user reviews of the Robin Hood, Brighton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

It's blue now.

It's an OK pub, but probably has more negatives than positives for me. The pub appears to be two rooms knocked together, with a bar counter straddling both, but the dividing wall comes very close to the bar. And that is where the cask pumps are. So if anyone sits there, it's really hard to see the pump clips.

The place has a nice vibe, but it's also quite dingy. I found it hard to see while in there. A mostly trendy middle aged clientèle on my Sunday afternoon visit. They seem to have a problem with ventilation because when I went to close the door because my daughter and I were sitting in a draught, she insisted that, even though it was cold, the door should be kept open. We moved to a different table.

The only food offered is pizza at £7.50 , or some hot chilli olives. I like that they offer food, and I prefer that a place specialise in one thing which they can make quickly and easily rather than fail to offer anything because they expect to have to offer a full menu. So full credit for that. But the pizzas are small. And they can come burnt or underdone (we had both, because we ordered again, not realising how small they would be).

Our barmaid was not very friendly or helpful. And there was a smell from the toilets.

Plus points is that they sell Harveys Bitter, plus a guest beer. And they have a large selection of board games, and while they don't offer any food for children, they do allow children into the pub.

The place is a mix of good and bad. It's not quite good enough for me to ever want to go back. But it's not quite bad enough for me to refuse to enter it if there is nothing else in the area.

We visited on Sunday when they were holding their 8th birthday party. The street outside was closed and local bands were playing. A definite local party atmosphere with just a few fellow tourists present. The pub was extremely busy but the service was prompt and South Downs Ruskin's Ram and Long Man Best were two excellent pints of the several offered during what seemed to be a weekend beer festival.

Tried this out for refreshments before going to a concert at the Old Market. What a refreshing surprise! Reminded me more of a London pub than Brighton. Service was excellent and the pizza was good value. I'd give it full marks.

Lovely, friendly pub with a nice atmosphere, and usually very good beer. Definitely more of a pub than a bar...

It's a studenty type bar, a bit dark. Internet facility, posters and that sort of thing. Popped in here midweek, the staff are attentive. Not much else to say really, it's pretty ordinary.

Sort of cross between a bar and a pub...and the name is not charity related..it's been called The Robin Hood forever. Remember the days when Kit was behind the bar?

I'm afraid I disagree about the pizzas, they're not great. However, this is a top pub with good beer and great staff.

Nice interior and atmosphere, and cheap pizzas. All the profits from the business go to charity (hence the name!).

Great pub, sells a pretty good range of beer, nice surroundings and atmosphere. Pizza for abou 5 at almost any time! Really different and a welcome change from most McPubs around Brighton.

Brilliant friendly pub. The Pizzas are lovely and they do a mean pint of Harveys... and to top it all off, all their profits go to local charities!

Quite simply, still the best pub in Brighton. Been checking out other pubs further afield lately but always come crawling back!

New to the area and found this place by accident. Thank god there are still some proper pubs left! Love it - but Leffe on draft might do me some perment damage!

Still a great local pub - must have the biggest choice of board games of any pub ever! Great Harveys and staff

Have been hearing lots of good things about this place for a while and it doesn't disappoint. My girlfriend reckons it's one of only a couple of pubs in brighton where she feels comfortable going in and having a drink on her own. That says it all in my book. Lovely, chilled crowd and it has a top range of beers - Leffe, Star, Harveys etc. Already my favourite after only a couple of visits

A million miles away from what it used to be like. The lager-swilling tattoed blokes have mainly gone, and it's now gentler, smarter and cleaner with a good range of drinks and some delightful barstaff. I haven't tried any of the pizzas yet but they look fine. A very welcome addition to this part of Brighton.

I have visited the pub twice in September 2005 both times on a busy Friday night the service and atmosphere was exhalent a choice of real ales our London pride was tip- top the bar service was well above standard on both visits.A good pub to vist near to city centre

My favourite bar in hove by a mile. Plus i want that hand carved table near the gents.

On the face of it this should be a great pub, but unfortunately it isn't. It has always been known as a builders pub and still attracts a very noisy 'blokeish' crowd. The atmosphere late at night can be scary and neighbours have frequently had problems as people leave the pub.

A great new pub for Brighton, having just opened at the beginning of the summer. If every major corporation had the same attitude to profits as this place, (as they donate all profits to charity), I think the world would be a very very different place. Cosy atmosfere and big comfy leather chairs. The only food they do is tasty pizza, cooked in a small oven just behind the bar, served with fresh basil leaves and hot olive oil......Mmmmm. Friendly staff that are hard to keep your eyes off, and live music in the evenings from time to time.
Full thums up, cracking!

still a great night out. the staff are far too sexy to comment upon. The fact the profits go to charity make it even better!

really groovy, chilled out place, some money goes to charity (the net profit) cosy and nice atmosphere- worth a visit
