Now - a Burger King.

This has been closed for about a year.
It is destined to be a burger bar I think.
This pub ceased being a Wetherspoons at least a year ago or so.
It hasn't changed much.
A pleasant & quiet 'Spoons. Limited beer choice. The island bar seems all out of proportion to the limited space that surrounds it!
Usual Wetherspoons interior, but a fine selection of ales and very quick and friendly service. Unlike many other pubs, this wasn't packed on Saturday evening, which suited me but probably isn't a good sign economically.

Popped in here after a very bad experience in a nearby boozer!! What a difference. Good beer (one beer ran out but the barman gave us nearly a pint of it for free while he went to change the cask). Typical huge Wetherspoons interior but all very pleasant and friendly - they even ordered a taxi for us. If you are heading for The Bantam or The Racehorse then I suggest you forget them and use this instead!

This pub will be in the Good Beer Guide 2011, and is nominated for the "pub of the Season" I hope it wins gets my vote !
This pub is now known as The Eastgate.
The change has been an improvement.

This pub, has just had a wonderful refurb, it has transformed from a mundane chav bar to a trendy, but traditional pub, lots of oak and wallpaper. I took my son in for lunch as they were running a "kids eat free" weekend, the food was good and i had a lovely pint of Brains SA, and a Greene King Ruddles only 1.29 bargain!
Good drinks selection, nice for a quiet daytime drink and very lively drink at the weekend. Booze is cheap, but this makes it very busy on weekend nights and you can find yourself waiting up to 20 mins for a drink!
I like this place. You can have a lunch date in the day when it's quiet and come back on a Friday night when it's buzing. They now stock Kopparberg which is fantastic. Not as good as Moon on the Square.
A decent pint of ale 2 be had, nice upstairs and down. 8/10
good place to get some cheap beers down your neck before hitting a club.
the quality of beer can be a bit hit and miss though (it is a wetherspoons after all)
Great place to start the night or go for lunch n my what good value!
dont know why its not more popular, its got wetherspoons prices in a decent pub.

when i called there was a torrential downpour straight into the pub a bit tired looking and not as classy as more modern lloyds bars.

lloyds is a good place to go as its right in the town centre. it does good meal deals and cheap beer all day.plays top music with tv screens. its on two floors and also has late licence at weekend! which is always a bonus
