Upstairs is the Thai restaurant although you can also eat at the tables in the downstairs bar. I fancied a pint of draught Leffe but that wasn't on so it then became a question of what did they have (their world beer list on the blackboard needed updating). Eventually I settled on a bottle of Orval which didn't really pair that well with my excellent Moo Pad Prik Gang (no smirking). Cask ales were Oakham's Tranquility and JHB, Lacons Patriot and Black Panther (the local one not the Cambodian version). Small and somewhat quirky but worth a visit.

The Vine is a very strange place. It is tiny and primarily a Thai restaurant. But it also serves some interesting ales. On our visit yesterday, there was Oakham JHB & Car Thief & Baird Beer Maris Otter 50. The latter was a Japanese ale brewed to commemorate the 50th harvest of Maris Otter barley. Nethergate Red Santa was being pulled through. The Thai owners certainly don't seem to mind the real ale drinkers. In fact, they appear to positively encourage it. Whilst this can't make for a romantic atmosphere for those who are there for the food, I understand there is a downstairs too. Worth a visit.

Although the food is all Thai the beer choice and quality was good. We had one from Lincolnshire and one from Japan both on handpull. Can't get much more eclectic than that.

Pleasant enough, although more of a Thai restaurant than a pub.

My first pub when visiting Norwich for the Man City game, and really enjoyable experience (think I went years ago but don't recall the Thai). Thai looked pricy on the web-site, but lunch-time deals were better, and complemented a super dark beer from Fat Cat. Thai owner(?) was discussing beers with customers.

Yes indeed - a fine little pub (probably only holds around 30 people) but cheery and just off the market square and shops. Oakham JHB seems ot be their regular ale although there were another 3 available (we stuck with JHB and it's a pretty fine beer). Thai food smelt good as it wafted past us! The decor is more modern than you would possibly expect for a pub looking like this but so what it was very convivial!

Lovely little friendly place in central Norwich. Good small selection of beers on handpumps but also, in January, holding a beer festival with 12 barrels lined up against the wall. I was amazed how knowledgeable the wee Thai girl was, describing in detail the different styles of beer on offer! The Thai food upstairs is excellent as well - a brilliant place!

Excellent friendly pub just off the market square. There were 4 real ales on my visit and the thai food was very tasty.
|
Very pleasant friendly little pub that does great Thai cuisine. Although the beer range isn't extensive it's well worth a visit.

Early Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago, sat downstairs in the small bar where we were the only customers (seemed to be busier in the upstairs restaurant). Nice Thai meal, beer good but not exceptional. Worth including on a crawl of Norwich, as we did!
|
yea the thai's have done wonder keeping the feel of the old pub.
gd old boozer. 7/10

Thankfully reopened at the end of 2008 The Vine is now free of tie and offers 2 real ales (currently Wolf & Oakham) in great condition and excellent wine list and a superb Thai restaurant on the 1st floor. Once again highly recommended!

A great little boozer, met a couple of great guys in there, look out for them..The blade(!) and Gary..both mad!! Was made to feel welcome immediately by the staff and regulars. Wouldnt hesitate to go back there!

I LOVE this pub. A bit like trying to get twenty guys into a phone booth, but it serves beer! Great fun, the perfect place to start or end a night out.

Norwich's smallest pub. A very small room which used to be two even smaller rooms!
This place is a paradox. It was Norwich's first city centre bar to have continental-style pavement seating while inside sat the morning's night shelter evacuees. But that was a long time ago. You can still sit outside on a pedestrianised street watching the world go by and inside is full of interesting characters.
Busier during the day but good if you fancy a quiet pint (of Adnams) in the evening.
The place is haunted by the spectre of Dr Spacetoad. He's not dead but you keep getting this horrible feeling that he's just walked in with his guitar.
Turn up with a few friends and fill the place. Turn up on your own and leave with some new ones.
Doesn't do food but you can always have pie and peas in the market over the road.
