McMullens branded bar for the younger crowd. Visited on a Saturday night and the first bad sign was the three bouncers on the door. Inside it was pretty cavernous, and extremely busy. I never got far enough into the venue to notice that there were actually three ales on handpump - presumably McMullens ales. Crowd was predominantly young and dressed up, but there were a few old blokes (us included). Probably more palatable to the oldies during the week when it's less crowded. Not really a pub - more a bar. Don't bother with this place unless you're aged 21-35.

Really nice place. Clean, comfortable and genuinely friendly staff. By far the best place to go in Hertford if you want a pleasant, grown up lunch or night out.
|
This place seems to be Hertfords answer to All Bar One, but being in Hertford it is obligatory for them to have a couple of ale offerings from McMullens.
This is one for the younger crowd who wouldnt be seen dead playing darts and eating a packet of pork scratchings in a proper pub.

I do not live in the area but have visited this pub on the past two occasions I have been in the area. My visits have been during the day and overall I have been happy. The food maybe a bit on the pricey side but its of good quality and service has always been quick. The place is clean and seems well run. I'll probably visit again.

over priced and definatly over rated. this place things they are the big i am in hertford when they are definatly the worst place to go if u want freindly staff, lovely atmosphere and a good evening with freinds
|
Just awful.
|
by far the best place in Hertford and it's surrounding area. The staff are friendly, attentive and look happy. The food is good and there it's always nice and clean inside.
|
Gaudy, noisy, overcrowded and over-hyped. Hertford's answer to Blackpool.
|
This place is a total hovel.
|
Over rated, over priced. Unbelievably people queue out the door to get into this place on Fri - Sat night. Says a lot about the other 'bar/club' places in Hertford. You also have to be over 35 to get in. Bar staff pretty unfriendly and food not great. Menu drab at best.

Baroosh is absolute rubbish!
The drinks are overpriced - I can forgive someone paying Westminster business rates for charging me 3 for a beer, but not in Hertford... The clientele are barely tolerable, their chortles and guffaws between bursts of banal conversation make your ears want to bleed. It looked like everyone was pretending they were a WAG or footy player, and the atmosphere was one of a nothingness I've not encountered to such an extent before.
I'd recommend that you give this place a wide berth. Absolute sh*te...

I liked this place. Clean and comfortable, nice staff too.

i think the place must be ok if it stops someone calling themselves the Sherminator going in. 3+ a pint is the norm now, big deal. Stay at home if you want Im off to get me a footballers wife!

I think it is clear to anyone who ever visited the pub that the last three entries were written by people with connections to the pub. It epitomises everything bad about modern England, 3.20 for a Guinness, full of footballers wives types and souless. It is a bad sign of Hertford that there is a queue outside this place at nine o clock. If you are visiting the town I can genuinely tell you that this place is awful. A real London wannabe. Avoid at all costs.

A lovely venue with high standards and great wine. Their Shiraz is a must try!

My wife and I visited Baroosh last Thursday after it was recommended to us by a friend. The bar was very clean and the service was excellent. They were advertising their new menu and I must say the food we had was delicious. I had the Salmon Fishcakes with a stir fried rice, and my Wife had the Goat's Cheese and butternut squash salad. It was very tasty food in a very nice bar indeed. We shall certainly visit again on our next trip into Hertford.

EXCELLENT. in a world where most customers are simply proccessed, baroosh offers a relaxed, informal yet high quality level of service, food and wine. Aboslutely unpretentious throughout. Although some people have critisized it for being 'too stlyish' the decor is open, light and inviting. It is also 100% SMOKE FREE! very brave to do before July. It doesnt matter where you go there will always be cutomers who think they are something special and the bar cannot be critisized for those who choose to socialise there. The price may seem steep if you spend most of your time in back street boozers but i would rather spend a few pennies more for a drink and enjoy a smoke free environment that isn't filled with lots of teenage prats getting 'lagered up'. WELL DONE BAROOSH!

