The Albion is located directly opposite the other village pub in Crantock. They share a car park. It has 2 rooms and a small outdoor yard. Doom Bar & Tribute were the only ales. But the atmosphere was quite cosy.

went last night...excellent food and service....the toilets have hot water and are clean, these new people seem to want to make a bloody good go at making it work!

Well what a pleasent suprise past owners gone bust new owners in now and 100% better the bogs have been cleaned and you can now put your glass down on the counter and tables without them sticking to the grime ,, all strength to the new couple making a real good go of it and is now by far coming back to its rightful place as village pub Ale was tip top and so was lager tho they ran out of Fosters as its proving so popular no seating room last week all tables full on a couple of nights and food is good. So will be back in end of May on next visit locals also in abundance once again .

This pub is now in new hands and well worth a visit. Having read the previous reviews we were upset to think this would be our local whilst on holiday over Xmas, but we needn't have worried. The landlady is a fabulous cook and made a special meal for our friend's 50th birthday. The food was really tasty, and there was a good choice. The Doombar and Tribute ales were well kept and there's a well stocked bar.
Please give this pub another try - you won't be disappointed.

Paid a visit to our long lost local pub and had an evening meal, with some friends, we all really enjoyed it, with the new land lady joining us for a chat. I must say give them a chance, and there is a great saying "Rome was not built in a day" There can only be good things ahead.

Now under new management, a couple new to Cornwall apparently: she seems to have some idea. Place seemed OK but very gloomy indoors, and service a bit haphazard. Beer acceptable. Give it a few weeks and it might buck up.
now the old landlord has gone bust, it is up for rent!! could be a good place for some of its "critics" to have a go then???
bogs have been cleaned, still in same style though

Have to agree with other comments. Visited at the end of February with very fond memories of holidays in yers gone by. Didn't even stop to sample anything and moved on to the Smugglers Den the other side of Cubert. If memory serves me right this was nothing special in the 70's and 80's but is now superb.

This pub was the pits!! Couldnt even finish drinks due to the awful smell!
Lovely period building but now shabby, dusty and in dire need of an overhaul. Real ales well kept but food is overpriced, commercial fare with mediocre presentation and service. The Cornishman across the road has better value food and the Bowgie Inn a short distance away has high quality food in pleasant and clean surroundings.

Great News! Cillit Bang Stain and Toilet Cleaner is on special offer at Sainsburys - was 3.68, now only 2.00.

Have you cleaned the bogs this year (2010)?

I used lived in Crantock and loved summer evenings at 'The Albion'. We returned to Cornwall in September 09 and drove out to The Albion for dinner. I was upset to see the state of a once favourite pub. The staff were miserable, untidy and seemed put upon when you ordered a drink. The pub itself is tired and dirty. The food, when it finally arrived, had been taken out of the freezer and tossed in a deep fat fryer. The cutlery wasn't clean but then neither was the table. The empty glasses on our table stayed there until after we left. The toilets were disgusting, they stank and had no toilet paper. The floor in the loo was swimming in water, litter and cigarette ends. After washing my hands I had to use my own tissues to dry them. This lovely old pub is unloved by it's present owners. There is no warm welcome or friendly atmosphere. It smells of old, damp clothes and stale cooking. The Old Albion needs new landlords, a new cleaner, a lick of paint, a new chef and some tender loving care. I still remember when this was a great place to spend an evening what a shame new visitors will have a very different opinion.

Will let you know at Easter !

Are you going to clean the toilets in 2010?
Should be a fantastic pub has the picture postcard effect from outside but what a disapointment inside needs a complete through clean and smells of dogs. The toilets are an absolute disgrace when compared to other pubs in the area. Food if you like frozen then its your cookie if not best avoided, staff are miserable and when you think we are in a recession and good service to attract custom should be the norm sadly not here, as some one else said avoid avoid avoid .

With hundreds of extra visitors in in the village for the 'Bale Pushing' on September 11th, you would have thought that the Tenants of this Pub would have made an effort to showcase their business - BUT NO! No Food on offer, beers and ciders running out and, TOILETS WHICH HAVEN'T SEEN A CLEANER FOR YEARS. This Pub will fail and deserves to. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.

Rating for this pub has dropped again this year. The beers not the problem. In fact the Exmoor Gold and the Skinners Ginger Tosser (great name, lol), were very nice pints. The problem is the place needs a bit of a facelift, and clean up. Don't get me wrong, I don't want it to become a wine bar, but the whiff of several damp dogs, bits of lettuce and rice etc left on the tables from previous diners, and a toilet that is best left alone, do not leave a good impression. So only a 5 this year from me.
Could be a really nice pub given the location and the building. Not at all welcoming and the food is of the frozen microwave variety. Not recommended.
Solemn pub. Had a choice of a pint of Courage Best or half a pint of Courage Best. The pub had the life and soul of a frozen ice pop that's been left, crumpled at the bottom of the freezer under some fishcakes.
A bit dead all last week, couldn't understand why really because the beer was good (The Skinners Cornish Blonde being outstanding) and usually a well attended pub especially when you consider it is in a large village with no other real competition.
Many pubs in the area were the same last week on my Cornwall visit so maybe the current financial situation is biting deeper. Still a nice pub, friendly service and compared to the outrageous charges at the nearby Bowgey Inn the beer was well priced for the area.
Traditional Cornish pub with a good sprinkling of tourists and locals. Had a choice of Courage Best, Abbott Ale, and Betty Stoggs, so I plumped for the Betty Stoggs. Also had a couple of pints of strong (6%!) cider, which name escapes me. My heads as cloudy as the cider! There was a nice atmosphere in the pub when we were there, but be warned, you must like animals, because there was as many dogs as people in the bar that night, and the barking can get a little intense at times if the dogs don't like each other!
Extremely dissapointed this year. Again we were forced to take kids downstairs. Kids are not 2nd class citizens. Then a really long wait for the food which , when it came was just defrosted Frozen stuff, because the chef hadn't turned in. Pathetic and expensive. Avoid this place, because the customer isn't important to them.
Overall we found The Old Albion to be a no frills but authentic Cornish pub. Predominantly holiday makers but a few locals to add to the authenticity. Unfortunately the only grudge we bear was a downgrade to the 'family room' to eat our dinner. This saddens me as you feel at the bottom of the pile as it were if you have children and how are we supposed to teach our children how to interact in social environments if we are not allowed to be a part of them!! But aside from this the food was fine if not a little pricey.

nice pub to sit outside in summer .Good selection of real ales with regular guesr ales and local brews.Meals a bit pricey but not bad.
Went to the pub during the Easter holidays. A lovely building set on a stunning coastal. The food however was overpriced and extremely poor quality. I don't know wether it was because they weren't very busy and couldn't be bothered with the odd passing trade but I've rarely if ever tasted anything worse.
I meant "wonderful" of course...
Had a crab salad which looked expensive on the menu, but when it arrived it was a huge mound of the freshest crab served with a well-prepared salad and a freshly-baked roll. Wondeful! Can't remember what the beer was, but it wasn't the star of the show; the salad was...
This is the idea place to while away the afternoon. It's so good, even the locals drink here.
Great pub + great food.
Very nice, old and picturesque. Tends to be a bit expensive with only one beer available at the time.
Picture postcard thatched village pub, highly popular year round with both locals and visitors. Well kept beers and a wide ranging menu (The Ploughman's will set you up for the day). smugglers hidey hole visible in bar. Naturally with a pub of this age, lots of beams and character! Very limited parking a few and a few outside seats. The only downside is that sometimes it seems to have an identity crisis of if its a pub or a gift shop as it also sells its own range of 'Old albion' themed gifts
