Absolutely packed as match day but got to stand in a corner. Good choice of beers and a pub that looks well worth visiting when quieter.

Came out of the station on the correct side this time (earlier in the day didn't and went in the Midland Hotel - not listed and shouldn't be (no ales). A short walk across the car park. Small, multi roomed with four ales - North Riding Sorachi Stout, Dukeries Arrabella Gold, Hawkshead Gold and Double Top History Maker, which was very nice. Best avoided on matchdays due to crush as the team's doing well.

Went here recently before a football match (as an away fan). Popular place, I don't think I've ever been in such a crowded pub. 4 varied real ales (I think) in good nick. Friendly (although very busy) staff.

Railwayania around the pub.

Definitely a good pub. But if it is a football day get there early.

In all my years I've only ever had 1 pint in Mansfield and that was around 13 years ago when I was here for a football game on a Tuesday night that got postponed.

Back in Mansfield on the 2nd Saturday in January to tick the football ground and try and get as many of the 8 pubs in the town ticked that appear in the 2016 GBG.

First stop the Railway Inn at 11am. I'm the 4th punter through the door with the 3 before me here for an early lunch. Checking the menu the food seems extremely well priced, its home cooked and from the plate I saw on its way to a hungry OAP looked pretty good.

The bar with 4 hand pumps is very cosy with 4 separate area's for seating and dining. 3 ales on which were, Full Mash Grease Monkey, Dunkeries Lord Furnival and Ambridge Sticky Dog @ 4.0%. I went for a pint of the Sticky Dog as it's an IPA and just the right abv for the first ale of the day. A chalk board displays 11 ales as coming soon, 4 each from Dunkeries and Abbeydale.

The friendly barmaid was juggling the food orders with putting a new ale on and pouring the others through.

Wooden banquet seating and wooden tables. Each table had a carving of a steam train on it, nice touch. The bar itself is very small with a front hatch , hanging on the ceiling inside the bar are 20+ brewery and whiskey water hugs.

The Railway Inn has a real charm to it and feels a bit like you're in a time warp, smooth radio was playing at an acceptable level.

A great start to the day.

Still a decent enough alehouse - had a pleasant quiet afternoon pint here.

Lovely old-fashioned pub near the centre of Mansfield. Ideal for away fans. They had Dukeries Pale Ale, Nevermore stout and another stronger ale on when we went. Also real Scrumpy on tap (7.3%). Excellent homemade food available for £5.95. We had cheese & onion pie, game pie, chicken & leek pie and chilli. All served with hand-cut chips and mushy peas. The front bar is set up like a café. Friendly service throughout.

Excellent, cosy, welcoming, community pub serving excellent value home cooked food and an ever changing selection of 3 real ales and 2, sometimes 3, real ciders all in tip top condition. Best pub in the town centre by far, just being redecorated giving it a brighter look. Dog friendly too. Small garden area and covered in outdoor smoking area. Well worth a visit.

Nice enough little pub with main bar area and then two small seperate rooms towards the front. They had three Black Hole Brewery beers on today of which I tried the Titan which was a pretty good brew. Probably your best ale pub in the town. The pub's dog barks at chinamen.

A little gem, and one of the last of a dyeing breed in Mansfield town centre. Three ever changing real ales which are almost always in tip top condition, very friendly and welcoming staff (probably 'cos they're all of the fairer sex), the best value home made steak pie ever - with hand cut chips and veg (about a fiver!) and a great open-mike evening on the third Thursday of every month. George Bateman definately did us a favour when he sold The Railway to the current owners!

brilliant - one of the few places in Mansfield Town where you wont get stabbed. Small risk of being talked to death by drunken oldsters though.

My first ever visit to Mansfield was for the FA Cup game against Lewes. This pub stood out from the four entries in the Good Beer Guide and lived up to its billing. Very friendly, good beer and exceptionally good value pub grub - mushy peas and all! Quite a contrast in atmosphere to the football ground, where the staff, especially the stewards, must be the most miserable in the country.

I liked this pub. At first sight it may appear a little off-putting, with two front windows that allow passers-by to see into the two front, rather austere and harshly-lit bars . However inside the back bar is more welcoming and snug with plenty of seating and railway-themed decoration and items adorning the walls. As a stranger to both Mansfield and this pub, I was made to feel very welcome by the locals up at the bar and by the friendly landlady. There were three real ales on when I was there and the two that I tried were in tip-top condition.

Called in while visiting Mansfield beer festival, and enjoyed the beer sampled here. It has a lovely community feel about it.

The previous owning brewery had plans to sell this place for other use but it was saved, largely due to the efforts of the local CAMRA branch and continues to serve the drinker in the only way it knows good beer in good surroundings. One Bateman beer remains, supplemented by two guests. Two small, economically furnished rooms either side of the entrance, which opens out to reveal a pleasant area with railway paintings and a collection of clocks.

Great to see that this place has been saved from being converted into offices. They serve a good pint of Bateman's XB here and offer very reasonably priced meals. A warm, welcoming atmosphere and a really nice place to wait for your train home - trouble is, it's easy to miss it!

A great little pub if you like to be off the town centre on a Saturday night. The bar is quite unusual.Mainly locals which is not always a bad thing.

A bit small and poky, but one of the few pubs in this part of Mansfield to sell cask beer
