Still closed with whitewashed front windows. The sign is still there but I cannot see the place reopening as a pub after such a long period of closure.

Another formerly bustling Stamford pub which is currently closed. I recently spoke with a local licensed trade businessman who told me he had made enquiries but the quoted costs of taking on and running the place were prohibitive.

Yes its a bit OTT with televisions and sport themes but the beer was fine; limited choice of local beers though which is ok if youre not local, like us.

Many years ago it was the Albion, an excellent little town-centre boozer with a tiny front bar. Now much bigger, having been opened out, and mainly a younger persons pub, with on-screen sport dominating at times. Has a range of real ales, but not often anything unusual for the area. The last couple of times I have been in, on the last occasion with several friends, the beer has been drinkable but not great. There is also what sems a good selection of international lagers and keg beers for those who like that sort of thing.

We went down to the Otters Pocket next on All Saints Street. This is one of the pubs I had visited before and they do have a selection of real ales, but as there were no new beers for us and it was full of football fans watching about 5 screens, it was not the place to be for us today. It was so noisy, but they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Had no beers so cannot give a good rating this visit.

Visited last month, beers in good nick. Somewhat sport orientated with TV screens, nevertheless worth a visit. Beers good, staff and punters friendly.
|
Visited this pub on a saturday early afternoon and a sunday early evening - on a personal basis I found the big screen TV's taking a bit too much attention but the range of ales made the visits worthwhile. Archers IPA, Oakham Bishop's Farewell and Grainstore Osprey all in good condition.
The late licence and general ambience suggest that this pub may get livlier than when we visited but would go back again!

I like this pub. Good for watching rugby, football etc and the staff & clientele are very friendly. Good choice of real ales & posh lagers. Haven't tried the food so can't comment. Recommended.

Excellent pub, watched the England v France Rugby game here. Beer excellent locals welcoming.

Also brillant for watching cricket!!!

"The Pocket" is also my local ,marcus. where a good night can be had any night of the week .right from the start of the weekend( wednesday night) through to the end of the weekend (monday morning). I cant comment on the real ales im affraid as im a larger man .But on a visit to stamford one must call at "the pocket" to sample the "exotic drinks" as so aptly named by mshanger. the staff will make a vast array of cocktails to your own specific alcholic needs.Sneaky vimto being my favourite .the narrow bar is a slight hinderance .From the raised area however, service is not a problem. With various screens you can also watch almost whatever sport you like (as long as it football)!

This pub/bar/drinking heaven strives to be the best spot in town . With good staff and good management, this pub continiues to grow and satisfies my needs as a regular customer. With other pubs/bars in the town cropping up and uping prices to stupid heights (3.20 a Guiness mate!), this will for a long time be the place to drink in Stamford. Congrats to Justin, Tony and Ray on running the best place within 30 miles of anywhere

Been in here twice within the last six months and both times the beer was not in good nick, yet bloke behind the bar said it had only just gone on. You used to be so good, clean your lines!!!

Great pub. Am slightly biased as it is my local and frequent it on many an occassion. I play rugby for the local town and "The Pocket" as it is affectionately known is the place to be after a hard game on a saturday afternoon. The range of real ales and more common lagers and belgian beers are plentiful enough to cater for all tastes. The atmosphere is always excellent, the bar staff always willing, with new ideas for the more exotic type of drink, should you feel the need. If I had to be negative in any way, it would be the sometimes smoky atmosphere, but the will dissipate once the smoking ban is in force. If you are ever in Stamford, call in to "The Pocket" and witness a friendly welcoming pub, where you can relax, enjoy good beer, good company, read the handful of papers that are always available and just while away the time in a chilled out real ale house.

Excellent local pub. Nice place to chill out on a Sunday after a heavy night, and always worth a visit on a nightout too. Is very popular at night and always very busy, so get in early to avoid having to shoe horn yourself to the bar.
|
First and foremost - beer is *excellent*. Bishops Farewell (Oakham) very toothsome. Pub is fairly narrow and on two levels, and seems to show a lot of the football. Staff are friendly and helpful. Pub suffers slightly from layout: the long bar can be difficult to get close to for service when the pub is busy. Low ceiling also means it can be smoky. Otherwise, a good choice for a beer or three at any time.

This pub is fantastic i have never failed to have a good time when i go to stamford because of The Otters Pocket. I know most of the staff by name and get on with them all very well. There is great beer on the bar and i has such a good atmosphere that it will keep me coming to stamford for many years to come.

This is a small pub but atleast the wooden interior makes you feel you are somewhere a bit different. I'd give it a go.
|
bit small but quickly get's an atmosphere> beer is good if not cheep and can be a little slow in service, other than that pretty good!
|
my local pure pub brillance brill bar staff and owners good range of real ale's (summer lighting of course!)
|
Unfortunately I disagree with the previous review. I found the staff in this pub rude, the beer particularly expensive and not very good! Great position, shame another good pub has become a haven for lager louts.

Yet another quality pub in Stamford and by that I mean High Quality not just "fit for purpose". Good choice of beer and lagers, excellent welcome and good location
