I know someone who should be flattened. 2 posts down.
It seems poor old slerpy is now on a typo crusade! But, then, he's the only bloke in the UK to drink Greensands IPA....
Nuffsaid, flatened Is that similar to being flattened?
Soon to be flatened
I assume it is still closed.
Pub has now been closed. Did not stop me dreaming about it last night however.
This pub has now shut for good and is boarded up as part of a large development for a Waitrose store.
Found the pub while looking for somewhere showing Sky Sports. First impressions were that it's a locals pub with all the main things you would expect: real ale, pool table, dart board, Jukebox and TV in the corner. Of the four real ale pumps at the bar, only one was on with Ruddles County the only option, although a good pint. The mix of locals was broad. There were a bunch of young lads playing pool, darts and keeping the jukebox flowing, while a small group of pensioners were playing cards in the main bar area. While I didn't consider the atmosphere to be hostile, there was plenty of swearing going on and if you were of a nervous disposition then navigating your way to the gents toilet past the local youngsters at the pool table could be intimidating. In summary, it's not somewhere where you would take your girlfriend on a first date but for watching sport with a pint it ticks all the boxes.
those so called yobs were people watching football on tv,this pub has changed for the better, all the dossers have been barred and the locals are making there way back slowly,it has a darts team, pool team and footie team. also you can see live bands once a month and the music caters for young and very old,go in on a tuesday afternoon and will here the likes of ella fitzgerald and max bygraves if this isnt a proper boozer then what is ?
Heard shouting yobs in here other day, shocking.
Ok now been taken over.
Have been told its being taken over by the same people that have The Boilerroom I wish them all the best. Nice little olde Guildford pub.
Locals pub.
Rough part of Guildford and not worth going to.
They do live music on Saturdays for those interested.
Beer is poor.
one lump or 2?
Sure this used to be an Irish pub when I was at Tech not far away. They used to serve me when I looked 15 and no other pub did. Except the Stoke of course. I'd love to see it again for old times sakes. The people who are slagging it off - use it or lose it.
There are better backstreet locals pubs. I'd recommend the Royal Oak, while the Robin Hood can also be worthwhile on a good night. This one is no good.
Guildford is a pretty lousy town for backstreet locals' pubs, so assuming this place is now open properly again, it's a pleasing development. I went in on a Saturday early evening: the pub was very quiet but quite relaxing and pleasant. It's a small and basic single room interior with a small beer garden (pleasingly advertised as a "secret garden" on the pub sign) out the back. It's a Greene King house although unusually didn't have IPA on when I visited: I had a pretty drinkable pint of Trip to Jerusalem instead. Friendly service from the barmaid, whom I also saw being very helpful to a very elderly and infirm local: always good to see. What clientele there were were very much of the local variety, and included some impressively drunk people. I enjoyed my visit and would come again.
Good to see a pub reopened, got to ask who the was old fellow asleep in the corner was?
Reopening 20 October with local landlords and real ales.
No loss if its shut again, weird pub this one. Reminds me of some losers who pick on people at school. 'What so you drink Guinness, Haha - we only drink Carling in here mate, get lost!'
Visited the pub 18th September, I am afraid it's shut again.
I went into the Live on Friday just gone and was chuffed to see the place full of life again!! It's been through some tough times by any stretch of the imagination as is clearly coming through the other side, glad to call it my local again!
Good to hear Mr.S.P.R.
Pub is back up and running again.
I have to agree with Beersupper the place is closed or it was last week.I had a look through the letter box and it looks as if it`s just been left to rot. So Beersupper you don`t have to look i`ve done it for you ol chap.
Have been informed the Live is no more, shut, gone, windows all smashed at the back, i hope this is not the case. Anybody know whats happening?????
This a great music pub, excellently run by Maz. There is a blues-rock jam every month on the second Tuesday and great local bands like Six Miles Away play on Saturday evenings. Great fun, friendly and intimate atmosphere.
This is a great pub, from the first time i walked in the locals were just warm and welcome, i do admit it is easier in there when you are a familiar face but hey arent most pubs like that
Good to see this pub is still here.Would not make it my local, but always have a pint here when in area.keep up the good work people.
Unfortunately I have to agree with some of the other reviewers. Not the friendliest place if your face isn't known. Not very good ventilation, the last 2 times I've been there it was like sitting inside a chimney.
Been here once, locals fell silent when I went in, quickly got drink (wise not to get drunk unless you have Special Branch and US Secret Service in toe) and made my way to the 'Secret Garden.' This was a patio with a 10 foot high brick wall and tatty white patio set. Best of all I had a chewed dog toy and a steaming heap of dog shit for company.
Not the freindliest place to go. If you look like you are not too sure about this place expect to told to leave in a rather obvious manner
I go in here once a year for a departmental Christmas bash. Same regulars each year. They really are the odd squad, but the staff were very friendly (possibly because we amount to 30% of the annual turnover). Not sure about the high score this place has!

Went again on Saturday.
Regulars blocking access to bar with their stools. Not intentional, I'm sure but not very welcoming.

Don't remember prices.
Blood red carpet a bit disconcerting.

Very small traditional pub. The draw back is the hugely expensive prices. Nearly 3 quid for a pint of bitter last time I was there.
