Went there on Friday night, the mixed grill burger I had was really great, hot and well prepared, a reasonable portion of chips, the presentation ( nice crockery etc etc) and quality of the food seems to improved quite a bit since my last visit six months ago... the food arrived before I thought "where is our food?" ... give it a try......

At the top of a long hill in the town center. After pushing a w/chair all that way a larger was welcome no real ale. A dark perhaps depressing interior, not one of my favourites. If you use O'Niells then this as per usual, nothing special.

Loving the Live music on Thursdays!

Cheap and nasty ! old format, matched only by the 'attitude' of the staff! terrible. NAFF! horrible food, dirty bar and toilets - i would not eat there ever again. as for the beer, cheap and horrible. Go find (plenty) of other nice bars in winchester.

Had the misfortune to have to eat here one saturday lunchtime- Food ok but customer service derisory.

Yep, corporate, corporate, corporate, but the only decent place to watch live footy, plus the old late licence used to be a bonus. Never overly enthralled with the place, plus one night I remember literally having to walk through pools of blood on the pavement outside. Nice.

Yes, it is an O'Neills, so it is corporate-owned and inauthentic. Yes, it is not a true English pub, as there are no real ales on hand pump. And yes, they have a big screen showing football. That being said, the barstaff was welcoming, the pub was large so it did not feel crowded, and the patrons created a good mix of people without the issues you can often find in these large, corporate pubs. Found it to be a good place to go when I wanted to watch football. I would not make it my local, but a good visit for the right situation.

Have to agree. This pub is nothing special. Especially bad on St Patricks Day. You can imagine the green flagsNot what Id call a pub, more of bar you might find at the Irish zone of a Japanese theme park.

Are you lot going to the same pub as me? Best pub in Winchester? You're all nuts.
It's probably the worst - apart from the Vine of course which is like campylobacter in a room. The best Guinness in the whole of Winchester someone remarks? Clearly, someone who's bought the line that this is a genuine Irish pub (it isn't) and that Guinness tastes differently in different parts of the world (it doesn't - same in London, same in Belfast, same in Dublin).
Mind you, if you're a sad old married man like me, the 'pretend mick pub' as it's known to older customers presents plenty of opportunity to try to kop off with single young girls - invariably unsuccessfully.

This is a really nice pub. With a friendly manager, barstaff and doormen, its always great to go to on a friday or saturday night. 10 out of 10!!!
|
This is one of the best pubs in winchester; Offering a great range of drinks, live bands and DJ's, as well as some of the friendliest and best looking barstaff around!! Unlike other places you'll visit in winchester, customers in this pub are of all different age ranges, which gives the place a real fun and relaxed atmosphere. Definately one to visit on a weekend night!!

Best pub in winchester! Best staff, doormen and manager. Always a friendly place for a drink or something to eat!
|
This will always be my favorite Pub in the whole world!!! Fun and friendly staff especially the doormen and gorgeous manager!! Great food, lovely atmosphere and music to suit most tastes. All drinks reasonably priced and professionally served. O' Neill's also has the best Guinness in the whole of Winchester - possibly even England!
|
groovy pub, great atmosphere! always fun place to go to and boogie! had many a good times here. Fabulous manager too:*)!...accompanied by top doorman! Im a great fan xxx

4 years of great times. fantastic staff and best doormen in Winchester.

What can I say !?! Depending on your tastes and age group then this is the better place to be in on a thur/fri or sat night.
Not full of pretentious wannabes, not full of drunken 18 y/o with no control. Good beer, excellent food ( cheesy chips with chilli ).
Music is always entertaining and generally a fair bit of crowd interaction.
Excellent birthday party each yeah in November! Very accepting of people in fancy dress :P

This pub's been my favourite pub for the past 4-5 years or so of my life in winchester! Though not in it so much recently due to changes in my personal life, but i do miss it!! - The friendly staff, and atmosphere are the big reasons i prefer it to everywhere else in town.
As above, live music on thursdays - super-whopping hayoooge breakfast in there - if you can eat it all, then you must be overweight, or have been starved for a week! (sorry!).
Lager on draft isnt only fosters or stella as above, also do carling *drool*, grolsch, and urr i dont know - i only drink carling personally :o) - doubt there's many teenagers in there anymore as they've now gone for over 21's only this year! :)

The antithesis of a Wetherspoons. This is a large Irish pub but retains atmosphere and is kept immaculately. Great fun at the weekend, when a late license operates but busy most evenings, well prepared pub food available and popular, occasional live music and fantastic big screens for sports. Professional staff round off a good venue that is very well run.

This is a grim Irish bar with little to recommend it. Full of noisy teenagers drinking purple, or possibly turquoise. It sells little real beer, and the lager on draft is basically Fosters or Stella. Most locals refer to this as the gas showroom - as that's what it was before it turned into a Firkin, before it again turned into an O'Neils. About the only good point about this pub is that it is open late.

This is the best place to go if you're a student in Winchester, full of friendly people (most of them other students) and they do great food too, prices are not too bad for somewhere as nice looking as this.

I loved O'Neil's wheni was a student inWinchester, it was always good fun, great music and open late!

Many O'Neills appear to be much the same but there is one thing that stands out about the Winchester O'neills......The landlord! Patrick Rogers will offer you a warm welcome and he is often seen mingling with the regulars and meeting new customers. The bar is always well stocked with everything from the traditional (Guiness,Murphy's and worthingtons) to the more modern & trendy (becks & stella artois to name but a few) the food is always freshly prepared and is of generous proportions. I highly recommend the Traditional breakfast with an Irish twist but be warned, this is for poeple with hearty appetites! There is Live music every Thursday night and if you're lucky enough to find out in advance, get down there to see JIM FOX and ejoy some good Irish cheer over a pint of black gold! Theres no shortcomings with the entertainment either. With live sports shown on the big screen and no less than three additional TVs, your always in a prime spot for the big events and with a live DJ every friday and saturday night, every aspect of your social circles tastes can be catered for. Highly recommended!!!
