Went to anam bar last weekend for my cousin's 30s birthday party and i was quite surprised as I'd been there a few years ago and was different. Asked the manager and he told me management has changed (that's why this positive change) Got nothing else to say but good things about this place: great atmosphere, great staff, great music and of course GREAT COCKTAILS. Loved the red room and the classy decoration in the whole place. Definitely will be back very soon!! THANKS ANAM BAR TEAM FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT!

Pubs @ Chapel Market never a great idea, in my experience. No, rainlight, it doesn't mean 'up the arse' (although you made me laugh) - it's Gaelic for 'name' or 'fame' (!)

Brutally expensive at four quid for a squat bottle of the kind of Franco-Belgian stuff you can get reduced at Morrisons. A focus group's idea of what a "trendy" bar is.

'Ab anam' means 'up the arse'. In what sense do they mean it?

Reasonable venue if don't mind being crammed in like a sardine. Very nice laydees if I remember correctly.

this place seems to have got better with new owners then! i believe its the managers from lounge lover who now run it. cocktails A1, service slow but worth waiting for! and the music is the best i've heard for a looooong time.

my friend had her birthday here last saturday (25th March) and it was one of the best nights we've all had, together, in a bar, in London. there were about 30 of us, we had booked an area downstairs and there was no problem getting all of us in comfortably. the bar staff were very welcoming and the drinks so damn tasty! i managed to spend 120 but worth it. the music was top notch, the DJs were playing a real mix of styles that worked really well from disco to funk to house. definitely recommend anam, a real gem this one.

Rude staff , poor service.

Great bar. Expensive cocktails but well worth it. A good night out, every so often.

Smashing place. Unpretentious, buzzy, small. If you're brave enough to venture away from the monotony and Estate agent massive of Upper St, you will be well rewarded. Chapel Market has something incredibly seedy and sexy about it, combined with a taste of the area from before it became so fashionable/touristy.

This place is open late. They technically have a pitiful selection of beers on tap, but they turn these off after about eleven on the pretext that "they don't have enough staff". The barman told me that he could make a cocktail faster than he could pour a pint. Moron! They only thing they could get me was a terrible pint of Guiness. This place might be alright if you want to drink cocktails (although Santa Fe on Upper Street is streets ahead) and want to listen to crappy house music, but I'd rather drink Special Brew on the Green, to be perfectly honest. Truly awful.

Had my birthday here last Saturday night, what a great bar. The staff were excellent and the drinks were as funky as the decor. They even had the famous Dj Bill Brewster playing, music was fantastic. Definitely going back.

To qoute Siobhan Murphy of the Evening Standard (20/07/04) "..after a few hours the clientele were looking decidedly more Chav than chic." Enough said!

Have heard so much about this place being a Modern Irish Bar...but there is nothing remotely Irish about it!! I pity any woman who stands on the metre square glass floor, guys on the floor below get an eyeful, while the downstairs looks no different to the club bars in the West End...NOTHING SPECIAL

Anam is such a gem of a bar to suddenly appear in Islington. We found it last weekend and had what turned out to be one of the most spontainiously good nights this year. The music was so funky along with the drinks and the staff looked like they really enjoyed serving us. Wait until you see the bathrooms!!!! so cool.... Definitely going back.

Visited Anam last weekend with a group of 5 mates and excellent night, atmosphere hopping, talent A1, and staff really got into the whole vibe.Definitely going back, got to know some good bartenders so planning on being a regular!!Its worth getting away from the same old stuff on Upper street and finding new interesting venues.

Besides the really cool decor, just try and get a drink from the obnoxios aussie 'pseudo' cocktail barman. Impossible to get a drink!! Competing with teenagers. Tries to be classy but is still so Chapel Market. If you have any real urban calling, don't bother !

Had a fantastic night there on saturday- really rockin place. Cocktials to die for, and very very strong! Met the owner, lovely Irish guy who is a real laugh. Really made us feel welcome and will definitely be back- next Friday!!! Best drink I think is the rasberry mule and my boyfriend loved the cuban dude and the Irish buck. Check out the fish tank in the bathrooms-you are up for a real treat!!

Anam opened in mid May and already is established as being one of the top bars in Islington. It brings a touch of class to the area and while its off the beaten track at the far end of Chapel Market, its well worth checking out. Theres a great selection of drinks but my favourite has to be the cocktails and especially the Soul Seeker - Zubrowka Vodka with lemon, passion fruit, apple & ginger beer served in very large glass. Downstairs is a small club that really rocks with different DJ's every weekend. Another great feature is the toilets upstairs, and the interesting use of a fishtank. I'd definitely recommend a vist to Anam if you want a night of quality drinks and good music.

Anam is that rare creature: a fashionable late night venue with soul, and a subtle Irish influence that can only prove to be a winning combination.Contemporary Irish in style with a funky retro twist, Anam serves an array of beers, wines, champagnes and its speciality: cocktails. Anam has a set policy of quality music nightly, and this is enhanced from Thurs- Sat with Londons finest home grown djs and surprise International guests. With djs like Stuart Patterson (Faith), Terry Farely (Boys Own), Leo Elstob (Chicane) all spinning in month one expect this soulful haven to become Islingtons premier quality drinks and music venue.
