Excellent session last weekend - pub unchanged in the few years since my last visit, and they continue to serve a fine selection of Dutch beers. Difficult to leave!
@Tosh thank heavens it DOES open at 1600! Any earlier would be potentially dangerous hehe :)
In seriousness, you can combine the late opening of this bar with the early closing of the IJ proeflokaal to create a fabulous all-Dutch beer crawl.

Excellent pub, which boasts a large selection of Dutch draft beers and bottles. Their house beer was very tasty as well. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and spent as much time with patrons as they needed. Cafe 't Arendsnest also had a good amount of cheese to munch your way through as you drink.
Sadly, I was only able to have a few beers in there because I had a dinner reservation. I went back the next day, but beware - it doesn't open until 1600! Maybe next time...

As the snow and cold rain continue pouring down here in the Arctic, I'm looking back with enjoyment to a warm summer afternoon in late June last year sitting by the canal just outside this magnificent cafe. I still remember the delicious taste of D'n Schele Os Dubbel, a dark and bittersweet beer from Maasland Bouwerij. Very helpful barstaff who guided me to some the great Dutch ales. Added value to this biercaf� for the lovely outdoor seating by the canal. What a place and how I long to come back!

I have to agree with the comments posted on this site as I was there again last weekend (8 and 9 October 05) and was treated to a feast of Dutch beers, both on draught and in bottles.

Absolutely superb. I visited again last Thursday (17/03/05) and was invited to an exclusive beer-tasting on 19/03/05 for P.I.N.T. members (Dutch Camra). This is an establishment run by professionals for the serious beer drinker, and I would like to thank everyone involved in the beer-tasting session for the enjoyable time I had - indeed one of the highlights of my trip to Amsterdam.

An excellent, beer-oriented pub on the Herengracht canal, featuring 100% Dutch beers. This is an essential part of any beer crawl in Amsterdam.
The staff are very friendly, fully and technically conversant in English, and the pub boasts one of the biggest Dutch beer ranges in the city.
I had a great time sitting at the bar chatting with staff and locals on my visit of 25th April 2004, and would recommend this place to any serious beer drinker.
