The ale is here is very well kept, but the service is abysmal. Was in here last Sunday, and waited 15 minutes.in the end, gave up and left.

A break from ticking the GBG with a stop at Wood Greens 'spoons.
My first visit here and being a Saturday afternoon I thought it would be a lot worse than it actually was.
Only a smattering of the local dredges but this was more than compensated for by the 2 friendly and effective bar staff.
10 hand pumps again offering 9 ales and 1 cider. I chose another seasonal offering this time in the shape of Titanic's Festive Thirty Five @ 5.0%. A very good beer.
Large purpose built pub , the decor is tasteful, there are tributes to the local Salvation Army and other images of the local area on the walls.
A steady stream of punters but unexpectedly they were all well behaved, maybe North London isn't that bad after all!
|
What a shit hole! god went there for a quick drink with a friend of mine and regretted straight away! Sat outside and within the 5 minutes people was fighting and shouting and door guys weren't even bothered to do anything about it! Made the mistake and will never ever go back!
|
Have to say tend only to nip in on a Sunday pre cinema usually for cheap food as well and on whole always find it to be clean, plenty of staff about and not really much of a wait at bar. Probably very different on Friday/Saturday nights but worth a look for quick drink at quieter times.

Clean toliets and good service today. For a Wetherspoons, to have only 1 guest beer on is pretty poor, but the quality was good.
|
Filthy tip, last time we were in before going to the cinema, the gents toilets were absolutely disgusting, seemed that someone with terminal diarrhoea had visited every cubicle. To be avoided at all costs.
|
Probably the worst service I've ever seen. most of the beers were off when I went in however I didn't try any that were on as I gave in waiting after 15 minutes, despite the pub not even being busy. Staff seemed more interested in talking or stocking shelves than serving customers, Went across the road to the Goose and got served straight away.

Total rubbish. Service, what service? Whoever had the idea of putting a pub into this space should be shot. Totally inappropriate without putting in false ceilings and partitions The place is just TO BIG to be a comfortable place . A totally soulless and desolate place even though it was packed out.
|
The beer is well kept and I have no real issue with it. It's good and I would like to drink more but my friends feel a bit threatened so we will have to leave. This is a shame as we all like the choice and range of beers but this is ruined by the rather drunken "persons" who keep being served.
|
Now the good weather is here you have a lot of drunken smoking yobs (of both sexes) hanging arond outside. With increased trade you would expect more staff on hand but you would be disappointed. The ale is a good price and is well kept but this is not enough to offset the poor service. Not a place to leave your shopping unattended when you nip to the bar for a second pint.
|
I went in here on 30th March whilst I was down in Wood Green shopping. I thought I would see if it had Improved since my Last visit which was over a year ago. The Ale Quality was much better this time as both Ales I tried were in good condition so was the service as I actually got severed this time with only a short wait. I could only see Two guest Ales on when I went in Plus the usual regular Ales. Looks like the place has been cleaned up & some better staffing put in place since last time I was in. But for some strange reason I always feel uncomfortable in this Wetherspoons as if I need too keep looking over my shoulder but that could be just the area. Its OK for a midday drink but I would not want too go down here in the dark evenings.
|
Initial impressions are not favourable - lurking smokers crowding around the entrance to this ugly-looking part of a ugly-looking building. However, the interior is rather more interesting (which is just as well as you will have plenty of time to look around while you are waiting to be served...). 10 handpumps, with four festival ales (plus two 'available soon') in addition to the usual suspects, with beer keenly priced at 1.85. However, with miserable staff, and some fairly suspect customers, the atmosphere doesn't encourage one to stay for a second pint.
|
I thought this was better than its average rating - very modern decor, a good range of real ales with one or two guests, and good quick service. It's a Wetherspoons, but not a bad one.
|
New decor is nice, service still rubbish.
The back of the pub is just a big open space with endless tables - very echoey and gives it the atmosphere of a school dining room
|
When I walked up to the bar there was a lone barman serving a couple who were paying by card. Almost 10 minutes later when I finally gave up trying to be served the lone barman was still grappling with the card machine and there were now 9 people waiting to be served. Not once did he acknowledge any of us and there was absolutely no attempt to get the glass collector to give him a hand.
An absolute shambles!

As was said, renamed Spouters corner. Something good about the place at last. For those that don't no, Spouters corner is what the corner the pub is built on(along with the Cinema etc)is called ,as it was Wood Green's Speakers corner. Now all they need to do is get rid of the Albanian Mafia and i may even venture back in
|
Now called "Spouters Corner" Has recently received a much needed refurb and looks much better as a result (including a bit of local history). On my recent visit there was also better attention to things like clearing empty tables than I saw on my previous visit. Still not great but not the truly miserable experience I had on my previous visit here.

