Cramond Inn, Cramondback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
We recently visited the Crammond had a lovely Pork Roast Dinner that could not be faulted. The staff were very friendly and courteous. The pub has plenty of character whcih we like in a Sam Smiths pub. We do not have problem with everything being Sam Smiths own brands. Will definately be travelling up there again. Keep up the good work aly and Paul

chris2, I am very discerning, indeed most of my tastes are alternative, I am known for this. Not least, my taste in drink is alternative... Brew Dog is one of my favourite breweries. I don't like bog standard pubs, in fact, I prefer real ale pubs and alternative pubs. The problem is that The Cramond Inn offers NOTHING but Samuel Smith's beer, NOTHING but the unknown (and IMHO frankly disgusting tasting) Walker and Scott's Spirits, NOTHING but Scintilla minerals and NOTHING but there own, equally unknown brand of crisps and worst of all, they have now even removed most of the home made food in favour of frozen food.
When people go out for a meal they do not expect something that they could have microwaved themselves at home!
I prefer alternative brands but I do not like them rammed down my throat to the exclusion of all else, especially when the quality isn't that great and I have tried three W&S spirits and felt like I was drinking after-shave.
It is not fair to remove choice from the customers to this degree and it is time somebody said something about it!
From what I've heard the boss at Samuel Smith's was even given a petition full of signatures from customers (regular and otherwise) and, from what I heard, said, "If you don't like it go somewhere else!" A lot of the local customers are elderly and disabled and now would love to go elsewhere if they could!
Nice to know he cares so much about customer opinion!!! .

Sam Smiths the only brands in the pub. Several people walked out when they were told this!

I visited this pub in August 2008 and the service, food and drink was fabulous. We could ask for variations on the menu and this was ok, no fuss made at all. I'd suggest you go and give it a try and not take any notice of the twaddle on these sites.

I think this pub has really gone downhill. I took the family there for Sunday lunch today, including our two young boys. The menu had four dishes which it said could be provided as half portions for kids. It turned out two of the dishes were not availble, and the boys didn't much fancy the other two. We asked if we could have another of the adult meals in half portion but were flatly told, if it's not on the menu, we won't serve it that way - even though there was next to nothing they could give us for the kids. They were totally unapologetic. Some friends had told me they had gone off the place because of poor service. I can see why. We won't be going back.

The Cramond Inn is a superb little pub, cheap beer and excellent food for a pub.Its only downfall is it gets so busy for food that you cant get a table.
|
This used to be a good pub, that had locals and tourists frequenting it. It now only serves Sam Smiths beers, plus their own brands of spirits and soft drinks. The people on the next table were complaining about the quality of the food. After a pint of the bitter, we left. The one good point is, that in common with all pubs in Scotland, it it now mercifully "SMOKE Free".

Gary, if you want bog standard drinks go to a bog standard pub. It is really pathetic when people say that because none of the products are well known brands they aren't good - the consumer should be the judge of whether a product is good; you are a real sucker to the marketing men if you think that only well known brands which are heavily advertised can be good. All Sam Smiths pubs serve quality drinks and at decent prices and you have to be discerning as to what is a good drink.
The Crammond Inn is a great little pub which serves quality drinks and food at reasonable prices and it's in a great situation looking out onto the Firth of Forth

Doesn't open til 1200 on a Sunday, queues outside and then a mad rush for tables and ordering. Sam Smiths is good ale but could not believe the lack of any decent whisky or other spiritse for afterwards, very strange. Could be so much better.

The food used to be good. They've put the prices up 20% and the quality has deteriorated 20% - that's definately NOT good value for money. I agree with other comments re whisky and beer too.

well done Gary. Most of the locals have left this, what was ,a wonderful pub. They only have one WHISKY that no one has heard of. It is just not right that they should be allowed to do this in Scotland. If it were not for the passing trade, who visit the village of Cramond, this pub would be empty. Please someone give us back our wonderful local. Please can beerintheevening.com visit soon.

This used to be a good pub. Now? NO proprietry brand spirits. (All Walker and Scotts, heard of them? Neither have I and you DON'T want too >.o ) No proprietry brand minerals, (all Scintilla, again, "who?") No other beer than Samuel Smiths, good stuff but this is Edinburgh and you can't get any Scottish beers or even a Drambiue.
