At 3.35 for a pint of Taylor's Landlord, I will be giving it a miss on my next visit to the Wheelton area.

I have made a number of visits to this pub for many years, going back a long way. Sometimes once a years, sometimes several visits a years. In all the years I have never had anyting put good service, beer and food. I cannot fault the place. I'd rather pay a bit more for quality ad comfort anyday, its not that overpriced as suggested by previous posters.

I'm surprised by some of the comments on this pub. The service is very friendly and they also seem to regularly serve up a good pint, with a fair choice of ales.

As to the food, the portions are generous - usually I find starter + main is too much - and I've always enjoyed my meals. I'm a picky eater too, I won't just eat anything. The prices, though not dirt cheap, are not the dearest in the area and I think reasonable value for money.

By the way, i don't own this pub, I'm just a punter.

Fantastic pub. Went with Michala and Jack for sunday roast 7th November 10.
Great value and great food. Venue was warm and frendly with a great atmosphere. No snooty types just nice frendly people. We have been before on numerous occations and I am glad to say has maintained its first class level. My name is Andy and I look forward to another visit soon.

Good (but overpriced) beer. Frequented by lawyers who, before the yuppy era, would probably have been gamekeepers.

Large, pleasant pub on the edge of the village. It has a fine aspect, with an enviable front garden.
Inside, a good deal of character has been retained, with low ceilings throughout the myriad of largish rooms. A more modern area with pool, a jukebox and a TV can be found at the top of the pub, overlooking the garden.
Lower down, a main bar room has several smaller rooms leading off from it, all traditionally furnished.
A considerable food operation is in place, but not at the expense of drinkers, and the pub retains a vilalge local feel.
The beer range is impressive, with 8 pumps dispensing mostly local beers and a real cider. On my visit were Bank Top Bitter, Three B's bitter, Allgates California, the house beer Milk of Amnesia, Tetley bitter, Black Sheep and a couple more which escape me. All sampled were in good condition and quite reasonably priced. The pub has been in the GBg in recent years but isn't in this year's- not sure why.
All in all a fine pub and definitely worth a visit.

The food is terrible. I ordered veg soup which was like cold porridge and a Lancashire hotpot which was again cold and instead of potatoes as you would expect, was covered with a solid circle of pastry resembling a digestive biscuit. Its a massive shame because this pub could great if run properly.

First-time visitor from the South. Found a great selection of beers and the food was fine. However, I do think the beers were being served too cool. Prices seemed reasonable (for a southerner). Overall, I would go back again

Still no sign of landlord serving, same old snooty types at the crowded bar (altho better now thanks to the smoking ban), very expensive and certainly better service and value elsewhere.

A comfortable country pub. There is an excellent food menu plus specials which is generally good value for money. The drinks are expensive - Phoenix Arizona at 2.60 per pint recently and the prices seeming to vary according to rarity value rather than gravity! - but there is generally a good selection and in pretty good condition (if sometimes served a bit on the cold side). The bar can get smoky and the crowd gathered around it are often noisy (in a showy sort of way). However there is a pleasant front drinking area with large cover and screens and lots of flowers so why not drink outside.

This pub must now have a new chef,as the food is superb. The beer quality is excellent-especially the Big Frank's;which used to be made on the premises, but is still good whoever is brewing it.They also have a roaring fire in winter, friendly staff and locals. A bloody good pub, even though I've never seen the landlord serve a drink in all the years I've been going.

found this pub to have an excellent selection of cask beers, and although slightly pricey, it is worth it as are kept in excellent condition. Nice to be offered to try a sample before buying! I had a chicken and bacon baguette which was superb (for bar food) - and dog was offered schmacko AND water by barmaid!!

Found it extremely pleasant a couple of years back - beer was great. The pub over the road by the canal (forget the name) is great and does lovely Indian food).

Very smoky bar, unfriendly staff, cliquey regulars. Real Ale, but very expensive (2.50-2.60 guest beers). No longer brews on premises.

One of the oldest and best pubs in Lancashire. Built originally to quench the thirst of local slate dressers, The Dressers Arms serves great food, has a wide selection of bitters and Largers. The is a microbrewery on the premesis which produces the Dresser's legendery Big Frank's bitter. The atmosphere is friendly and intimate. Popular with folk from all over the Red Rose county.
