Still around and undergoing a repaint. One New River brew on handpump but I swerved it and went for lager here. It's looking like West Hendon's sole remaining pub is safe for now.

Only one ale on (Oakham Citra) and not a soul was drinking it so I stuck to lager myself. This is yet another pub under threat as there are plans to demolish it and build flats on the site. London's NW postcodes are not only a real ale desert but will soon be devoid of pubs too at the current rate of closure.

Dropped by this evening had a reasonable pint of Hophead. It is a bit rough and ready but relatively friendly with it. Would agree it isn't GBG material but if you're in Hendon there just isn't anything else (since the Greyhound went down the toilet)

Came along to here recently, as it was the only North West London pub in the 2018 Good Beer Guide that I had not been to. It was quite frankly disappointing. Hophead was the solitary real ale. I'm not normally into hoppy beers. But I had it anyway and the quality was fine. Very quiet on my Saturday lunchtime visit. But I doubt I'll venture to Hendon again any time soon.

No great change from previous visits apart from them now doing a fairly decent pint of Dark Star Hophead - probably worth a drop by now (for the ale and the fact that apart from a toilet masquerading as a pub on West Hendon Broadway there is nowhere else in the area)

I lived in Hendon for 11 years and somehow never visited this place until long after I departed this colourless suburb in 2011. I was pleasantly surprised - a good mx of ages and ethnicities, friendly service and Dark Star on tap - this was in good condition and the pub is a decent enough stop off. My only quibble is the extra large sixed England flag that festoons one wall - unnecessary.

What a difference four years make. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. Pool table is in the front bar now with table tennis in the garden (great idea) kitchen's been closed :( but they are hoping to reopen it soon. The pub has three cask ale pumps with two of them all the time (Portobello's Star on as their regular ale and a range of guest ales on the other). As for having a "fit barmaid" behind the ramp.......really guy? That would have no doubt been important in the 1980's but that kind of sexism is just unnecessary these days. My opinion is that the male and female staff I've seen behind there are welcoming and professional.
Nice pub. Friendly people and a good product range

i saw the regulars refuse to eat the food.
says it all!! and the kitchen is right next to the toilets....wtf?!
beer ok, pool tables guarded fiercely by regulars so hard to go in and have a few games with mates - 'its winner stays on mate' is their stock response to asking if they will be long. not against the rules but still, not great for the randomers.
fit barmaid is a plus
average at best and living on past glories i feel.

Hmm. Trading on past glories. Only one ale (GK IPA) and that's piss-warm. Current rating grossly inflated. I make this a two or three at best.

The repositioning of the bar gives this place less of a dour feel than it used to have. Three handpumps all displaying GK IPA - and no one around drinking it, so went for the Kronenbourg. It was relatively busy on this Saturday evening visit and although there was no proper ale (think I can GK IPA to the list of not proper) and the music (in particular the base) was unnecessarily loud in the front bar (if they just aimed it to the back where the pool tables are then people in the front could talk to each other without shouting) the different ethnic mix of this pub seemed to work where others fail. Still nowhere near the rating it has but it is the only pub in West Hendon.

Afraid I think the average rating for this place (8.8 as I review this) is an overestimate by about 3 marks. This isn't a great area for pubs (to say the least) but the Midland Hotel is pretty unremarkable. It's located high above the M1 next to Hendon railway station. There's a pleasant and airy front bar and a darker pool room at the back. The pub advertises itself as a GK house, and a poster by the door advertises various GK ales, but all three handpumps were disused when I happened by - whether a temporary glitch or not, that's not really good enough for a GK pub. The landlord seemed friendly enough but ultimately I'd only visit this boozer again if I needed to kill time waiting for a train.

I agree. This is one of the better pubs in Hendon alongside the new and improved White Bear on the burroughs. For a good night out in the area, these are the best two bars in town. I like to start in one and finish in the other depending on the weather! good atmosphere and drinks.

This is a great pub with a DJ and late license on Friday and Saturday nights. The landlord is truly lovely and very helpful. The food is really nice and we were advised if there was something we fancied to eat that wasn't on the menu, to come into the pub the day before we wanted to come in for dinner and tell the chef who would get the ingredients and cook it especially for us - how's that for service?!! Decor is understated but nicely done, and there are loads of tables so you rarely have to stand (which is good when you have a penchant for wearing heels). Although the wine list is a little limited, I found the white very drinkable (Venetian Pinot Grigio) and it was reasonably priced. I even took a bottle home at the end of the evening and the landlord refused to charge me the normal pub price for it. I feel very lucky to have this pub as my local.

Small, quiet, smokey, burger menuing, pool tabled establishment with varied choice of wine... yes, its either red or white, love.

I recently started drinking here - what a great place! The food is fantastic - restaurant quality. Just found out they won't be showing SKY sports anymore - which is good news for the ladies! Happy that there is finally a decent place in Hendon with a bit of class.

a real pub. ales from greene king and it's subsidaries . not the the greatest of ale breweries, but all of the surrounding suburbs are very asian and irish, getting the over-flow from cricklewood, so the pubs are all guiness-focused and keg only, apart from the odd wetherspoons..........great .
