user reviews of the Dolphin, Littlehampton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Grim, miserable, overpriced and decades out of date. Greeted by miserable bar staff and then greeted by an even worse price for a poor pint!!. Very dirty surroundings, clearly survives due to high pricing as certainly not by volumes sold as quiet compared to other pubs. Wont be going back and will be amazed if it survives!, this is one poor pub too many.

Visited this pub again recently. Its undergone a tasteful refit. Just the place for a lunch time meal, with food freshly cooked and a well stocked bar. A perfect place for a hassle free night out.

Very nice pub, unique to the town in all it's Elvis & other displays dotted round the pub.
Welcoming staff, very nice.

This is a very well run pub, one of the very few civilised place in Littlehampton where all the male and female staff treat the customers with respect and kindness. It is professionally run to very high standards. Very good food, kind and helpful bar staff, excellent beer, very reasonable prices. The pub has great character, and a lovely friendly atmosphere. Ellie and Katie are a lovely couple, and it is very sad that certain homophobic plonkers have been deliberately trying to tarnish it's reputation by telling absolute total porkies about this place! Personally, I would like to see them prosecuted under the Public Order Act, Sect 4.5.

The Dolphin is, without doubt, the best traditional English pub in the entire town and for miles around. Go there, taste the excellent beer, enjoy the lovely food, soak up the atmosphere and see for yourself! This pub is an traditional English Gem!

I've just come across this site by accident so thought I'd have a look, I moved to Littlehampton last year so I thought I'd have a look at what's been written about the pubs that have closed down as well as the few that have remained open. What I didn't expect to see was an all out personal attack on a person in a pub . It would have been bad enough to be pub itself but come on ,as the review policy (some people should read it), honest feedback, come on folks, get a grip ,get a life.
I found The Dolphin just a few months ago needed a quiet place to have lunch and a drink with the missus, we had an excellently cooked and presented meal ,with great service and at a great price too. The pub is very different and full of character ,we both felt very much at home. Since then have made several return visits and have never been less than excellently pleased with the service in general. I have found the staff to be very accomodating ,for instance when several friends of ours came to visit and we went for Sunday lunch it was no problem for the staff to put two tables together for us all. It's little things like that that make all the difference as far as I'm concerned.
So as a new comer to the area and the pub I would like to clearly and fairly add, the food is excellent, well cooked and presented and very fairly priced.
The drinks choice is varied and for a brewery tied pub not a bad price either.
The staff are well trained and very customer friendly. The pub itself is clean, bubbling over with character and is very well run. In fact a pub very well worth a visit , see it for yourself and you will know what I mean. I'lI give this pub a 10* star rating

Have just read a couple of reviews of this pub and am horrified that certain individuals can be so malicious. These comments are clearly from someone that obviously could not get their own way or is trying to cause trouble for decent hard working folk and have a grudge/vendetta against these girls. You obviously are in a different world to the rest of the NORMAL world. This pub is fantastic so please try it you will not be disappointed so don t listen to these individuals who clearly don t know a good pub when they see one.

This pub is by far one of the best pubs in littlehampton. It is well run by the two landladies who have made this old traditional family pub one of the friendliest and safest pubs in town. Remembering what this pub used to be is a far distant memory the girls have brought back the traditions of what a pub is about and will definitely have my custom and recommendation for a very long time you will not be disapointed its full of old fashioned real memorabillia of 1940s, Elvis, Titanic, Jack the Ripper and lots more. If you want fantastic real ale that is looked after traditional home cooked food and a friendly fantastic atmosphere this is the pub for you. Well done.

A real pub with real people. Well run with real ales and home cooked food. Nice to find a place in La that still is a real family pub.

The landlay was rude thought she was the owner of the town i ve heard that their ghost hunts are fake like most haunted. The locals were nice but i ve heard that the landlady would bar you if you went to another pub

Went back to the pub last Saturday night for their Ghost Hunt...BRILLIANT NIGHT.. really genuine scary !!. Great as well because in the middle of the night we had homemade cakes and hot chocolate.I'm booked in for the next one March 1st!!. Pub has great Xmas atmosphere (very victorian) and as for the log fires, real ones !! well brilliant..I'm well made up there sitting by one of the fires great homemade meal and drink in hand a bit like being at home really. Definitly worth giving this place a try if you haven't been in before.

Great pub with great staff, a safe family pub with loads of genuine character. I've been in for their live music and it's very varied have to say I was impressed. I've booked in to their LIVE GHOST HUNT this saturday haven't got the faintest idea what it's about but everyone sys how haunted it is . If you want a good drink with good food in a great pub then this is where to go .

Was out of my area today Xmas shopping and needed refreshments!!!! went into The Dolphin and you could have knocked me down with a feather.... it was brilliant, a genuine olde worlde pub, they even had a piano player and 2 real log fires. We stopped for lunch brilliant homemade food and a good price too. I was so pleased I asked for the manager and got the owner (who is also the cook), having said my thanks and praising the pub I was invited to look around it's really old (it's got a real hotel bit too). Ellie and Katie the owners have done a great job, brilliant pub, brilliant food, great atmosphere. We'll definitly be going back before Xmas

wow what a pub, its like stepping back in time when the pubs were safe and clean and the customer was important. they have a vast collection of ww2 memoribilia, including an old gramaphone playing all the old favourites, and even a piano which is played every tues and thurs lunchtime.Oldies like me can even get an oap special meal( over 55). toilets were very clean and the friendly staff were a joy. highly recommended.

Great staff, safe surroundings, clean glasses, worth a visit

One of the better pubs in LA and particularly good food. Diverse clientele (very gay friendly) and very much an adult pub. Good cheap pool table and the TV only comes out on special occasions so people tend to talk to each other more, although this is by no means obligatory. Friendly staff (no chatting them up guys, they really AREN'T your type!)and quick service. The regular live music is often a little too "camp" for our liking and the background music leaves a lot to be desired with a dodgy jukebox and 50's stuff on most of the time. Well worth a visit and one of the safest pubs in town.
