A large pub on the Western Esplanade about a half mile from the centre of Southend. It has a large lounge with comfortable armchairs. There is an upstairs mezzanine floor which is used for the restaurant. However on my 1st visit, there was only 1 real ale, Sharps Doombar but there was a second, Exmoor Gold on my next visit.

food was good but watch ur bill. they tried charging a quid per meal over the menu price

Nice view, but beer only tolerable.

Sure, not the nicest looking pub you'll ever go to but great views of the estuary/sea from upstairs. Cracking sunday lunch option for veggies and a decent pint of IPA.

A cut above most of the Southend seafront pubs, visited in the daytime so don't know what it's like in the evenings.
Couple of real ales available plus all the usual keg and lager suspects.
Bar staff seemed friendly and industrious.

Used to be regular in thate 90s , so popped back last week . Sure decor is same , but still a great place . However , I bet it closes down in next year or so and changes into yet another seafront block of flats !!! doom and Gloom !!

I like the Castle, the foods reasonable and the drinks are ok but its a little on the rough side. Its got a jukebox and a pool table

Slightly out of town so does tend to avoid the reprobates that hang around in all the pubs on the sea front in town.
