Went in there at Xmas and the beer was flat and soapy.

This pub has had its ups and downs over the past few years. At the moment its on an up. Always found this a very friendly pub and that is still the case. Decent beer and food and good banter with the people serving.

I so try to give this pub a chance. Wonderful location, charming building but FM total incompetent management
A PUB SURELY CANNOT RUN OUT OF ALE. It does. Tonight the ales it had on were warm, even the bottled stuff. And they offered me ice in my glass, after in desperation I had gone for the Ramrod, and had to ask them if they had forgotten something. ie the glass.
Perhaps like the government we get the pubs that we deserve. I am quite traumatized by this. Why the Speaker (best pub in Westminster) only scores slightly higher I do not know.
Oh it has had another refurb. Not that it has made it any better.

The kitchen is now reopen and as a consequence the crowds have returned. We still rate this pub, bar staff are always smiling and friendly. It is small and does get crowded but give it try.
|
A pleasent enough place in which to drink a pint of Young's.
|
With the kitchen being closed for at least 18 months I don't know how it stayed open. Food is now back on which is great because it is a small single bar pub which makes a real change. Still owned by Youngs and a decent pint.
|
A fair walk from any tube. No greeting from a barman in tee shirt and trainers. Beer is Youngs - not my favourite. It fills up with office workers on their way home, but is a soulless place. Kitchen was closed (on a weekday evening!) so no food. I cannot see any reason to return.

From best to worst pub in the immediate area in a few sorry years, typical sadly of many (ex) Youngs places. Tonight typified this as I was forced to go there as for some reason they were limiting numbers for the England match in the Barley Mow. That probably says it all, Barley Mow bursting at its seams, Royal Oak half full. There was more atmosphere in my lounge watching the Ireland match on my own last night. And worst was the beer was piss poor. Go back ten years or more and it would have been crowded and the situation reversed. There again I am judging it against its former glories, whereas others will be unaware of how good it was 87 to mid 00's.

A nice Youngs pub. No more no less. Service was good as got served quick despite it being very busy.
A nice pub to grab a quick pint.
|
Usually call into the Oak on Sunday for a couple of pints of Youngs and the Sunday papers today found out they are now doing food, so after checking out the menu and what other people where eating decided to have the roast beef the rest of the menu look good too . Best by far pub food in the victoria area, good fresh ingredients and good sized portions, if you are in the area would seriously recomend you pop in.
|
Has had a recent refurb, and now serves food in the evenings, and weekends, also now open Sat until 7 at the moment.
Still the same Royal Oak good range of youngs and guest beers, still the best pub in the area.

This pub is fantastic. Proper beer (well kept), nice staff, polite landlord. In central London, that goes a long, long way.
Keep it up.

Visited yesterday for the first time and would certainly return. I'm not usually a fan of Youngs beer but the Gold was excellent. Ordinary, Special and Bombadier also available. Efficient and friendly barman - although the place wasn't exactly crowded when we arrived about 4 pm!

A very pleasant, unexpected find the other rainy night. Clean, welcoming, warm, well lit pub off the Horseferry road, (a haunt of every London cab driver too it seems). Well worth going to than the boring pubs nearby.
|
After my group and i left the Barley accross the road we came here, far more pleasant and much better beer, if only youngs sadly. Nice small inviting place with merry staff.

The Royal Oak was a very pleasant find on my wander around Westminster. A Youngs pub it is an odd shaped single room with the front part (seen on the photo) consisting of stools next to ledges and a high table or two. The smallish bar sits behind this and to the right of this is a comfortable seating area with upholstered benches along the wall and traditional table. The landlord here was very friendly and attentive and clearly knows his trade.
A comfortable place to drink that I would recommend.

A very nice Young's pub with excellent staff and a really friendly landlord who clearly cares a great deal about the quality of his pub. Regular ales include Young's Bitter and Special, and Bombardier, all of which taste very fresh and clean. This pub can be very busy just after work, especially on Thursdays and Fridays, but it usually quiets down later in the evening. The interior of the pub is comfortable and basic with a range of small tables of differing heights; the decoration is fairly traditional. One minor downside is the television, which isn't always silent. Overall: for friendly staff and an excellent pint of Young's beer, this pub can't be beaten.

What have the nearby Morpeth, Royal Oak, Buck, the Clock House (Peckham), and the Dulwich Woodhouse got in common (apart from being once five of my favourite pubs in London).
Just to vary my posts on a character assignation - this was the bees knees, and in the past reassuringly cheap. Just not the pub it was (after twenty years of regularly visiting), fortunately you have the Speaker in easy walking distance and even over the road is better.
Question for some of the older readers, whatever happened to the Regency (the squalid smoky pub not the filmset greasy spoons)
|
Great pub that the Young's pubco interior "design" team haven't got their rookers into.
Very friendly landlord who takes pride in both his pub and beer. Slightly off the beaten track but well worth a visit if you are in the area.
|
A very smart Young's pub with well kept beer. Probably the best in the locality. The landlord is very amiable. Not somewhere to head for but definitely worth a look if you're in Westminster.
|
A great old pub with a good location for watching the world go by from the street corner bay windows.
|
Nice little Youngs Pub on the corner of the street. Enough seating on a Sunday afternoon to sit our large group down. Either the landlord or regulars seem to be into Horse Racing as a race was turned up rather loud on the TV during our stay.
|
A neat little pub - nice staff, great Youngs beer.
Good to have a quiet night with a mate

A decent enough pub. Friendly Landlord and bar staff when we were there. The pub is geared up for standing drinkers.
|
Fairly pleasant Youngs pub, with the standard Wells & Youngs range. Quite small and a tiny bit drafty. Bit quieter than the other nearby pubs and a bit less smokey as a result. I quite like it for a quiet after-work pint, but dont expect a wild time.
|
6pm and Youngs good again, staff friendly and not too busy. Bit pricey, but hey it's Westminster.
|
A wonderful pub, but with too few seats. A full range of Young's beers makes it worth standing up, though.
|
Hadn't noticed any smelly people... I like this place. It is a bit expensive - and small, but the staff seem friendly and it has a nice atmosphere. The area is desperately short of anywhere half-decent but this is OK.
|
Too many people in here with BO. Please wash.
|
Joe is spot on about the Youngs. Have yet to have a bad one.
And yes, it doies get confusing after a few. Still one of the better pubs around Westminster village though.

Average boozer but better than some in this dull part of westminster

Shape of pub makes it confusing when you're pissed - as I have been on last two visits. Good pint of Youngs though - is there a bad one??
