Bar 38, Portsmouthback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Desperately bad, dreadful tasteless lager, 80% men to 20% women, terrible music, a reminder of why it hasn't been on the "must go there for a drink" list for about 10 years !

The sort of establishment that benefits when it's evening and the lights are very low. It's got no soul and provides nothing that any other disco-pub can't do just as well.
Decent selection of cocktails at a reasonable price, especially when Happy Hour is on. Usual over-chilled lagers and bitters for those that don't like to be able to taste what they've bought, but feel confortable with a speciality shaped glass. No real ale.
Decent enough DJ and small dance floor away from the entrance allows those that are inclind to strut their stuff. Toilets upstairs, although there is a disabled facility on the ground floor. The upstairs loos sport an unusual unisex handwash fountain that's more of a gimmic than a clean place to wash your hands.
A good venue on the way to a more expensive night club if you want to get into the party spirit.

I have never really been able to have a good time in here ~ really not my scene and cause of its size, there always seem to be dirty glasses everywhere.
Not my scene at all

Have to agree with H-Files here! The toilets have a communel fountain handwash thingy!

I have been a few times since August and I haven't been charged for entry at all. Their cocktails are really cool..and their Monday nights are 1.50 per drinks. Shots were a 1!

Nice bar, but (like all of gunwharf) very overpriced (and no, your not 'paying for the surrowndings") Great communal hand washer in the toilets upstairs - you'll know what I mean!
Expensive, but they do have enough staff behind the bar, whoom are all happy.
*recenty started to charge an entrance fee (!!!!)) DO NOT PAY- this is just a money grabbing idea, for no benifit. If this suceeds, ALL the bars have said they will charge, to the drinking detriment and freedom of movement to us all. If they ask you to pay, go elsewhere- plenty of other excellent bars nearby that do NOT charge...

Like the Bar Ha Ha nearby, this is a great place to have a drink or two before moving onto Tiger Tiger on a Friday or Saturday night. Can get quite packed downstairs on a Saturday night, but there has always been a vibrant atmosphere when I have been here. There is female talent on show and therefore potential 'H-File' candidates!! A visit to Bar 38 helps to set the foundation for what is usually a quality night out in Gunwharf Quays.

great place on a saturday night. the DJ looks like Harry Hill.
