Nice range of beers always kept rotated and some good guest ales. Limited menu depending on who is around. Sky sports shown and open late Friday and Saturday. Great for a pint after work or on a cold evening as its not a summer place as has no garden.

Nice!

This shop conversion has gone under several different names - you may have known it as The Black Rose, Rosies Ale House, Old Rosies and no doubt a few other names as well. Now run by friendly Irishman Dennis, it is clean, tidy and welcoming. A locals pub that welcomes new visitors, with a great selection of whiskies and a singular real ale that is always very presentable. I've visited this pub on various days/times expecting to catch them out - but it hasn't happened - whatever beer is on sale has been in good condition. IMO a far better and more intimate alternative to the nearby Woodmans.

Hes a bit odd to you HenryHooHa or should I say Henry Durham becuase you sir are a TWAT. A good pub, friendly, nice guvnor, open late, good food, sport and beers.
|
I have never met such an odd landlord. He seems to deliberately ignore his punters and constantly seems stressed. I like the pub but the Irish owner (who's accent I can barely decipher) behaves like a little bull terrier whenever I am there.
Perhaps it's me??

Just moved to the area and for an Irishman it has a great Anglo-Irish feel to it. Very friendly and relaxed owner and staff, very clean and all the sport you want. Nice to have a pub offering the things expected of a traditional boozer in Highgate-football,jukebox, craic, friendly staff and a very decent pint of Arthur

I worked at Roses Ale House in 1998 and am looking for Gavin. If anyone knows where he is please hit me up. The crazy Yank is heading to SA!
|
a very strange place with an odd mix of locals and a landlord who has varying mood swings, always open late and directly on the Archway road with no outside space ,not ever going to be a summer pub and far to many spurs fans for my liking. Well run bar and the food is excellent.
|
Definitely worth a visit.
It's just well ... odd. I don't mean that in a bad way.
|
One never knows where one will be with this pub, landlord, or other punters.

In response to DunL let me answer your questions. Will the pub be open -yes- from about 4pm weekdays or earlier at weekends when live sport or racing is on show on the big screens. Will there be someone behind the bar -yes, always if the door is open. Don't stand there like a lemon -just shout out in case someone is re-stocking the shelves or cleaning. The place has a great selection of beers and spirits and nice indian food in the evening. Will the jukebox be on -yes, unless it is packed with people watching loads of great sport or a busy football night. The quiz machine has been replaced by a fruit machine as too many saddos liked buying a half a coke and spending 3 hours getting in everyones way playing the quiz machine.
Brilliant friendly pub -locals and strangers welcome -never any trouble and amazing range of beers. Great atmosphere for all football matches/racing/cricket/rugby. Best pub in North London

One never knows where one will be with this pub - will it be open, will there be someone behind the bar, will the jukebox be on or has it been hushed because of sport, but most of all where is the bloody quiz machine?????

Best pub on Archway Road. Ideal place for whole evening as curry brought to your table is great. Good prices for food and drinks too. Landlord clearly invested in the place as decor, TVs and even speakers all excellent!
|
fantastic warm and welcoming place. Dennis the landlord accomodates most TV sports -open late. Good range of beer and amazing selection of whiskey/shots/spirits. Great Indian food take-away in house and served at tables. Good friendly crowd. Well worth a visit

Ive been in here a couple of times and the Black Sheep has been off both times and Ive also been given pints of Guinness with unacceptably large heads. I can understand in a trendy bar when Im being served by a pole, but not in this supposedly Irish pub. This is my only gripe as I really like this pub and being a football fan it is the place to be on a Saturday as there are plenty of plasma screens and the barman will try to accommodate all games.
There is a selection of standard and premium lagers and an unusually large spirit selection in bottles on the back shelf of the bar.
I will make the effort to travel from the barren pub land of Muswell Hill to visit here again for the footie.

Went for Sunday lunch....no food available and no ale! Just football wall to wall. Left without buying.
|
Superior shop-front conversion. This used to be Roses' Ale House and is now the Highgate Inn: under both names it's always had a pleasant, cosy, and welcoming feel to it. Serves Black Sheep ale, which is always to be commended, and although I haven't eaten here I bet the food is good. Lots of screens for those who want to watch the sport. The only complaint I'd have is that it's a bit modern and over-lit indoors, but generally it's a decent place.

An excellent pub, especially in the winter. Being a long thin pub, it's a bit dark so maybe not everyone cup of tea in the summer, especially with no beer garden (I don't count the smoking umbrellas on Archway Road as a beer garden).
|
Yep, with out doubt the finest Sunday roast in town!
|
Fab Sunday lunches, nice laid back atmosphere, comfy seats, plenty of screens for the footy - a great, unpretentious place
|
Recently refurbished, and now a really nice pub in an area which is a bit short of unpretentious places to go. Good Sunday lunch, better than many others in Highgate and not as expensive. Very friendly landlord.
|
Now called Highgate Inn and has been for some time. Good manager (Dennis), comfortable, good jukbox and oversubscribed quiz machine.
|
A great free-house, friendly service, good beer at reasonable prices. I'd be more than happy if this was my local.
|
Back open again, but with a mega price increase for no apparent improvement!! 2.85 a pint where the Woodman (over the road) is some 20p+ cheaper!!
|
Closed down now :(

Proper cockney barman, excellent service and very polite. Beer was well kept and although the pub was a bit empty, we were made to feel at home. Look out for Patrick.

a well=established shop-conversion . shop-conversions arn't arbitrairily shit, they just usually are, however, this is the exception, this is a real pub, pub, with a proper interior and atmosphere, does ales, and has a landlord, not manager. also o0nly 2 doors up from a specialist off-licence which sells more than the usual brews