Wetherspoons management is crap management - because Wetherspoons recruitment and training is crap recruitment and training. The Wetherspoons pub at Wood Green is perfect proof of all of this.
What a truly depressing place!
|
A very large pub which is rather nice inside.
Service on occasions can be a long wait. Beer is very good which is worth the wait. Ideal for a quick pint but it reaches a point where you dread going to the bar because you know it will be sometime!
I do like it though.
|
I went there last week and see that the manger has changed, the service is a little more faster than the last time I was there, can be slow with people ordering coffee and food when they have not made there mind up what there going to eat. The beer is the best in Wood Green ! Door policy seem a little strange as I was already in there drinking and later was asked to take my hat off, as there are no notices to say there is a door policy, also I am sure a Sikh was refused entry as he had turban on which i think is illegal. I had a nice evening in all and would go back.

Visited on a sunday afternoon, mainly just out of curiosity after seeing so many bad reviews. Pub is shabby and understaffed: long waits at the bar, stacks of dirty dishes and empties everywhere, and the stench of the toilets was shocking. Ale seemed to be fine, however (JDW beer festival ongoing), and we did get friendly enough service when it was finally our turn.
Young clientele (atypical for Wetherspoons) many of whom looked and acted like they were itching for a fight. Smokers lighting up in the middle of the pub before slowly meandering to the outdoor smoking area.
Overall it gives the impression of a large hospital waiting room pub, if such a thing existed.
2/10 (beer was fine and my expectations were rock-bottom).

I would have to agree with everyone else Again its worse than the Yates next door and thats Saying something its the dumping ground of society. Its always full of Drunks and the crap of Europe. Even the Staff are seem so browned off with it they just cant be bothered must be the worst Wetherspoons in North London.
anonymous - 22 Mar 2008 19:35 |
Went into this so called Pub last night early evening it was full of drunks smellys & winos waited for about 10 minuets to try to get served with no luck so walked straight back out again. and we went to a decent Pub instead what a crap hole this is The Goose opposite & the Yates and all diabolical. whats happened to the Wetherspoons chain there seems to be a drastic down turn in a lot of there Pubs the new managers of most of them seem very bad with little or No Experience and seem far too young and it shows.
|
Same as all Weatherspoons, ok for a pint. We only bother with it when we do a bit of shopping in WG Blessed with the quality and committed staff that is rife throughout Wood Green- Rude, surly, dis-interested and unwelcoming.
|
Is this hell hole still open? With so many decent proper pubs facing the pinch and closing, how does this survive
|
Doyle Contact head office - I did and got a result (albeit for another Wetherspoon's branch) but the Wood Green one is notorious for rude & lazy staff - and managers - and being short changed too!
|
My friend booked for four, and paid a deposit for Christmas dinner at Wetherspons Wood green some week's ago, we arrived yesterday at the appointed time of 1pm, but nobody knew anything about our booking, luckily we had a receipt. we were greeted by a very unhappy waitress who has an appalling attitude, she made some very offensive comments to us and accused us of coming in with attitudes, our food was barely editable, so we just picked at it. On leaving much earlier than we intended, we tried to complain to someone who passed himself off as a manager. (That was a waste of time.) My friends are senior citizens and maybe this is the reason for the attitude of this waitress. I or anyone I know will not be going to this pub again.

and after this review in July 2007 you still went back? sheesh! dunno what flooding BITE with the same posts for so many Wetherspoon's pubs is going to do though - try anger management classes
The Sheepwalk, Leytonstone
atmosphere gone down hill since the sarcastic irish bar staff left, and you don't see many of the regulars that use to drink there, nowadays. the lager tasted like it was past its sell by date the last time i went in, the toilets as ever are in a right state at nights. music quite good though prefer when they use to put it upstairs and give us a choice whether to go up and watch it or not. having said all this you can always get served and i would rather pay an extra 60p per pint than stand in a queue with all the kids in wetherspoons just up the road....no, don't get me started on wetherspoons.

