Shame those over 55s won’t have a local to call in for a pint.

Demolished actually - to make way for a block of flats, for the over 55s.

Closed again!

Entertaining (if slightly inept) band enlivened a quiet evening in town. Very friendly service and good atmosphere, rare sighting of real ale (ok, Doom Bar but well kept). Pub has a ragged charm.
|
Pub now open. Better than a closed pub, but not great.

The 'Hornblower' is (allegedly) reopening / reopened (?) on 26th June 2009.
No other info at present sorry !

This pub is now CLOSED.

No real ale when visited :-( 6/10

Great pub - great characters - great music - live - real ale.

Used to go for a pint here whenever visiting Newport. I'm quite partial to a bit of a metal and they had a good choice of real ales. But...went in here a year ago with three mates and it was vinegar city. We all had duff pints, regardless of what we were drining. Could have just been a bad day I suppose, but not been back since.

If you don;t live in Newport but are coming to town to see a rock or metal gig , this is the pub to be in for pre-gig drinks. It has a great atmos and blasts rock music!!

The Hornblower is a small venue, very popular with bikers, rockers and locals alike. Used to have a good selection of real ale on tap and occassional live bands.
