I worked in this pub 1986 and 87 when Tom and Hilda ran it ( very well ) it was a grat pub , I worked with Caroline and Eileen both Irish girls who were great but I don't know where they are now . Sorry to hear about the pubs demise , as said Tom and Hilda made it work well.I hope to call in one day for a trip down memory lane.

Closed. Thank God.

what has happened to this once great pub. it used to be brimming with fun and good food now its a run down shadow of its self very dissapointing indeed. a sad place to revisit needs investment and drive.....

I was greeted by a very friendly barmaid before I even got to the bar and was served a well poured pint of Guinness, although it wasnt the best quality. A standard draught selection was available along with Staropramen as well as Pride, but the Greene King IPA was off which isnt a bad thing.
Sky Sports is shown and there is a plasma screen in the front bar and two in the back bar along with a couple of pool tables and a dartboard, but I didnt spot the third table or the table football advertised above.
The music was a little loud, but I cant argue with a little Hendrix being overbearing on the ears!
This would be the sort of place I would pop to on a lunch break from work for some pub sports, but I wouldnt go out of my way to drink here any other time.

The beer was good, service quick, and a BBQ outside. The Assie manager was a a character. All in all a good visit!

If you are a fan of traditional British pubs then this is not the place for you. It was like being on the set of an American sitcom. Absolutely disgusting.
|
Decent pub, right outside the tube, but didn't feel like a commuter pub. Good place to meet for a pub crawl cause they have chairs and tables out front instead of a garden in the back. Pint (London Pride) was relatively fresh and not bad at all, lots of space inside. I'd go again.

good pub has lots on and the PS2 has been replaced finally.any sign of a PS3 that would really rock!. squeeze the area manager I hear he is a bit of a rising star!.
|
been in recently on a Thursday and was very happy to discover they had comedy nights on in the function room, great acts and just for a fiver, not bad at all. o yeah, the bar staff is hot.

Great place, even on a match day, maybe loud and crowded but everyone seems more the relaxed older crowd with their families rather than trouble causers. The playstation is back, great for killing time. The local pool players seem to be a bit clingy to the table in the back but luckilly they have two.

Bit of a confusing place but nothing bad about it. Great for travellers who want a drink when waiting for trains
|
Do live music here sometimes, didnt stay long enough to find out how good it was. Good place to go to start or end a pub crawl or just wait for a train as the station is over the road
|
Me again, forgot to say the food is absolutly amazing!!!!!!!!!!

Went to this pub on a sunny day, great service, good looking bar staff. just what i like in a pub. great music. great atmosphere. bit pricey but its what you expect in the area. lovely pub. will definatly go there again!

8.25 for a Blanc and 2 diet cokes, it was a match day or is it always that much of a rip off?
|
Extremely grim little bar - very handy for the cemetry and Earl's Court however, so bet it does an OK trade. No real ale. Expensive.

I was Assistant Manager at the Tournament from June 1996 until January 1997. Allen Piper was the Manager (You taught me a lot Allen, helped me when I needed it and were a great friend....You are greatly missed and I will always remeber you). Also there at the time were Cheryl, John, Kerry, Merita and several others whose names will come to me when I have posted this message! I had a great time and have a lot of good memories from the Tournament. If anyone remembers me and wants to get in touch please send a message.

I worked at the Tournament from April 98 - Dec 98. Allen Piper was the manager, Dennis the assistant manager. I was one of four barmaids: Lacey from Canada, Sara (me) from America, Ann-sofie from Sweden, and Lisa from Sweden. Does anyone know what happened to Allen? This was probably one of the most amazing experiences of my life, I agree that I cannot beleive I was paid to have so much fun! It was like a swedish sorority house. Feel free to contact me if you remember me.

Regarding Tom and Hilda, yes, I remember them very well. I have many fond memories of the Tournament, and Tom in particular, who employed me as a barmaid back in the fall of 1979. Gave me my first job in the UK, a stint which lasted 7 years. I remember a pool table in the back bar, lots of "Radar Love" on the jukox, and a bottle of champagne (on the house, of course), on my birthday. Had an absolute riot while working there. Couldn't believe I was getting paid for having so much fun!

I remember when Tom and Hilda had the Pub and i have to say they were execellent at running the pub however since there departure it has dramatically gone down the drain.

It's been done up recently so it's a bit more like a wine bar. odd lighting and wall coverings. One area in the pub attracts the "look at me I think I'm in a boy band" style jumped-up know-nothings that you associate with Chelsea Football Club. Lots of girls who think they are Tara PT but a really more like Jade from Big Brother. Beer is the same as before.

This gaff is opposite a graveyard. I think you know what I mean when I say that some of the clientelle are rather shifty. You can never tell if the customers are mental or simply Australian. Too many football fans for my liking and also attracts stalkers. Beer is fine and the food is more than acceptable
Dave - 20 Oct 2003 15:54 |
Reasonable pub when not over run by Chelsea racists and horrible skinheads who belch loudly and blow it in peoples faces. I wouldn't recommend bringing a bird here on matchdays
Anal Alan - 17 Oct 2003 15:23 |
Not bad, but not particularly outstanding either. Reasonable selection of reasonably average beers. Nothing to write home about, but it's basically next door to Earl's Court so if you fancy a pint at lunchtime during a conference or something, it's ideal. The Atlas round the corner is much better, though.
