Characterful old pub, with a friendly welcome. Only three real ales. The Peeky Blinder was very well kept. Beer (especially imported lagers) on the pricey side - but that seems to be the way of Digbeth and Deritend these days. In contrast, the food is excellent vale and served in hearty portions. The bacon, cabbage and colcannon was superb! 9/10.

Use to use it regularly. Not anymore. Better pubs with better service nearby. Can do without the absence of enough staff on mid-week evenings.

In all honesty I would struggle to recommend the Old Crown. I often find it unfriendly even though it regularly attracts a noisy boisterous crowd. The service is rudimentary and the choice of three cask ales uninspiring, Hobgoblin, Pedigree etc. A visit on the hottest night of the year so far made the pub feel humid and sticky with the toilets smelling less than fresh. Although the pub attracts visitors far and wide, often for historical reasons yet I've often questioned whether this is Brum's oldest pub or a pub currently in the oldest building. There is a difference, but I welcome clarification. The interior now has the odd nod to the spirit of the age, floral patterned walls and regulation quirkiness, but generally it's a mish mash. Very popular so obviously has attractions I can't see but I seldom include it in any Digbeth crawl. Just about notches 5/10.

Large and warren-like pub serving a couple of real ales and doing food during the week and Sunday roasts. Very quiet of a Sunday evening so much so that they closed early because there was (almost) nobody in there. Must be nice when it's busier though.

Went because I had read it was Birmingham's oldest building. Got there at 11:54 and waited a few mins for it to open. Not much in the choice of real ale (hobgoblin and marstons) so went for an American IPA called Shipbuilder. It was pretty good. Food was very reasonably priced as well.
I would come back.

I've recently drank in this pub and i must say it was a pleasure. To find some where so quaint near the middle of town is a true gem. The bar staff were pleasent and the food was lovely. thanks for a good time, i'll be back!

Oh! my Lord.
The Banks's MILD was pretty poor and the place full of ladies exhuding a narcissim far more potent than the beer.
The oldest building in Birmingham of course actually means a few roof beams from the old school, if indeed, anything. It is twee and souless, as they have surgically removed any historic charm
I am sure more will be attracted to the plastic tot, than be upset by the loss of historic charm

I visited the old crown for the first time in almost 2 years this previous saturday. The pub was very busy. I was quite impressed with the range of clientele. Mixture of locals, young indy crowd and the occasional friendly chav. Service was good on my visit unlike review below from dirty panda. Though could easily be different on next viist.

Upon entering this establishment was taken aback by the work carried out to 'hide' the oldest building in Birmingham. After this shock, I met the rudest bar staff ever. My girlfriend stood at the bar, clearly visible to the immature barman then proceeded to serve four punters who entered AFTER We did. When I made a point of letting Him know, did He care, did He arse. My advice, this pubs only redeemiong feature is the outside, carry on past and hit the Rainbow, better beer and friendly staff.
