I can't quite put my finger on what is wrong with this pub - maybe nothing at all. It is clean, pleasant and well-stocked, with decent beer selection and friendly efficient bar staff. It's just a bit ... dead. I would say that if the interior decor was less black-paint-chic, it might attract more people, and get a better atmosphere. Overall though, a perfectly pleasant boozer.

Atnos free, always been emptyish though when I've been in. Beer reasonable though. Cocktails an indifferent afterthought. It sister pub, the Dark Horse in Camberwell was streets ahead of it, but now that's becoming a replica of the soullessness of the this place

Decent pub with little real competition in the immediate area.
Interior and patio area are comfortable and recently refurbished. Good sports coverage. Food is mediocre during the week yet strangely far improved on a Sunday. Beer selection lets this place down somewhat; the usual Stella, Fosters, Carlsberg lager-axis plus John Smiths and Guinness.

I'm new to the area and visited this pub for the first time today. The photo on display is old as we sat outside on some great decking surrounded by plants and bamboo drinking ice cold lager in the beautiful sunshine. They also have a Happy Hour here or a happy couple of hours as we seemed to neck 2 for 1 cocktails for ages. Fun and Friendly staff, food looked good and they had the cricket on. I've found a new local.

words fail me regarding the food in this pub.. After waiting 40 minutes for a 'vegtable tower' I was surprised when the plate presented to me had a total of 3 slices of corgette, 1 slice of raw onion, 2 slices of raw aubergine and a tiny bit of goats cheese. The cost of this extravaganza was 7.95. I have never felt inclined to wite and complain about anything before but this was the worst meal I have ever had.

Been in here a few times. Not really for me it just seems to be lacking that something.
For me a pub is about the people that drink there and obviously the beer (although I'm a stella guy - read into that what you will)
Has to be said that the one Sunday quiz we entered was a hoot. Free grub for the teams, now thats what I call an incentive.
Haven't been in here for about a year.

This is by far the best bar in Camberwell. Whoever owns this bar is doing a very good job indeed! Clean, good food, well kept beers and professional staff

This is a really good bar. Its spacious and airy and offers an excellent selection of drinks. I really like its diversity in that it caters for so many different crowds but always maintains a good, friendly atmosphere. You can go in there on a weeknight and watch the footy and then go back in on a weekend and listen to some funky live jazz, or have a lazy Sunday afternoon there with a couple of beers and a fantastic Sunday roast.
Cant really rate this place enough, there is definitely nothing in the local area that even comes close to being as good.

I like the logo. Can I say that? It makes you think that it will be trendier than it is. In fact there is nothing very trendy about it. It has no real ale, so it is strictly lager and Guinness as far as I am concerned. The inevitably foreign barmaids were smiling and pleasant, which makes a change, and it has the added bonus of staying open until midnight when most other pubs in the area are closed. I wouldn't mind coming here more often, except that if I'm going to drink Stella, I may as well get a can and sit in the garden. Come to think of it, I enjoyed the music, which was non-obvious reggae, so I suppose you know that you are approaching Camberwell and that Brixton is down the road. It's not exactly the frontline, though.

Good pub - has adequate range of bar snacks and standard pub selection of beers and wines. Cocktails are good and 2 for 1 offers especially good! Food was standard pub snacks - nachos, salads, dips etc. Friendly and prompt service too
|
Yeah not bad - certainly better than the other pubs in the area -the Hanover Arms/ Greyhound anyone?- and good range of standard beers etc
|
Decent decor and the outside area looks good but the food's not great - had brunch here serveral times and found it disappointing. Also would be nice not to have to listen to thumping dance music first thing in the day - wish bars would play music appropriate to clientele rather than what the bar staff want to hear (or what some anonymous suit at the brewry playlisted without ever having spent time in the pub)

This is my local, though I dont enjoy going there as much as i used too. Live football draws in slightly yobbish crowds esp. on football wednesdays, and it gets pretty busy.
So far on two seperate occasions it has taken over 10 mins to get a mojito, would not really dare ordering it for a 3rd time, the thing is it wasnt even busy at the bar!Has anyone had the same problem or it is just me? If so i think they should just take it off the cocktail menu, as its pretty ridiculous to wait so long.

More Oval than Camberwell location-wise I'd say.
Nice bar/pub with good range of beers and other drinks. specially pleasant to sit outside on the decking on a warm spring/summer evening and watch the world go by
|
Nice pub, called here after the cricket on a hot day and enjoyed a few cold lagers.
|
Best burgers and bar staff in London. And everything else is pretty good too.

Come and see the very excellent Brute Choir here on Friday 14th October 2005. Classic and Modern covers with a brutish edge!

I had walked past this pub and decided it was well worth a visit, the seats outside looked very inviting on a hot summers day. I turned up on a sunday lunchtime at 12, expecting that it might get busy and I'd need to be there early to get a good seat. Unfortunately, I soon discovered that they didn't have any bitter on. The food was good and the wine list was perfectly adequate, but I couldn't help thinking (like I often do when i'm in a London pub) that a pub with no beer is like a library with no books. I was wrong about the pub being busy too, there was only one other dining party that lunchtime.

Despite living in the area and having been here before - in fact spending a good New Year's Eve here one year - haven't been for a while. Went last night and was pleased to see is still really good. Now has a pleasant decked outside area which - despite the vista of the lovely Camberwell New Road and Aylesbury Estate - is actually quite pleasant on a balmy summer's evening. As always a friendly bar staff and reasonable prices help - and of course the fact it stands out in the area as a nice place to go to!

This is an excellent pub, when you think of pubs in the Camberwell Oval area you would not expect to find a place like this, this is a west end style bar without the pretentiousness or the extortionate prices. The beer is cold, the bar staff are friendly and the food is excellent and varied.
|
This is a great bar in an area that is getting better and better for going out. It has an excellent Saturday night and Sunday lunchtime and is good all week. Excellent wine selection and friendly bar staff. Highly recommneded.
|
Great; just about only choice in the area if one doesnt want to go to Camberwell Green area or Fentiman Road/ Albert Square pubs

My lunch time stop, a great place in comparison to everything else around. Freindly and great drinks and food. Its always cold though and mostly work groups so rather cliquey, and rubbish music played too loud.
|
Not a bad spot. Has some of the best staff in the area. Like no other bar in Camberwell!!!!
