please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Certainly changed! Now called THE JUNCTION!!

This is a Spirit Pub Company pub, something to do with Taylor Walker, but happy to be informed more about them.

The Junction has been turned into one room, and knocking through certainly has improved on the front bar which was always a bit dodgy and not that friendly to enter, particularly for women. Consequently, unsurprised that quite a few groups of women, or women in groups with men, or just couples there last night.

6 real ales on offer, 4 of the same old same old, which you are likely to see regularly here, and in all their pubs, I'd imagine: ie London Pride, Ghost Ship, Cumberland Ale and Tribute.

2 guest ales that were more interesting though, Goddards 'Wight Squirrel', not bad, but an impressive 6% IPA from London Fields Brewery called 'Shoreditch Triangle', very good indeed!

Not sure the bar staff know much about the ales, which should be looked at, but whoever looks after the cellar looks to be doing their job, so I shall return!

Name changed to The Junction.

Traditional pub which looks at bit dated but did not have a bad vibe when I visited. Serves regular pub grub at reasonable prices. If im in the area again I would pop in for a pint or two

you say you do not take comments seriously, so why do you suggest to comment then?????? if you cannot run a pub so go and sell icecreams on a van

manager and assistant manager with wrong attitudes, not friendly and when serving make you feel very uncomfortable with agressive looks and make it seems that they are doing you a favor, also i was a regular karaoke visitor every friday , and all i could see that without the karaoke the place would have been empty, on that night,i have pictures to prove it, all of sudden, two weeks ago, i hear the karaoke i used to enjoy, with really good sound and professionalisme, with a great DJ, JULIE,,,,,, therefore i do not understand this move from management,,, i beleive wrong,,,, if karaoke is filling the room why cancel it? there are many singers there every weeek that come regurarly, and make it worthwile,,,,,,, so i would ask to management to re consider and re start friday karaoke nights to please the regular clientele , thank you

really enjoy watching football in this pub, staff are friendly as are the regulars, provides welcome sanctuary from the 'uber' clapham crowd. long may it continue although I do worry that because of its location it will be swallowed up by a pub chain or turned into some swish wine bar.

Been using this pub on and off since 1975 and it has always smelled of armpits. Okay for watching sport and decent Vietnamese cafe opposite.
Karmelite - 23 Feb 2011 15:21
Not sure how long this shall last with the re-vamp of Clapham station, even so this two room pub is good.
Passing_By - 11 Jul 2010 18:42
proper, honest boozer, great for the footy and unpretentious meet-ups. fosters is only two fiddy a pint. a refuge free of braying yahs and posers. well done WC.

Had a pint of London Pride in the front bar which I thought was a bit pricey at 3-13. Still, at least the strange carpet smell has gone now. The front bar is now dominated by enormous round tables which are perfect if there are 5 or 6 of you in a group but not so great if there are just two of you as there are now much fewer tables at which to sit. Still, the food remains very good value.

This is what I'd call a 'proper pub'. It's not absolutely tiptop fantastic but at least the atmosphere is not contrived. There's only one other pub in the area I can think of and that's worth drinking in and that's The Falcon down the hill. Man, Clapham Junction is so full of pretentious Putney-pram-pushing gastro-pubs. At least you can get a pint of ale here. Also it has a local feel to it which adds a certain warmth.

I met a friend here for a post-work Friday drink, just because it's close to the station, but ended up staying till closing time.

I liked it here quite a lot. The decor is decicedly ropy, very unconvincingly mock tudor and the carpet near the bar smells a bit funny, but the beer & lager were very good and fresh-tasting and the clientele a good bunch, a proper mix of different types which is all too rare in the area.

There seemed to be a bit of a karaoke session going on, with, in addition to the usual drunken jokers, a handful of what seemed to be dedicated karaoke hustlers, which was a bit intimidating, but good fun none the less..

Don't even think about it!
The_Prof - 23 Nov 2009 12:01
Half-decent high street pub with wide-screen TVs, eclectic clientele and sticky carpets. 2 ales on; I had the Youngs Bitter which cost, bizarrely, 3.84 and was well kept. The bar staff was indifferent and surly, but otherwise nothing was out of place. I might go back if waiting for a train again.

I popped in here as it seems like the closest pub to where I live that possesses sky, and I wanted to catch some footy midweek. Ale was off due to 'a technical fault' so I plumped for pints of Kronenburg. It was busy with a mixed crowd of moody youngsters and older gentlemen. Put it this way - as soon as the football finished, I was out the door and straight down the road to the far more enjoyable (but telly-less) Falcon.

The real ales on were Pride and Bombardier. It had the Spirit Group look about it, but Im not certain it was this pubco. It retains its original structure of two bars, with the ex-public bar at the front, with the saloon bar at the rear. The saloon bar has two distinct parts to it the front is a traditional bar, but at the back is what can best be described as a mock Tudor hall, with a high ceiling, false beams and brick surrounded fireplace. But its attractive enough for all that. The walls are all wood panelled, some possibly original.

