i like the pub (most of the time ) but now the pool table taken out , its boring .i work all day and week . i come to this pub to relax and play pool . but through confrontations between ppl ,the proprietor decided to take the pool table out ? saying it was the cause of the trouble ????? how can that be when confrontation still happens ? the only arguments the pool table had ... was whos pound coin was next in line haha . under the grape vine i heard the proprietor got rid of the pool table to save his job ? (he still got sacked].. I CAN confirm the pool table was more ore of a neutralizer then an aggravator to trouble ......SO HURRY UP AND BRING POOL TABLE BACK . OH BY THE WAY ? THINK ABOUT BRINGING SKY SPORTS BACK TO .

it appears now that Surrey Police have taken over the running of this place, the landlord has been moved on and the most regular attendees are the Police, how long before its closed and bulldozed i wonder ????

Went to this pub for lunch last Friday. The food was not great, but the staff were very friendly and helpful. The garden is ok... as long as you don't mind all the kids running around!!

Proper man's pub!!

Lovely photo of the pub - makes it look like a charming country joint, rather than the hell hole it is..

Popped in this toilet last Thursday and instantly regretted it, after waiting 10 minutes to get served by some stroppy barmaid, i had to wait while she verbally abused a customer, i then discovered that the dregs that have been barred from the best pub in Sunbury, the Hare and Hounds, inhabit this sorry excuse for a pub.
Soulless is a word that can be used for it, its not one i,d use, toilet is better, such a shame to see all the benefit claimants spending their ill gotten gains in one sorry evening.
I wont be back

wheres all the decent landlords gone, seen two fights in space of a month in this dive of a pub. whats the guvnor up to. need some control of the troublemakers. bring back that fat bloke, he can sit on the buggers. sort it out, used to be at least an ok pub. oh and DONT EAT HERE.
drunkenstranger08 - 19 Mar 2008 00:50
In reference to Pedro101's comment, perhaps the barman doesn't remember the price of every individual drink they serve. Not unreasonable, it's people like you that make this industry a hard one to work in.
sarah101 - 6 Mar 2008 16:35
Ben is the best manager the runner has seen to date! Good food and drink, clean pub and a really nice place to meet frienda. Shame I heard he maybe moving on, maybe M&B should think twice!
TomM - 22 Jan 2008 20:31
Steak was good the other night and the london pride okay; not sorry to see the IPA go. Still not enough people in to create an atmosphere. When you compare this place to another local M&B pub - Kings Fairway in Ashford - you wonder if it was worth it. Now doing an Ember Inns job on the Running Horse, that would be a great idea!

Popped In here for a pint back in December,Pretty reasonably priced and the couple of very cute girls waiting on tables in their santa hats were extremely appreciated! 7/10

yes its changed a lot, but its still populated by meat heads, unfortunately some of them seem to have got jobs behind the bar, when asked how much my round was, which was a pint of lager and a coke, the meat head serving me had to use the till to find out, thicko !!

rumour has it the refurb was around 570,000, what a waste of money when they are faced with the best pub in the area just down the road, the new manager didnt linger long either, the fat git could obviously see the writing on the wall for this toilet
Pedro101 - 29 Dec 2007 11:44
went in the running horse last night god what a drastic change from all the local meatheads in there so much better a good comfortable atmosphere pool table great pub still some old customers in there which didnt look like they should be in there stood out like a sore thumb move on with you . nice to have a nice place to go at last.

Went in with a friend for a bite to eat on a Tuesday night. A few people were in. The new refurb and decor is excellent, the service very good, quick and friendly. NO burgers were available lol. Chose something else which was piping hot and very good. Would go again to eat but wouldnt use it as a regular haunt as it has no atmosphere.

