On our way to Whitby and we made a quick stop in the lovely Robin Hood's Bay. 2 pubs here to tick so I choose the furthest of the 2 to start in.

A stroll down the steep hill to the front and you're moments away from this olde-worlde pub that really is quaint.

Inside to the cosy bar and there are 4 ales on offer as I was driving I went for a half of Cameron's Strongarm @ 4.0%, a good ruby beer.

A shelf that had a quantity of old beer bottles on it is part of the eclectic mix of memorabilia that is dotted about.

Food was starting to be served, the sandwiches looked good.

A decent pub that I'd like to have spent more time in.

Hellishly expensive Old Peculier, but quite a nice little place to enjoy it in once you've taken the mortgage out. Could do with a bit of a spruce-up and the rotund guy behind the bar could do with cheering up a bit, but we have spent quite a few nice evenings here when in the area over the years.

did the quiz on the sunday night and listened to the local blues band on the monday night who are very good. the locals are so friendly. i did notice that a round is bloody expensive though. the atmosphere out on the street was brilliant.

Didnt seem to pay as much as the previous reviewer but wine and soft drink was pricey, but was welcomed with friendly banter. Dont quite see how this or any of the local pubs rate so high a rating though.

Called in at lunchtime and was charged 10.15 for 2 1/2 pints of bitter and a tonic water. Checked price and 3.50 pint for Summer Lightning. Be warned.

Been again for a couple of nights. Wonderful pub. The Old Peculiar was outstanding. It was busy both nights and we had a really good time chatting with the locals and staff who were extremely friendly. Best pub in Robin Hoods Bay by a mile.

just spent a great night in the dolphin counting down the grandfather clock to my 50th birthday. good company, great atmosphere, lovely pub. the family room that's tucked away at the back was full too. it made my fiftieth a memorable night.

Denugo has it spot on. If you are in RBH, this is definitely the pub to visit.

We visit only once or twice per year but the standard is well maintained.

Small traditional pub in a steep narrow street close to the saefront of this small picturesque village. There's a single beamed bar and a couple of seats outside for drinking on the pavement.

The pub clearly prides itself on its real ales - "Ye Dolphin Real Ales" is proudly displayed on the pub sign and its a CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular.

Food, which includes fish specialities is served between 12 and 2 and also 6.30 to 9 pm.

Having arrived at the pub via the scenic route - coastal footpath from Whitby ( a recommended walk, incidentally ) - I was eagerly anticipating refuelling with a pint or two, but my pint of Broadside was unremarkable and it would have been nice to have seen a micro on offer . The other beers were from the usual suspects - Deuchars IPA, Bombardier and Theakstons XB.

I enjoyed the visit - since its a GBG regular, I'll put my disappointing pint down as a one-off.

Stayed in Robin Hood Bay last weekend and made this pub our temporary evening home. Made to feel very welcome - excellent beer and wonderful food! Chunky chips to die for (more like roast spuds!), very fresh salads (always rare in pubs!) - generally delicious food!

Only negative thing I could find to say is that it got very smokey which was a problem (for us at least) when eating in the bar area - but guess that won't be an issue for much longer!!

Wonderful pub - make sure you hunt it out!

Great pub and probably the best in Robin Hoods Bay.we camped up the road so after all that fresh sea air we wanted a good old fashioned real ale pub and some nice food which is exactly what we got.Really chilled out atmosphere, lovely!

Now pour my beer without being asked. A place that is indeed very welcoming with very good food and spot-on beer. See you soon.

Marvellous. Full of charm and character. I love the way they'll pass you pints through the window if you're ouside on a summer evening. Great beer and food. 10/10, no question.

A rambling multi-level pub of huge compelling charm. We went in slightly wet after a walk along the cliffs and were made very welcome. The Theakstons beers were in spanking condition. The people were warm and lively, and soon we were chatting away to everyone and it seemed like The Bay had been our home for years. David, the mad white elephant, was a very entertaining character. Great place.
