Having heard that this pub was under new management, we returned. What an improvement! Friendly service, very nicely kept Fortyniner, and a seafood risotto that I'd return for, all at a reasonable price.

Stayed at this pub on the recommendation of friends. The beer was excellent, the food superb and the accommodation was more than adequate for a B&B in this part of the world. On top of this the staff were very welcoming and went out of their way to help. The locals told me that the pub had recently changed hands and the new landlady, Lorraine, is a welcome improvement over the previous incumbent. The atmosphere in the bar on the two nights we were there was very welcoming and made our stay a real treat. I don't usually go to the same place twice for weekend breaks but will certainly put this pub in my Satnav for future visits.

It's amazing how a once-excellent source of food can go so far downhill. Tried lunch. My king-prawn stir-fry (�12.95) wasn't a stir-fry -- merely heated prawns in a sweet-chilli sauce, served with (properly-cooked) rice and a pretty bland salad. It was at least edible, which is more than can be said for my wife's Thai chicken curry (�9.95). This appeared to have been reheated at least once: the chicken, the mange-tout, the carrot and the mini-corn-cobs turned to mush with a little attention from a fork.
The Ringwood Best Bitter was good.
Absolutely will not return!

We visited this pub whilst walking the Avon Valley. We had gleaned from 'Beer in the Evening' that this pub was rated for it's food. So even though this meant a couple of miles extra on our walk we made the effort to visit. We arrived rather late in the day, 2.00pm and were doubtful of getting anything to eat. No problem, the staff were exceptionally friendly, the locals were entertaining and the food was as good as it get's. They even tolerated our muddy boots. On the down side the pub is a bit open plan where as I like my pubs with nooks and crannies. Still with a good range of real ale and that food it ticks must of the boxes.

Very friendly landlord and bar staff, have been there and had a quiet meal - which was delicious - but also been there and had a cray drinking session - bar staff get involved and had a right laugh! The only thing i would say is its a little old fashioned - furnishing wise - but great place!

The austere outside belies a most welcoming pub inside. It serves splendid meals. One draught beer available. Friendly atmosphere. Outside seating. Large car park. Named after a painter whose statue appears by the town centre bridge.