Service was a bit slow the other night and only Greene King IPA was on. It was a Monday but there were quite a few in and I think one member of staff had problems getting to work. Food not bad and friendly service. Need to make sure the beers are on though or they will lose custom.
dougscott - 17 Oct 2007 16:32
Went in for a meal on Monday evening. Found no ales on sale so had decided to try the Guinness Red. Not bad.
The steak meals were absolutely excellent. The customer service was great. One useful point of note though - the kitchen closes early. Discovered this when having our plates cleared - "as you have had a meal you can order a dessert, although the kitchen is closed" and this was about 8pm.
robhealy - 21 Sep 2007 16:58
the pub looks great it will take time to build as the custom base has changed so much for the better its about time. its market is couples and older people that wanna come out for a quiet drink the atmosphere will come go running horse
anonymous - 18 Sep 2007 22:41
Another good pint of Pride the other night. Not too many people in and lacking a bit of atmosphere. Otherwise a nice pub to go to for a drink and a meal. Horses for courses; I don't particularly like loud TVs and pool tables, but each to his own. Maybe some entertainment would give the place a boost - live bands?
dougscott - 17 Sep 2007 15:32
Gets very hot in the bar no air con and you can't open the back door as it's alarmed. Getting served took ages. The pool table has gone and no SKY TV. NOT GOOD.
anonymous - 8 Sep 2007 16:04
3 excellent pints of London Pride was a pleaseant surprise. Steak good value and taste - no Zebu there I think! Good start and hopefully will continue.
dougscott - 31 Aug 2007 13:18
I know for a fact its a big job they have spent 570k on the running horse its going to be a sizzling pub more food now and no meatheads . no sky tv no pool no darts just food in very upmarket deco. its opening weds 29th august. about time we had a nice place to go .
steve32 - 8 Aug 2007 19:12
According to the signs it will reopen on the 28th August.
Re-furb looks to be major judging from the number of skips and portacabins on site.

Projjer - 13 Jul 2007 09:23
I noticed it closed at the weekend, is it for good or another refurb? It only just had its garden re-done and also has a bench in the garden in memory of ex landlord Fred.
robhealy - 11 Jul 2007 15:31
The Running Horse closed on the 30th June 2007..
Projjer - 3 Jul 2007 19:31
Heard a rumour that it is closing - pity the running horse when all the regulars go there instead..
TheGP - 17 Jun 2007 22:04
its a state, a pure state, there was a massive fight in there on 17th of april, causing whatever meat head that runs the place to close it completely for the evening, therefore impacting on the best pub in the area, the Hare and Hounds, all the meat heads from the runner came to our pub - not great

having had the "pleasure" of an evening with this crowd, i can understand now why i dont frequent the runner, what is the relevance of being asked my religion in a pub in the south east of england ???

runner regulars = meat heads
billylotsofmates - 22 Apr 2007 09:19
Building works have now finished it appears - Has improved slightly to be fair, more like the pub it used to be before they started the "refit"...
TheGP - 15 Oct 2006 19:40
New landlady isn't very friendly, comes across as though she really wishes she wasn't there!
anonymous - 7 Aug 2006 17:26
What the hell has happened here? The Running Horse used to be a well run, if slightly rough round the edges, acceptable boozer.

I know they are having building work done, but that doesn't excuse the total breakdown inside the pub - Chairs scattered randomly, old drinks left for hours on tables, half the bar covered in empties, bar staff throwing your change at you. I do hope this is temporary, as it stands at the minute, is the grottiest pub in the area, by some distance.
TheGP - 7 Jul 2006 11:16
Now under new management, and was markedly grotty last time I went in - glasses left uncollected, service slow, pub in a right state.. Hopefully just teething problems

If you would like to see this pub ROCK again then visit this saturday06/05/06 and check out REDFISH MONSTERS OF ROCK.

Hello anonymouse, thank you for your kind words - I have no real axe to grind with Feltham pub drinkers, and you are right that there is no real difference between this pub's customers and the ones in Feltham.

I think my comments have been misconstrued on here about Feltham pubs - There are dodgy punters all over the area, but the pubs in Feltham are particularly bad, whereas this one is better run and more welcoming. I agree with your post completely, so my apologies.
TheGP - 22 Apr 2006 20:01
used to be a good pub when lex run it since then it has gone downhill nice to see it knocked down and start again with people who know how to make it rock again (some hope)
anonymous - 14 Mar 2006 19:34
GP I have read many of your comments on lots of other pubs and usually agree with you but...will you please stop going on about Feltham. We know full well there are unsavoury sorts here but there are plenty of Sunbury and Ashford scumbags too you know. I would rather walk in The Airman than take my chances here.
anonymous - 9 Mar 2006 18:54
Actually, I was too harsh in my earlier post - The dodgy Feltham punters tend to stuck to pubs in Feltham - Quite a mix of people in here, and can certainly look intimidating from the outside - But once you get in there, it's not bad - Beers ok, decent music, quiz machine etc.

TheGP - 12 Dec 2004 21:34
A poor excuse of a pub with a strange collection of pikey punters - a little like the nearby Hare and Hounds. This pub is harmless enough though, it is OK for a quick pint before going to the local curry house (Curry Nights) which is superb.
mike2004 - 18 Oct 2004 13:53
Great pub to watch the football - loads of big screens, plus good atmosphere. Open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
Richard Smith - 15 Oct 2004 11:51
Not a bad pub, on the Feltham/Sunbury border, so you get a fair amount of the Feltham meatheads in. However, as an after work stop for a pint, it is perfectly adequate.
