This is a gem of a pub in the backstreets of Peterborough. The interior is classic and the landlord is knowledgeable about his stock and keen to welcome people. The ale range is unusual - Abbeydale Kid Ryneamite, Brewster's Grantham Gingerbread Brew & Marquis, Purple Cow Holy Cow & Westgate Sunburst. There was also a pumpclip for Three Brothers Maple Syrup & Bacon Blonde. That was one of two pumpclips on the same handpull. So it was possibly on in a different room, or from the cellar. There was unfortunately no real cider, which meant it was only my second favourite pub of the day. I did however enjoy my Holy Cow, which washed down a nice homemade Scotch Egg. Parking is difficult, if you drive here. But it's best to find another way here anyway, as like me you'll be wanting more.

In here early last Saturday afternoon and only one other customer present. There are two rooms but only one bar with a hatch for orders. Very basic but a nice real fire going on what was quite a chilly day. Piped music was playing. The TV was switch off. They also have a dart board. 5 Hand pulls so I had a pint of Hobgoblin for £3.20. By the time I had finished that the other customer had left so I took pity on the friendly Landlady and had another pint. This time I went for a pint of a beer I haven’t seen available lately called The Dogs Bollocks which cost £3.40

Lovely pub for the ticker or architecture enthusiast . It is a national inventory CAMRA pub but the beer is quite pricey. Recently, even at their beerfest it's been very quiet and I visited in a Saturday evening. Shame. Will this be another hidden gem lost to redevelopement?

A great old style pub with a good selection of fine well kept real Ales.

Best boozer north of the river in Peterborough. Good selection of beers in a style of pub that is, sadly, all too rare in this range of plastic eating houses.

Excellent old-fashioned community pub of the type that all but disappeared in the latter part of the 20th century. Always has an excellent range of beers thanks to Bram's commitment, and the occasional festivals are probably the best-balanced and most interesting smaller festivals in this region. Deserves success and repays the walk up Lincoln Road from the city centre.

Bram keeps a cracking Pub, beer is top quality and welcome is warm. A little off the beaten track but well worth a visit. a Hidden Gem

Super little pub. Excellent real ales now looked after by Peterborough Beer Festival cellarman. Pub has just received a Gold Award for beer quality and has now become Cambridgeshire pub of the year. Bus number Citi 1 from bus station.

Enjoyed a couple of well kept ales in this friendly community pub a short walk or bus ride out of yhe centre. A couple of rooms and tiled corridor with serving hatch. Adnams and Elland beers plus one from Tydd Steam yesterday.

I popped in hear one Saturday recently on hearing that new management have taken it over and I can say I was very impressed with the improvement. The Real Ales, my favourite tipple, were all in excellent condition. Keep up the good work. Is also a very historical pub too with 2 rooms and a drinking corridor, quite rare for the south!

Late review from October when we stayed a couple of nights at Ferry Meadows so we could visit the real ale pubs and what a find this one was. Lovely atmosphere and interesting decor. Ehjoyed our Pot Belly and Jennings ales here.

Ah ! The Hand and Heart. Back street gem, 1930's classic boozer - roll out the platitudes and they're all justified.
Always a cracking pint, a friendly welcome, and someone to strike up conversation with.
Unique in Peterborough, and there can't be many like this left - the Hand is on CAMRA's national inventory.

Read the comments here. A lovely back street pub with truly friendly welcome from everyone. Great beer, a lovely snug bar, tidy, clean and authentic. Been coming on and off for 20 years and it hasn't really changed. Well worth a detour.

I visit this pub Tuesday to play dominos, Wednesday to play crib and Friday for a drink with friends. It is one of if not the friendliest pub in Peterborough.
Eamon keeps the best pint of Guiness that you could wish for.
His pumps and lines are imaculate.
All his real ale is tip top, due to him and the very deep celar. No chillers required here.
Worth a visit from anyone visitng Peterborough.

Unspoilt and friendly. Excellent beer.

This is an excellent pub, on the Camra National Inventory. 4 well-kept real ales on handpump; I enjoyed Elgood's BLACK DOG which was especially good.
Lino flooring and formica tables with recesses to place drinks when playing games, etc.
Live accoustic music on Saturday nights, staff and management very friendly. A little gem. Go and see for yourselves!

Suburb back street local (interior is listed), very friendly. Hardly changed since the 50's. Good selection of well kept ales. Has been my local since moving to Peterborough in 1973.

Have recently been informed that they are holding another beer festival with a Celtic theme, hopefully in September.

Classic unspoilt back-street boozer, with interior furnishings unchanged since 1930's. Two rooms, plus extensive garden. upto 5 real ales, plus the usual lagers etc and the best pint of Guinness outside Dublin! Friendly & welcoming, this community pub has raised thousands s for local charities. Known to regulars as the "Pisstakers Arms", you will feel at home on your first visit.