The Pride I had was OK, the service was friendly enough and the pop music was not being played too loudly. Its not a bad pub; its just that there isnt anything about which makes it stand out. Good enough for a pint if youre passing, but with the Falcon just down the road there is at least one better pub in the area. I wouldnt go out of my way to visit again.
RexRattus - 20 Mar 2009 18:26
A rather strange smell permeates the main bar. My visit involved average but not unpleasant pint of Bombardier over the football. Several patrons had clearly been in place for several hours, the most entertaining of whom, "Nobby", passed the time by either emotionally hugging or aiming kicks at his friends. Wouldn't stay there all night, worth popping in if waiting for a train.
stevosgloriosus - 22 Feb 2009 21:15
Out of the three ales only Bombardier was on during my visit. There is also a selection of standard lagers, but I opted for a coke as the smell of Christ knows what food had turned me off the beer.

The pub has a separate public bar at the front which I found thoroughly depressing and another bar behind with a plasma screen which shows Sky and Setanta.

As mentioned by the well-versed RogerB the back room is worth a butchers, but now that I have seen it there is no reason for me to drink here again.
Strongers - 10 Feb 2009 07:07
Popped in here whilst waiting for a change of trains and wish I hadn't bothered. Warm, flat Bombardier in a warm glass. Not nice at all. I was impressed by the interior though.
GazzaTheBeerMan - 27 Oct 2008 10:49
Went in here last night... A nice quiet 'normal' pub. Its refreshing in an area which is saturated with gastropubs and trendy bars. Also nice to be able to get served whenever you want! Although... sort out the fire escape scraping on the concrete floor!
Mattaius3344 - 24 Sep 2008 16:10
Almost tearfully horrific, unless you sit in the garden. In which case, just about bearable. Some fit cadet boys sometimes appear here. Phwoar!

The mock Tudor fronted Windsor Castle is just a few sleepers along from the Clapham Junction station exit and holds a few memories for me as I used it fairly regularly 14/15 years ago when the Grand Theatre opposite was more of a regular music venue. I made a point of stopping by recently on hearing that it was to be demolished to see if it was how I remembered and to my recollection, it has hardly changed a jot. The interior is divided into 2 separate bars, a small, paneled public bar with dartboard at the front and a larger extended rear bar with an eyecatching vaulted roof. As previous postings have suggested, there is nothing particularly special about the food and drink, Pride & Bombardier Ales among the usual kegs and lagers, typical unadventurous food menu but prices are reasonable with bargain doubles available on various meals and spirits. The rear bar was far more active than the front with a generally amiable atmosphere although some of the customer base appeared a bit on the wobbly side and yet still managed to get served. Only 1 person behind bar despite being busy which meant a wait that bordered on a walk out but I held on simply because I wanted to have a final pint here before the demolition ball arrives. Other than on the personal nostalgia front, I didnt really find anything particularly special here although its eventual loss will mean another part of my personal heritage is wiped forever.
RogerB - 13 Jun 2008 15:56
Grand old pud with dark wood and patterned carpets. A good pint of london Pride but lacks something, well, customers, and atmosphere (sorry).
Jeremyo - 4 Feb 2008 18:19
Ban news. This pub is due to be demolished next year to make way for the restructuring of clapham junction.
afcgazzard - 19 Jan 2008 09:46
have installed heated 'smoking gazebo' in the garden and new seating/tables.

The Windsor is on the up and a few new punters are visiting.
evers. - 4 Sep 2007 21:44
Visited last night after it closed for a re-dec and the Windsor looks great but still has the 'pub' feel to it that all the places in the junction has lost! New menu still really good value. Where have all these good old pubs gone? Nice cold fresh beer, nice cheap food, nice atmosphere, winner!
anonymous - 24 Aug 2007 16:34
Alright for a drink near the station, not sure when the Kareoke is!

aleman - 12 Aug 2007 01:40
FRIDAY NIGHTS ARE KARAOKE NIGHTS WITH "JIVIN JULIE" AND ARE VERY BUSY. LOTS OF GOOD SINGERS ALL SOUNDING GOOD(well some of them!)JULIE IS REALLY GOOD AND MAKES EVERYONE VERY WELCOME. DONT LIKE KARAOKE? VISIT THIS ONE AND YOU WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND!
anonymous - 26 Jul 2007 17:22
Nice pub for a few beers and there's a small outside area at the back too for those rare evenings when it doesn't chuck it down with rain. Few kids in early evening, but mostly seemed well behaved. Bombadier not bad. Could do with a lick of paint or a good scrub now that the smoking ban is in.
Oolybel - 3 Jul 2007 08:47
this is great as a no-nonsense boozer. fine for a few lazy ales in a totally unreconstructed way, or to watch the footy.

