Great pub. The most amazing goth metal thrash hardcore juke box. And smashing beer. Service great too. 9/10

Obvious "younger person's" pub but welcoming nonetheless and clearly popular. A range of Scottish ales and my pint of Brewdog Trashy Blonde was fine and tasted identical to that I drank in London 3 days earlier, which is a rare experience. Posters for events in the City can be found on the walls, from which I discovered, and later visited, an exhibition at the National Gallery. An enjoyable visit and I will return at a later date.

I love this place. Very "studenty" feel, even for mature students like my good self. :) They have lots of Brew Dog and Wychwood beers like Hobgoblin, kept in very good condition. One of the best JukeBoxes in Edinburgh and very alternative friendly.
What's the matter larger boy... scared you might TASTE something? :P

Visited after seeing a Fringe theatre production nearby. It was afternoon and the pub was virtually empty. Perhaps fortunate for me, because it looks as though the pub caters for a clientele of a different age and musical taste than me.
What it obviously also caters for is a clientele with the same taste in beer as I have, because the Brewdog ale on offer was excellent. Wychwood Hobgoblin was also available, but I only had time for one.

Single room pub with horseshoe bar. Three handpumps dispensing Deuchars, Hobgoblin and Fyne Ales Avalanche. I had several pints of the Avalanche which was an excellent hoppy ale. All ales are 3.10. I had a burger and chips here which was enormous and very good (6.95). The pub has an 'alternative' jukebox which was playing an atrocious racket when I arrived. I was somewhat taken aback, therefore, when after five or six tracks of turgid nonsense I heard the opening strains of Fad Gadget's 'Back To Nature'. Investigation of the jukebox revealed, amongst the thrash metal or whatever you call it, albums by Fad, Joy Division, Magazine and the Dead Kennedies. Good beer, good food and some good stuff on the jukebox. What more do you need from a pub?

Popped in on a Saturday night. Very much a studenty style pub with loud music. Despite the student image there was a fairly mixed clientele and everyone seemed to be welcome. There was a range of ale and the Hobgoblin was in good form.

Started our visit to Edinburgh to do the GBG pubs here. Three ales available, and we chose the Hobgoblin and Orkney Northern Light both of which were excellent. The other beer available was Caley Deuchers.
|
Deserves it's GBG listing for the beers alone, four handpumps with one cider, one guest and Deuchars (of course) and Hobgoblin as regulars. The darkness of the latter possibly reflects the pubs target market. It's very much a down to earth music pub aimed at students. I could have done without the loud rock music playing on a quiet afternoon but service was good and friendly. I'd go back again if I was in the area but probably wouldn't make a special trip.

The Hoose is a great pub, with proper pub food in decent sized portions. They've normally got a good guest ale and they've always got Hobgoblin on tap. Juke box is fantastic and the staff are pretty good too.

Didn't see any Goths -maybe all the students trying to win the pub quiz put them off. Good beer, nice pub. Must try the food some time. The barman was a bit scary. Will def go back.
