Our walking group have been visiting Sussex pubs every Thursday and Sunday for about 8 years. This pub stands head and shoulders over all the others as being the most unwelcoming, unfriendly and unhelpful. Even though we visited it after an 11 mile walk on THE hottest day of the year (32deg) some of our group wouldn't even drink in there let alone eat.
We simply can't understand why anyone would want to go in here a second time. Perhaps the landlady is related to Basil Fawlty?

Stumbled upon this lovely pub. It's fairly out of the way but definitely worth a visit. Will certainly make a detour past the Blackboys from now on.
Excellent menu and excellent food with something for everyone. Not your ordinary pub grub! Brilliant atmosphere with lots of happy faces, dogs and children welcome. The staff are also friendly and attentive.
Original features including a beautiful inglenook fireplace. With a well kept beer garden and tables out the front to watch the goings on.
Last tip, try the venison! Best I've ever tasted! And boyfriend said the Harveys was lovely too.

Lovely country pub in a lovely village. Good ale, good food and friendly staff. I was focused totally on the Harvey's Old Ale, which was very well kept. They do Harvey's Sussex as well and at least one more but I didn't notice what that was.

The food is simple pub fare at a reasonable price. Nothing spectacular but perfectly good for the price.

Dogs and sprogs are allowed. Why do some parents think it's OK for their offspring to spead most of their lunch over the floor??

If you come here on a Sunday in September (can't remember which one) the pub hosts a steam rally when the village is taken over by steam engines, classic cars and bikes and lots of people. Very busy but a good event.

Wonderful country pub, with really lovely well presented food in an unfussy, friendly atmosphere. The food just gets better every time we go! My husband says they serve the best pint of Harveys you will ever drink - it's consistently good.
You can sit out front to watch the world go by, chat to the locals, sit in the pretty garden out the back and bring your dog! Great dog walks all round.

We went to this pub last sunday and the service was terrible. We had a 3 course meal and in total it took us 3 hours. took 1.5hrs for the main course to come out.
Also the starters had a hair in it. All the portions were small aswell.
When we asked about why there was a delay they said it was because a lot of people were ordering food. The restaurant was empty and there were about 4 tables in the garden.
I stood at the bar waiting to get served and the waitress came over and said 'did you want to say something' which isn't very polite or professional at all.
We didn't get a discount for the hair or the wait and the portions were small and cold.
Needless to say - we wont be going back in a hurry.

This pub depends very much on when you visit. When it's busy it is very good, especially in summer as there's a large garden at the rear and also plenty of room to spill on to the quiet road in front. The location is excellent. However it can be deadly quiet, particularly in winter. Then you need to take a paper or a friend. There's a traction engine rally here one sunday each September.

Harveys Sussex and Bass on draught. There's sometimes a third ale on, maybe from the 1648 Brewery in nearby Easy Hoathly (summer) or Harveys Old (winter). The blackboard menu is available in both the bar and the restaurant.

Popped in for a swift pint one Sunday afternoon. Thought it very pleasant.

It stocks Harveys which is about the only positive thing you can say about it

...Not be confused with "The Star" in nearby Old Heathfield. Characterful pub in the heart of this attractive village. Real Ales including Harveys.