evers. - 10 Mar 2007 23:30
This actually appears more like two pubs. Because you can't get to the other side of the bar through the same entrance. I expect this may incease customers levels. Beer is decent with the likes of Bombardier which was pretty good. One of the few pubs in Clapham where there isnt very LOUD noise playing
aleman - 10 Feb 2007 01:04
i like this pub as it's a traditional, laid back and you don't get any aggro, nice beer sometimes you get overlooked by bar staff when you're in the side bar and have to hop about waving your note in the air! full of genuine people not the plastics from the souless holes right on the doorstep. i've not seen any punch ups or any sort of trouble maybe the 'animal' idabiz saw was me waving said note!.... don't dismiss this place,i'd take it over the falcon anyday.
scotney - 5 Dec 2006 23:28
Well, idabiz seems like a nice polite person. For the record i'm not 'scum', have never caused a fight and certainly dont abuse bar staff. I cant remember the last time i acted like an animal either. Neither do i abuse people i dont know on the internet. Since when has 'having an opinion' been a crime? have a nice day.
afcgazzard - 4 Dec 2006 15:58
This pub is awful. The guy who wants Jim to come back 'cos all the scum have been barred is just one of the scum who like to cause fights, abuse the bar staff and generally act like animals. AVOID THIS PUB AT ALL COSTS
idabiz - 2 Dec 2006 16:11
Seemed ok to me, everywhere else around there seems to be a vertical drinking bar or a dive and this is neither. Front bar operates as a valve, much as in the Pavilion, Shepherds Bush, and the serious socialising goes on in the main back bar.
beeronaut - 27 Nov 2006 20:53
great boozer this ,cheap grub cheap beer, quiz machine all the footy what else could ya want whenever in area pop in for few beers and lunch
chrissyboy - 14 May 2006 14:57
New management who do a great line in barring people.
" Oh Jim, where for art thou? Come back and get this place back to its decent self again."
afcgazzard - 28 Mar 2006 12:06
Kind of agree that it did seem a little bit like an old man's pub. Even so it seemed like a decent place, friendly enough and they even play robbie williams tunes
aleman - 27 Feb 2006 17:37
Definately an old mans pub. But not too bad considering the local choices. The front bar is often empty and a good place to meet people arriving from Clapham Junction station. Has a dart board too.
nogginthenog - 9 Dec 2005 16:50
this is an old time boozer - the locals will look scary to the middle classes but don't be, they're really very decent folk.
evers - 29 Aug 2005 15:25
I've only come in here when waiting for people to turn up at the station who are late, and from what I've seen it's average at best. The Bombardier was nothing special and pretty bland, The service is also pretty slow.
Better than the overcrowded Falcon though.
anonymous - 13 Aug 2005 15:12
Pretty cheap and is good for the footie, if you don't like sport you will hate it, I think the place is not bad at all.
ian21260957148 - 17 Jun 2005 21:18
I'm sorry guys, I hate this pub. Been there twice and was faced by Pikies from Hell and Drunk Fottie Fans. The staff seemed over run by the amount of punters and Sport on the Big Screen was all I could hear.
AVOID.
TheWizard - 11 May 2005 02:35
Cracking night on friday - landlord/staff/locals all really friendly. Thanks to all who were there.

Beats all the ponsey Clapham bars hands down. Only drawback was the lack of Blue Curacao, hopefully this will be changed for our next visit there.
anonymous - 6 Dec 2004 12:42
my work local. they've just put the prices down to compete with yates's and the falcon. power to the beer drinker!
gary - 25 Sep 2004 09:59
Nice pub, pretty friendly, some good beer, great crowd on football nights, reasonable mix on the juke box, not for the desperately trendy (one of its great attractions in what is becoming a really posy area.
Bernard - 24 Feb 2004 12:20
I often meet with friends to watch football, rugby or just have a drink. It is a basic pub with not many mod cons but they do sell beer (handpump). It does get very busy some nights when fotball matches are on as it has a huge screen in the back bar. The front bar does not have any TV's and is quite small.

I like the pub very much.
Charles - [email protected] - 30 Sep 2003 16:58
Pretty functional boozer - nothing special but useful if you're waiting to meet people from Clapham Junction station.
Darryl - 11 Aug 2003 12:51
I go in on Sunday nights, if I have been in town, the junction being a good place to change from train to bus, I always have to wait to be served as it is a regulars pub, I understand that as I have worked behind a bar or two for 30 years, but, tonight 2/3/3 I was astounded by the attitude of the barmaid, on arriving I could see 2 people waiting so OK, I thought, whilst she was serving the second another regular finished his drink and waved the empty glass, the girl served him, then two more people walked in, she turned to me and said "just give me a few minutes more" "What?" I walked out, and I will never go there again.
Steveproj - 2 Mar 2003 23:43
Comfortable saloon bar with reasonable juke box and you can usually get a seat.
