The same as all the other spoons. Cheap and cheerful!
Usual english mega pub crap. Most educated locals wont go near the place!. Avoid...

The usual Spoons offering, the bonus being the heated outdoor area which is basically on the station platfrom.
Perfect place to meet up in Aberystwyth. Total student capital! You'll most likely see a group of people in fancy dress, and you can step straight off the train to the bar!!! What more do you need!!! Immense!!