What else did you expect? It's Wetherspoon's for god's sake! No self respecting person hands over their hard earned wages to THEM!
|
The worst pub in Wood green(along With Monaghans) utter utter tripe
|
What a Kahrzi. I thought I was in an Albanian social club. Avoid the place like the plague.
|
and if you do bother, keep an eye on your posessions AT ALL TIMES!
anonymous - 26 May 2007 00:18 |
i should have realised what i was in for when i stepped out of the shopping centre opposite, dozens of kids running around out of control, 30 coppers outside this pub searching passers by - welcome to wood green... The pub itself had 5 guest beers on display (actually only 1 was available) i asked and one by one was told "sorry not available" A very rough an unsavoury clientele in general were patronising the place this particular afternoon. Pub has nothing much to redeem itself, bad even by wetherpoons appalling standards. Dont bother....
|
Quite stuffy n smokey,good beer though. 7/10

typical wetherspoons toilet

Heard it was gonna be turned into a Lloyds Bar. Has it happened yet? Used to work here for Simon and loved it but seemed to me it went downhill after he left. It's gonna need really strong Management to pull it back to what it once was I think but good luck to whoever takes it on!
|
One of the best Wetherspoon's I've ever drunk in (which is a fair number if truth be told) and a semi-regular destination for me & my friends on a Friday night. Lovely spacious building with a modern but tasteful look and even very nice toilets. As expected by those with experience of this chain, prices are ridiculously low and the variety of beers and other drinks has to be seen to be fully appreciated. The only major drawback with this pub is bar service so slow it could severely test the patience of a saint and on one occasion was so poor that I walked (flounced, I'm afraid) out. Staff are friendly enough and know what they are doing once you get to see them but there never seem to be enough of them and some could do with a boot/bottom interface.
|
Sharpen up the service? Gawd, that would be a miracle! The service has always been bad here - even the managers (well, some of them) have been extremely rude when the staff have given you change of a tenner when you know you gave them a 20 note. Of course you don't get your money back... Complain about the food and you get patronised. Still, I have the comfort of knowing one of the arsey managers got sacked for stealing. Don't bother to complain to Head Office either - you get a bland letter saying they'll look into it - yeah, right.....
|
If you don't mind staff taking what seems like three years to actually serve you, it's OK. Real ales were good and some excellent Czech lagers in bottles (Kozel etc). If someone of this pub is reading this, can I please ask: SHARPEN UP THE SERVICE!!!! Poor service knocks this down from a 6/10 to a 4.
|
Wood Green is far enough out of the centre of London to having that horrific 'townie' feel. Folk come down from Edmonton etc to go out there. If you get a late bus back towards central you'll find it empty but if you get on one heading out of town it'll be rammed with 'yute'. Horrid horrid horrid.
|
We avoid going in here now after one of the staff refused to serve us because my mate gave her what she called a "funny look" he was trying to get her attention to get a drink. it's her job ya know? then we were talking about going into chicagos (very rare for us) and she ran around to the bouncers to tell them not to let us in... Hm. Had a bad day maybe? I've heard of the staff running round to yates and chicagos to tell them not to let countless people in. they have lost a lot of business... avoid.
emmy - 17 Nov 2004 14:12 |
Oh dear. Things aren't improving. Went in last night, *ALL* the real ale was off and some of the bottles were too. Staff were different and faster though, so perhaps a good sign. In the end I got the bus 5 minutes down to Turnpike Lane and went to the Wetherspoons there, where everythings more or less great!
Jimmy Almond - 29 Oct 2004 11:56 |
This *could* be a nice pub, it's nicely done up and the selection of drinks is good, as with all wetherspoons. What this place lacks is a decent manager to be there all the time to get the lazy, good for nothing staff to actually do their job. The queue for getting served is frankly shocking, the blondes on the bar will serve their mates and chat with them for ages, some of them hide when working, squatting at the top corner of the pub behind chairs and having a fag.
Jimmy Almond - 11 Oct 2004 17:36 |
If you avoid the food section, and if you can get served, the selection of real ales at rock bottom prices makes this a worthwhile visit. And it's got air conditioning.
Big Vern - 11 Aug 2004 11:52 |
Awful. barstaff are rude and very slow.argued with a female collegue of mine when she poited out she had been waiting for a long time. Was basically called a liar!!!Avoid
anonymous - 22 Jun 2004 13:58 |
One to be avoided at all costs. You can stand at the bar for 20 minutes before you get served. If you're a half naked female or a friend of the barstaff you're guaranteed to get served almost immediately. I have been shortchanged by a tenner in this pub and so have my friends. The food is microwaved to a squelch, the staff are all miserable and look harrassed. You can't take your eyes off your coat, bag or any personal possessions as this place is full of thieves - one "charming" lady tried to walk out with my friend's jacket under our very noses! Avoid at all costs! Shame though as it was good when it first opened...
