By weekday, this slightly grubby looking boozer is bzzing to the sound of local office workers grabbing a lunchtime pintsandwich, Whilst this place is never going to be The Clarendon Hotel the quality is acceptable enough to warrant a lunch hour supping a pretty decently kept pint and trying the basic but reasonable fare that's served here.
Friday night however is a whole different ballgame with its bawdy clientel of regulars. I was told that there is never trouble in this pub since the latest landlord got on the scene and laid down the law. Nevertheless we felt there was an agressive undertone that left us feeling uncomfortable and out of place.
If i "worked at Cannons" I would lunch in the Angel too - but only because by the time I'd walked to Reigate town centre there would be no time for a pint before i had to head back again!
Went in there on Saturday.New Management, they seem decent enough. All the lights were on, the toilets didn't stink, the heating was on! Even better the glasses were clean and you could actually taste the beer. I hope they make a go of it and revive the pub to what it was like a few years ago. Never going to be a Great Pub, but for a local for all three estates in Woodhatch I hope it works out for the new couple.

I work in Esure in Reigate and, when people were asked where the company Christmas party should be, all 74 people said The Angel. In fact, we were lucky to get in to this Surrey oasis where the food is legendary.
Biggus 'went in (to The Angel) a few years back.' I went into a pub in Liverpool a few years back; I have no idea what its like now. Neither has Biggus - about The Angel !
The historic Angel is a Surrey Gem and an ideal spot for weddings and parties; we've already booked our Christmas party for 60; most other Canons departments are doing the same.
If its a few years since Biggus went in to The Angel, it would be difficult for him to know what the place is like ! OK, the outside is next for the ongoing refurbishment - but the hygiene, food quality and atmosphere is unrivalled in Surrey. Why else do Canons staff flock there daily ?
A 1Million refurb, dont make me laugh! The place is a dump, it looks like it is falling down, the windows look like they are falling out, & it doesnt matter what time you go past it looks shut! Its a great shame because it is one of those pubs that is a landmark in the area, but it would seem that the only way is down. Went in a few years back, wouldnt bother again.
I may have got it wrong, it looks shut, but if it has had 1m, inflation is worse than I thought. ishall visit next week, and chech it out.
Gutzeit(good time) says the Angel is closed; this is odd, as I was at my mate's wedding there last week. Service and food - were great. Mostly people from Canons, up the road; this is our local; it will never close - bearing in mind the recent 1m refurb.
The Angel, now closed....oh well
Biker me old china they are taking the mickey you clown

The Angel quiz night is great . Last week, a Canon's bloke was asked 'what's a valley between two mountains ?'. He didn't know and said 'pass'. 'Correct!' said the quizmaster and the bloke won a Trident missile. Surrey's smartest venue - although the caviar can taste a bit fishy.
This is where the Guinness is creamy, the G & T's are crisp and the Buck's Fizz chilled - with the coversation bordering on the intellectual. Perhaps, Surrey's finest ? Chopin was wafting through the atmosphere on my last visit and the girls from Canons were fragrant. A very historic venue, the Angel has become the Gatwick area social nucleus with frequent flying visits by film celebrities such as Lassie and The Mummy. In the fine beer garden, I recently spied a (very famous) orangoutang - TOPLESS !
The Angel is one of the oldest and finest pubs in Surrey. I work in the Accounts Dept. at Canons and we all visit this fine, clean and well run establishment regularly - for lunch and after work. Decor and service are great and the customers varied, friendly and well mannered. We had our best Christmas party ever there in December - and I am holding my wedding reception at The Angel in July. Are the other posters in the real world ?
It's criminal, this is one of the most historic pubs in Reigate and it has been allowed to be run down and cater for the rougher elements for a number of years. I went in once and was relieved to get out alive.
i work at canon uk and i assure you this pub does not recieve business from here!! or at least no-one i know. this pub is awful, i visited once and was gone within 10 seconds. the bar lady's face is an insult to any person and upon entering with two coloured friends there was a dead silence suggesting an air of racism. DO NOT GO HERE! the sooner it goes out of business the better...

My mate Marting got barred out of here for dancing about naked while very very very drunk. So you know what to do. Monsy flicked 10p in the urinals with all the other pennies and when he went back for his next visit it had gone!

Possibly the worst pub I have been in. 5pm and those in the pub are totally incoherent or gaga.

Twice before I've written about this dump and each time my comments have been removed by someone after a week. Believe me, it's not a nice pub.
apparently the only pub in the locality which is not in the pub watch scheme. Consequently it attracts all the scrotes that have been banned from every other pub. need I say more
Ironic name unless it refers to the Angel of Death. Lock up your first born sons!
Seriously though its not as scary as people would have you believe. Rumours that taxi's refuse to go here are wide of the mark and they have a thriving trade at lunchtimes from nearby Canon UK.

Papping one's pants is not just reserved for the lower classes, you know, as it is a function of inebriation as opposed to breeding. It's just one of those things that sometimes happens.
I quite like this pub - no-one could accuse it of being boring.

some kiddie got his nose broken with a bottle last week by one of the good conversationalists, not inside the pub though
anonymous - 25 Mar 2005 13:37 |
By drinkers does he mean down and outs? conversation, does he mean expletives? rough does he mean khazi? ask for the bar food advertised on the sign up on the wall, gets em every time. Loads of "drinkers" pubs in the area don't waste your time in this one. One of the clientelle actually messed himself while I was in here, choice

ONE OF THE LAST SURVIVING "DRINKERS" PUBS IN THE BOROUGH. A BIT ROUGH, BUT ALWAYS GUARANTEED A GOOD PINT AND GOOD CONVERSATION
