The 3rd place to have a beer in the village and the 2nd proper pub as you head out towards Kendall.
Eclectic mix of bits and bobs dotted around the pub including a wall of mirrors on the right as you enter.
5 pumps dispensing all local ales, I went for a pint of Bathgate's Breweries Cat Nap @ 3.6%
A friendly and attentive barman welcomed us as we enter and then answer's my questions regarding the signed football shirts that hang in the back area towards the toilets.
Large open fireplace in the front bar. Lots of space for diners dotted around, various glass cabinets selling silver, glass and china add to the charm.
Food served from 6pm in the evening and from this time the place was filling up nicely.
Opposite the pub is a large beer garden with a stream running through it.
Very handy for the bus to Lancaster and Keswick as the stops are outside the pub.

A great pub, well worth its acclaim in many beer and pub guides! Well kept cask ales at reasonable prices and decent food on the lunch �5 menu. Well worth a special visit.

Very enjoyable pub I've wanted to visit for years. Beer (quality and sensible range) was very good, even if Hawkshead Bitter not as great as I remember from 2003. Food not exceptional either, but at �5 not surprising and filling. Pub itself is fantastic. Lots of tourists (like me !).

Character pub at the end of this pleasant village and near the river. It has a quirky layout, with the one long room hugging the bar but with various subsections, including a curious conservatory-type area.Pots and pans adorn the walls, alongside some rather fruity mock Victorian medicinal advertisements. The food here is well regarded but I didn't try any. A roaring fire added to the atmosphere.
The beer selection was very strong, featuring beers from many fine Lakeland Brewers- 2 Hawkshead beers plus Loweswater Gold, Coniston Bluebird and a couple of others. Had the Loweswater and the Coniston, both fine pints.
Really enjoyed it here, alongside the Hawkshead brewery hall- the antithesis in terms of atmosphere but both with their charms. Would certainly return.

I lived in Staveley for a while and enjoyed having this pub as my local. Still visit every month or so for an evening meal and a few beers. Beer quality is superb and the food is well worth trying. Sitting by the river on a summers evening supping a few pints with friends is one of lifes great pleasures.

Had a right soaking in the rain whilst walking from Kendal to Staveley. Found this pub, dried out by the fire with a couple of good pints from local breweries, and enjoyed a good-value bar snack. Well worth seeking out (and easily accessible by public transport).

I am not impressed with the customer service at this pub. I emailed them 5 days before we intended calling to book a table. The reply stated it would be OK as long as we were there early doors, but he would not book us a table.
Our group (6 adults & 2 10 yr olds went here yesterday. When asked if we could have a table for 8, we got the reply, "can you see one?" There were half a dozen tables withy "reserved" notices on them for 2 hours later, but no other tables available.
Very unhelpful - so we left (making no purchase whatsoever) and phoned up the The Station pub at Oxenholme, who were fantastic. I'm afraid the Eagle has lost our custom forever

Nearly missed this one, but walked down from the Hawkshead tap before catching the bus, and it is a real pub. Hadn't a lot of time, but enjoyed a Keswick beer.

A great pub, tucked away from the bypass, but definately worth a stop. Four real ales on tap, good food and an atmosphere that's quite unique, especially when candlelit, as it is after dark. If you're heading into the Lake District, give yourself a treat and come off the Staveley bypass for this one!

Glad to see this is still s great pub. I went in whilst on the Dalesway , it's a gem of a pub. Definately worth a detour to go to.

when pubs where proper pubs this is what what proper pubs used to be like and occasionally still (and preferably) are, despite what mr chain pub likes to tell us. so, mr landlord please, make mine a foaming stoop of real ale brewed from brakish waters filtered by the peat of the moors - and i'll make yours a perfect TEN.

Paid a visit here with a large group last Sat for a mate's birthday - ale was good and food was good also. The place was quite busy when we entered (which is usually a good sign) and it didn't disappoint.

Now one of the best pubs in the lake district. Excellent locally produced food though its worth reserving a table on the weekend as its pretty busy. A fine selection of local brewerry beer which constantly changes and regular beer festivals.
They have nice garden by the river for summer drinking as well. All in all a real gem.

Good food and well kept cask ales. This pub is comfortable, homely and old fashioned with lots of interesting adornments without being contrived. They often do weekend beer festivals in their lovely riverside beer garden with a barbecue, a really good afternoon out.

This is a very pleasant, relaxed and informal pub. The real fire, comfy chairs in the bay windows and mixture of large and small tables verges on the gently shabby rather than the brutally neat but this adds to the atmosphere. On dark evenings it is mainly - and delightfully - lit by candles. There are four or so well kept changing local beers. The food is good, again in a generous and fairly simple style rather than formal and elaborate. It is my favourite pub in this corner of the Park and these days eclipses the nearby Watermill at Ings.
