Well Folks......
Not been in this Pub since my last comment on here which was a while back, but we walked past here recently and noticed new beer tables outside, and a very attractive Xmas display in the windows, so as we had a few Hours to wait for our Train back home, decided to give it another try, and I must admit, I was glad we did. The place has changed beyond belief inside, and it is now spotless everywhere, with a lovely pleasant atmosphere all round, and a great selection of food, which we tried, and everything about this Pub, is a 100% improvement since our last visit. Highly Recommended indeed nowdays.......

Hello! Please, send me an email address to person who is responsible for this pub (The Sawyers Arms, Paddington, W2 1 HL). I have a question regarding one check and I have to send some copies by email. My email address is [email protected].
Please hurry, this is an urgent matter. Regards, Meri Kantoniemi

Distinguishes itself from the very proximate competion by not having the sour smell of stale beer. Owned by the Green King Pub Company by the look of it with all the negatives that that brings including a menu that could be found anywhere except a traditional pub including such classics as duck and hoi son sauce wrap. Having said that a very decent pint of Abbot from a selection including IPA & Speckled Hen, the London Ale was off. Overall just about fit for purpose if that purpose is a quick beer en route to somewhere else!

beers included speckled hen , ruddles county green king ipa , abbot ale , fairly plush inside , but with a large dining area upstairs the pub obviously aimed at eaters. That said unwelcoming , and a contentious issue ,about the amount of head on me pint .This would not be my local if i lived in the area .

Must agree with some of the comments below, we have called in here a couple of times recently, whilst waiting for a Train home, and the Landlord HAS been very arrogant / ignorant, and in fact, very rude to us last time ( if it IS the same Guy ) we called here. O.K. to sit outside and watch the world go by though, but certainly NOT a Pub I would visit regularly if I lived anywhere near the place........
It was actually closed on the 1st of July, when we went to call in there, so used the Sussex Arms just down the road instead, which was much friendlier indeed, so we know where to visit next time, we are waiting for a Train home now......

OK-ish sort of pub, but you just know that they are going to serve you a 'pint' with 3/4 inch of bubbles on top (and they don't disappoint). The barman didn't look too keen to top-up my glass, but I eventually ended up with a respectable pint of Bombardier. One of the better establishments within a few minutes walk of Paddington station (but that is fairly faint praise...).
|
Not a bad pub and use it quite often when in London. Not cheap but staff are good and the food is not bad.
|
Not too bad a choice for the station - unexpectedly good pints of Adnams Broadside and Spitfire (think GK IPA was the other one on) although not cheap by any means.
Interesting layout inside, plenty of different areas to sit in. Decent crowd too, good atmosphere.
Food came out at fair speed and tasted fairly good for what it was.
No world-beater, but would seek out again if I had 30 minutes to kill before the train.

Seems like quite a nice pub to me though I have only visited twice. Maybe I had luck on my side but the service seemed alright to me, I didn't have to wait long and the bar staff understood me - maybe they're learning English fast. It was very crowded on my visit on a Saturday evening although that isn't too surprising and being in a group of two we did manage to find somewhere to sit. Not a bad option for a pint or two if you're in the area.

Quite a nice little pub, good mix of drinkers. The bar staff were friendly enough but boy were they pushy at drinking up time!

Hi there popped in on 12/5/07 on way to wembley to watch stevenage borough, had young son with me asked landlady if ok for him to come in it was no problem she said, all staff very friendly and nice inside thanks again.

Nice IPA on tap but staff lack of English got slightly problematic.
Downstairs fairly crowded, upstairs given over to ropey, short-staffed restaurant. With hardly any customers seated, we still waited an HOUR for a plate of fish & chips to be served. Gave up and left.

Unexpected excellent pint(s) of Bombadier, first class. MEGA Smokey place! But good and not too pricey. Poor english speaking bar staff a bit tricky but that's normal nowadays.
|
Beer is well kept especially the Bombardier and the Broadside but the service is crap. Also some of the customers think they are so high and mighty that they should be served immediately.Either walk to the Victoria or the Royal Exchange which are the best pubs in Paddington or jump on the tube and go elsewhere.

Nice friendly, cosy place, ideal for a quick couple. Does cheap tourist food upstairs which is reasonable.
|
probably the best pub in the area. Good beer. Edible food. staff ok.If they didnt run the place firmly, it would be full of assholes
|
Fairly average place, but the service is very hit and miss. They've taken my drinks away early before too - it always leaves a sour taste at the end of the night when that happens.
|
To the person below, asking the name of the pub when it had live music, I think it was The Western Counties.
|
I visited this pub last night and the service was appalling. In particular, several times during the night the glass collectors tried to take away glasses with a significant amount left in the bottom, than at twelve minutes past eleven one of them took our glasses and said "we're closed". On offering to finish immediately what was left in the glasses before she took them away she ignored us and walked off with them, despite it being nowhere near the end of drinking-up time. It might be a reasonable pub if the staff could find it in them to be civil.

Realy nice pub.. real ale and very nice service..
|
Can't believe this is rated lower than the Pride. Much better, cosy, cleaner and better staff (family I think). Lots of locals and tourists but quite welcoming...

best of the bunch near the tube,..........2/10

I used to frequent this pub in the mid and late 1970's when it used to have pub-rock bands on stage, and had a different name.
Does anyone know it's previous name(s) ?

I go to this pub each time i come to London. My B and B is just around the corner. And it has a nice atmosphere.
