Originally the George IV, this pub is now called Whelans and looks decidedly closed.

I've been trying to figure out whether the Lark in the Park is still open. The number here goes through to someone who's never heard of them and their website has been taken over by their chef, so I'm guessing it's died a death.

Knowing London, it's probably been turned in to apartments.

I went there to see Mayhem Deranged last Sunday. There are two rooms, both reasonably-sized, and a concrete beer garden. The beers on tap are uninspiring, but avoid those and drink the Pitfield Organic from the fridge - both bitter and lager. The staff seemed quite friendly when I was there.
The pub is a bit out-of-the-way - I had to walk for about 10 minutes from Angel tube station.

Relaxed sort of pub, no bitter on pump but there is Pitfield Bitter and Eco Warrior in bottles. Does live music and comedy nights and seems to have some connection with the local Greek community. But giggers beware, the stage is tiny and the pub is an odd shape - half cut in half as though there had once been two bars and they were semi knocked through into one. (There may be also people in the audience talking loudly and ignoring you, but that happens all over the place). The extension area at the back may be bland but gives the place (formerly the George IV I believe) much needed extra space.
As to the area being 'rough' I left at 10 pm and it was not a trouble, despite being close to the Caledonian Road.

I have never, ever encountered such needlessly rude staff in my entire life. Avoid.

I live round the corner from this place and didn't know it existed! Even so, the equivalent of Beirut?! This is steps away from Barnsbury - one of the nicest looking places to live in North London!

No real ale, and in a somewhat dodgy part of town (if you cycle, don't even think about leaving your bike chained up outside); but this pub does have a very pleasant laid back atmosphere. Has a nice beer garden out the back. Not worth going miles out of your way for, but if you happen to be on the lower stretches of Caledonian Road, pop in for a few.

An ok pub, and friendly. I once saw in here grown men and women break-dancing on a bit of lido taped to the floor. Whats that about? Oh, and it is in the north London equivilent of Beiruit, so when you leave at 11pm its not a pleasent experience, to say the least.

Not a fan. Food awful, beer not too far behind.

It's a dump in the middle of a dump. BBQ food? not really. More a man cooking frozen stuff on a griddle. 5 to get in. I think thats to keep you in once you've seen what it's like. I won't be back.

A bit scruffy, but very friendly staff. There were some truly dreadful sea shanties being sung the night I was there. I haven't laughed so much in weeks. Long may it continue!

Not a bad pub but you need to get a taxi home as it's in a horrible area!

Beer's not bad and priced well.

The Lark in the Park is an independent run bar situated on Barnard Park, Islington, with a fantastic seater beer garden and late night license. The conservatory is a restaurant area serving excellent food. Plus there are two big screen tvs for all your sporting needs.

It's a hidden Islington gem with the beer garden, crushed leather sofas (natch!), cocktails and some parking. All only 5 mins from Angel and Kings Cross tubes.
