Since it changed to a "Sizzling" pub one of the worst things is how smoky it is from the sizzling plates, and how smelly. You go home stinking of fried onions. The food is cheap pub grub, nothing fancy. My steak was so tough I could barely chew. It's all very basic, but then the prices aren't high. It's very much a local pub, although it's less pleasant to go in just for a drink as the air is thick with sizzle. One huge plus point is that the staff have always been friendly on every occasion we've been in.

First time here since it changed - now owned by 'Sizzling Pubs Co' according to a plaque on the wall. The atmosphere is different from my last visit when it was a friendly family pub. Now it seems harsher, more regimented and the food wasn't a patch on the old place. Didn't like my sizzler which was a 'special' from the board - a chicken kebab. It was stuck to the hotplate and had a thick paste of uncooked spices dropped on top (supposed to be peri peri sauce apparently). The rice didn't taste of anything and the two wraps were pappy and a strange texture. My friend had fish and chips - fish ok, chips few and soggy. Not the best meal, doubt we'd go back. The Harveys was still good though.

We had a table for three today and ordered three different meals, gammon steak, 8oz steak and sticky ribs, each one was cooked to perfection, the steaks were very tender and tasty, all the staff were very friendly and polite. The sizzling plates were a bit of a surprise but they certainly kept the food hot. All in all in was a very worthwhile experience and will definitely eat there again. Thank you.

Ate here last week. Difficult to get the attention of the bar staff to order my food, had to call out to them.
I had a steak, and asked for mushrooms as a side, but no mushrooms on menu.
Steak arrived, sizzling. However, this soon became smoke, which stung my eyes and make be cough. My steak was difficult to cut on the hot plate, tried moving it to where my fries were, but the crescent shaped plate as too small. Not very practical.
The steak was tough, but cooked how I asked.
I did try to give the waitress feedback, which I think is always helpfu, but she said it's just how things are. She did agree that a different plate would be better to eat from.
I understand it's not always up to the staff how things are done, so hoping the chain that run this pub take note of the comments on the property.
Shame really, it's my local, and it's not worth visiting again.

This used to be a good eatery but now they have changed it and both food and service are awful. At a recent birthday treat, 7 meals ordered, 4 served and then 3 more 20 mins later. The steaks were tough and very over cooked even one of the burgers was cremated!!! When will they learn - if it aint broke, don't mend it! Never again will I eat or drink here!

Really bad, slow service ,over cooked steak tough as old boots avoid this place like the plague. How difficult is it to cook a steak the way you want it. Left the lot soggy chips included. No offer of a refund, a free desert bah!!

very noisy pub at weekends. has a bit of atmosphere in there sometimes and can get a bit rowdy.

good friendly pub with great food at great prices

A mix of holiday people and locals - very busy when we were in there at lunchtime. The food is cheap and very good pub grub, the service rapid and polite and of the 4 cask beers on offer we had the Harveys Best which was excellent.

Chavtastic.
Bloody awful pub.
I expect to be dragged here again on Friday night, oh joy of joys.

Present atmosphere and good simple food. Best, weekday lunchtime and early evening.

Excellent food (especially the Caeser salad) and decent facilities. No Sky television is unforgivable in a sporty sort of a pub though, and unfortunately the place is over-run by aggressive little chavs at weekends.
No go on Friday or Saturday nights unless you want your head caved in. Nip in their at lunchtime though.

This is how a managed pub should be run. The Landlady really rules here, everthing is ship shape and spotlessly clean, service is brisk and friendly and as near 'Local' atmosphere as is possible from a chain pub. Nice friendly local Sussex people and the beer is well kept The food is well prepared too. This couple should own their own pub!!