Dire. A mile up its own you know what. Terrible Guinness and very expensive.
|
Baroosh is an odd place, its full of "beautiful" people, for the most part, but what it does lack is any real atmosphere. The drinks are priced at west end levels, and the food leaves alot to be desired.
It is little more than a west end wannabe bar that serves many people who also fall into that category.

Thought i'd try to resdress the balance a little as i think this venue has been treated rather harshly... it's a town centre pub in the middle of Hertford trying to cater to the 'All Bar One' crowd and barring my experience of the food,(not that good) it's doing a good job. Always has a lively atmosphere even on Sundays and is a good venue if you're in the mood for that kind of thing!!

This place is a bar. All these reviews saying bad this and bad that. Take a step back. If you visit a bar then you expect expense.
Positives - a good crowd, beautiful people, all ages.
Negatives - none
Get there and enjoy the best pub for all age groups in Hertford.
|
A very sanitised and expensive experience - relocate it to Islington where it belongs!
|
Get Thursday nights going wiv guest and resident dj's playing nothing but the best in funky house so to make it a relaxing but a funky good atmosphere!
|
This place gets worse every time we go
|
The food in this place is Crap! i ordered a beef burger, 1st it was stone cold with under cooked chips then when i asked a mamber of staff to change it all i got was a grunt and waited another 20 minutes for is to come back out and it tasted like it had been microwaved! Bad staff, Bad Food, Bad experiance! not coming back!

My god. This bar is awful, avoid!! Where do i start. If you are under 27 and male, you get ignored by the bar staff. I had people standing around not doing anything but ignoring me. A girl came along and they served her?! Moody people, i think the only time i saw someone smile was when they saw their reflection. They think they are upper class despite the prices are the same as any other local pub and this is the only place where 35+ men and women dress like 21 year olds and think its ok! They also have the nerve to look down on you. Absolute sh!t hole with fake people, crap staff and no atmosphere. Do not waste your time!!!

Thursday nights are great in Baroosh. Age range varies from 21 through to 50 (and older !). Not over crowded, and music at the right level. Drinks are not overly expensive (slightly higher prices are designed to keep out the riff-raff), and they serve a decent vodka (Smirnoff Blue). Have been doing Thursday nights there for about four years, and there's nowhere better within 20 miles.

This place is like agoldfish bowl, to crowded, over priced and full of meadalion men. Wine quality is poor and so is the music. 4/10

Baroosh is certainly not full of the young, it's over 21's & I am cnstantly getting asked for ID when I go go there & I am 25.... Nice place.Very busy at the weekends. Plays strange old school dancy music which probably attracts the older crowd. Not a great selection of popular drinks but lots of foreign beers.Nice staff, not a bad place at all.

Eccellent food, excellent place to go...

In the day its ok - fairly quiet and good service. Food is actually ok and a little different from typical pub grub and not hugely overpriced (unlike the drinks). In the evening its a different matter. Usually a queue. And yes it is full of the young and restless way too many girls brandishing their Gucci and Louis V hand bags (and like the clientele 99% are fake wannabes). Lots of boys with their over styled messy look hair, shirts and shoes with buckles on.
Abit - 18 Aug 2004 12:10 |
Full of wannabe ponces who think that wearing Versache/karen millen makes them 'cool'. Don't bother trying to pull, the drinks are so expensive, any girl will accept a drink then sod off on you. Can't believe people queue to get in!
Christian - 11 Aug 2004 09:56 |
Nice relaxing place to chat and drink during the day, forget it at night on the weekends. I'll never queue to get into a pub !!! Don't go there for the beer either...
stan - 5 Aug 2004 08:54 |
This is a goldfish bowl for people who want to prance about with MEDALION men. The clientelle are very pretentious, the beer and food mediocre. 2.5/10
Alan - 21 Jul 2004 16:36 |
best bar? celebrity hang out? what planet are you on? if you fancy gurning sniffing young men in their button down shirts downing dirty beer like no tomorrow then this is your place. there is even a queue to get in at weekends. oh dear.
