Holt's pub with a nice, traditional interior. Bar staff looked at me with suspicion, as I was clearly a regular. The question "Can I help?" was asked, rather than "Hello, what would you like?". Maybe I should have said, "yes you can hand me all your money" and that would have satisfied expectations! Holt's Bitter was on, plus Runway To Holts. A band was getting ready for a performance. But this pub was much quieter than other pubs in the town. Maybe a more friendly welcome from the staff would encourage more trade.

Guess who was in last time I went...Answer, Me!!!
Zero Atmosphere and Zero Customers, this is what happens when Punch make popular pub landlords pay more rent when they become successful.
|
Landlord moving down the road to the Boars Head and taking his memorabilia (and regulars) with him. Expect a manager in the short term

A very good pub with reasonable real ale and choice. Prices way too steep for a pub of this type in this area.
|
Had Hydes Boddingtons, an average jennings Bitter and Wadworths Bitter at a huge 2.40/pt. Disappointing for a GBG pub. Serves food now
|
Appears have slightly less choice of beer than it used to

I tried the (Hydes) Boddingtons here and it was absolutely fantastic - beer of the year so far. Nice to see it voted CAMRA Greater Manchester Pub of the Year, obviously beer quality is the key thing (though they do serve an interesting range. Very cosy as well.

This is a somewhat smokey and fairly small but friendly pub with a decent selection of cask beer in mostly good condition. I feel I am among their younger customers being in my 30s. The juke box has plenty to appeal to my age group. The Musketeer is a definite must-stop on a pub crawl of Leigh.

This is the last proper pub in the town of Leigh. It sells Theakstons Bitter, Boddingtons Bitter, Jennings Cumberland Ales, Tetley Mild all the time plus a guest beer. There is also a wide selection of 12 year, 15 year malt whiskies.
