Just reopened a week ago! And that's where the excitement ends. When will someone show this former glorious pub some love.
Tired and worn out. Threadbare carpets, poorly painted woodwork, dirty and smelly.
The new owners are very rude, arrogant and suffer from severe attitude problems. Within a week have alienated most of the locals.
Such a shame this social hub has been let down again.

It's SHUT! Closed down, end of! Only the Falcon left and they were too busy for us to get served / fed! :-( Poor Painswick....

Comfortable, homely locals' pub in centre of village that's miles better than the nearby Falcon Inn for beer: Stroud's 'Tom Long' and Hook Norton's 'Twelve Days' were on and both well kept when last visited. Didn't sample the food but (apart from Puppy Dog Pie! - actually steak and ale pie) seemed the usual fare. Inviting roaring fire in one of the bars was welcome.

visited this pub at 13.30 one friday afternoon. I found only two people finishing a meal. The wife and I were in the pub 10 minutes waiting for a drink and saw nobody behind the bar. Other customers came in wanting food and drinks, and they left because of the lack of staff.
In the ten minutes I was there I could have helped myself finished my drink and left, nobody would be any the wiser.
We left for the Falcon instead!

Plus point- the beer was good.
Minus points- food was rather average and took ages to arrive. The couple next to us waited 45 minutes for a pair of chicken wings. We left after waiting 20 minutes for our desserts, without result. The staff didn't even bother to apologise.
I might go back for the ale, but I won't go back for the food or the service.

Perfect Cotswolds pub for me - they are doing lunch and there is a nice little courtyard between the bars where the dog is welcome.
Sit in the shade listening to ladies planning the CW walks and some spanairds.
Food was very nice and the barman and chef bother spoke to me during a solo visit after a 10 miler in the slad valley.

Quality hostelry in a beautiful Cotswold location, Stroud Tom Long on good form and the food was very tasty,with generous portions. One to walk to someday for a proper day of ale sampling.

Good pint of Stroud beer, Budding, on brief visit to this historic, if eerily silent, Cotswold village. Basic decor, but friendly welcome the menu appeared appetising.

A new landlord took over a few months ago (Keith) and the place was really frindly with excellent beer when we popped in last weekend. Best pub in the village.

Visited Saturday 27 March about 5.45pm. Great pub! New people in there- three real ales (all good). Log fire burning, friendly locals, menu looked good. Go there if you're nearby!

Excellent food and Stroud brewery beer absolutely stunning. I only wish the place had better heating. It was a freezing day and it was nearly as cold inside!

Stroud tom Long, Budding and Organic Ale on offer, all in good nick. Food was pretty decent too.

This pub has recently changed hands. Friendly service, decent food served quickly, a fire in the grate, and when we were there earlier this week, Tom Long, Black Sheep and Spitfire on tap. Yes, it could still do with some re-decoration, but over the course of 4 visits we were made to feel welcome and valued.
