Looking for the finest pub in Leek and after a couple of false starts (Black Swan had all the real ale pumps turned around. Bird in Hand had some very strange music blasting away), I came to the red lion.
Classy interior. Four real ales - two from Hydes brewery. They let me have a sample of the Crown Golden and it was superb. Then I was equally surprised by the low price - £2.80.
Excellent place.

Called in while looking for real ale pubs in Leek, and enjoyed a Hydes original bitter. Only one ale on and was hoping to find one of their seasonal guests.

I am a regular visitor to Stoke and Leek from London and aim to frequent the Red Lion whenever time allows.
For since stumbling upon it in April 2005 - with its big-screen, function rooms (?) upstairs, great food (the homemade ketchup is a must) and friendly service - this pub has been the focal point of my planned CROYDON school reunions! (my peers have fanned out a bit since 1981).

Nice pub, by far the best in Leek (although that's not saying much). Thursday nights always well worth a look, there's been some great bands playing lately. Friday and Saturday nights also a good laugh. Staff always very polite, highly recommended!

I tend to always come in here at some point when im out in Leek. The food is great (When served in a decent time) and the atmosphere of the pub is great. However the staff some of them (one young girl inparicular) has such an attitude problem. Thinks she owns the bar when i think she has been working there for a month or two at the most!! One of the door staff is a complete and utter pratt. If you drink here you will know which one i mean!! Other than that really good especially on a Thursday. As like any pub occaisionally ID needs to be asked whther you think they look old enough or not. Also dont be fooled people do actually get away with using their relatives or friends ID.
