user reviews of the Warrant Officer, Walthamstow

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Just to clear up some misconceptions. The Wild Card Brewery never at any point owned or managed The Warrant Officer. They briefly operated out of the pub's premises and now have their own premises near Walthamstow Village. All improvements to the pub are the work of the current owner/landlord Rob Richier.

This is now one of Walthamstow's premier music venues and the best place in the area for hearing great quality original music. The pub has hosted three 3-day music festivals in 2014 and more than 50 different acts have played here since September 2013.

It may be a bit off the beaten track but the W15 bus stops right outside the door and can be picked up from Walthamstow Central, St James Street and Blackhorse Road Stations. Four people in a cab would actually cost less per head than the bus.

This is a great little boozer which always has good quality guest ales, fine Sunday lunches, Sunday afternoon jazz and music every Saturday night.

A fantastic pub in a not-too-great area. The staff are wonderful, welcoming and chatty. Always willing to help, allowing tasters of the ales and a professional service.

The pub also has many live bands playing down there and you can see that the management have given this some serious consideration. Not just covers bands playing loudly and badly, but folk, rock, jazz, blues, etc artists playing originals and clearly with tons of talent.

Worth a visit, but keep the phone number of a cab company in your pocket. Only other option is a single bus that goes in Walthamstow. and don't think about taking a "stroll" around the local area.

I visited this pub for the first time yesterday as I was in the area for a festival in the nearby park. I was pleased to discover there was a beer festival taking place in the pub and particularly enjoyed the Oatmeal Porter! I found it a pleasant and comfortable pub with a nice atmosphere, decent ale, and live music in the form of an 'Open mic' evening. It is now run by the Wild Card Brewery who seem determined to make something of the place - I enjoyed my visit and would certainly go back again.

WILD CARD BREWERY presently based on the same industrial estate as Brupond Brewery has recently taken over this pub. A beer festival to follow in June; and another in June to mark Walthamstow Street Food Festival.

Hope to do limited brewing there in due course.

Have walked past this pub a few times. Seems fairly empty whether at 3pm in the afternoon , or 9pm in the evening. There were a few startes from the locals as I put my head in to have a look, just par for the course with most pubs in inner city areas. A local friend advised me never to go in, and also mentioned the Sky Programme. I guess like most Londoners, the pub has a bark worse than its bite. A few shouty cockneys doesn't make a pub rough , does it?

This pub has come a thousand miles since the new owner has been in charge. Its a shame that absolute idiots are allowed to put pathetic comments on this site. I would suggest that the reason they make such comments are because they are not allowed to run amuck and return the pub back to what it was.

There are many positives about this pub. it is clean, nicely decorated the beer is always good (lagers, bitters And Real ale), the staff are well presented, cheerful, good fun. The attitude towards customers is good.

Its a shame that the food does't take off. The standard of food is always very good and cheap in comparison to other pubs that do food near by.

Keep up the good work there is still a long way to go

This pub is now called the "Warrant Officer" I have only been there a couple of times and it seemed ok but I can't give a proper review.

This pub seems to change character depending on time of day.The `returned` landlord seems to have control, knows his regulars, friendly, as are the staff.Live music and karaoke every other weeks.Fridays and Sundays.Small premises, but local family pub.Pool table.Tv. Raised seating area doubles as small stage.Tetley ok.. Guiness ok..Stella normal.
