And still boarded up. You can still see the sign for the frame and the kebab shop nextdoor is still open!
Still boarded up. Another pub with no sign of life.
Appears to be be boared up still. Good luck Rob!
this is now called divas and is a live music bar.
Unless I was day-dreaming its called Platform Nine again. Still has pink walls outside so I don't think i'll be visiting.
Now closed down, hope its nothing to do with the kabab house next door !!! ( has to be a non pc joke there somewere, but will leave that to Bi gAle Drinkhead pmsl )
Cheap and nasty looking gaff. Must be doing well its for sale !
I can see the joke Pilgrim was getting at.I`d be very worried if I went into a place and everyone was walking around with a smile on their face i`d check I wasn`t in the funny farm! This place lets its self ( and the whole of Guildford) down by the very tacky colour its been painted which is more suited to a chavs nail varnish. Its not the fact its a gay bar it just looks so so cheap.
No need for sexual innuendo Pilgrim just because you perhaps consider yourself to be a straight gentleman, the gay population is taking off and it is only right they should have their own gay bar.
It is called Scrumptious and is now a gay bar.
Probably not recommended for the straight guy.
Was small and cramped when called Platform 9.
As the Plough it was a reasonable locals pub.
Small bar nothing going for it. Spot on BestBeerBoff looking at the other places xkianx drinks I will keep well clear, Bridge Street yucksville. Isn`t there a link between this place and Flares ?? Also saying everyone had a smile on their faces (WEIRD)were they sitting on something hard or just on something??????
Walked past - Interesting to know it attracts Big Brother types. Perhaps that says it all about the place....
Visited this bar for the first time last Sunday on the bank holiday weekend and I can honestly say I was facinated. Amazing DJ, Great atmosphere and a VERY young bar owner. After googling the bar I noticed the brand "Scrumptious" is owned by a 22 year old called Rob who seems to be well connected amongst celebrities and the music industry. The winner of big brother a few years ago was sat chatting to everyone and I didnt see one person without a smile on their faces. Drinks promotions are also very good with WKD's at 1.50 and double vodka redbull for 2. Great night out, will definatley be visiting there again.
Oh dear is it a gay pub really now? Well i suppose gay people need somewhere to have their fun ;)
Went passed the once good town pub,now it looks a rather cheap/tacky hangout. AVOID
this how now been taken over by Rob Cooper who runs the gay night at Flares on a sunday called Scrumptious. so this'll be guildford's first all day open gay bar/pub
good luck to him I think it'll be a really exciting venture!
Times change as has been said many times before but maybe a change too far on this occasion,i do hope someone else takes this pub on but a warning it is a "Punch Taverns" outlet.
Bearable.
Just been closed for a month as their appeal failed.Shame this was a hard down to earth drinkers pub in its hay day.
No Mr.R.what you`ll find the place closed for a few months due to magic mushrooms found in the curry (or something in that vain)i thought i got a bit of a kick out of the burger i had.Hummm
I remember this as The Plough, a friendly, clean and well run pub where a female of my age (getting on!) could go in and feel at ease. I suppose it has been taken over by one of the big brewery chains and look what has happened. The Bridge Street drinkeries are swamps and there are very few of the original Guildford town pubs left. Shame.
This place is definately back and up and running as there is a great live band playing there called SOUNDS OF THE SUBURBS on Sat 5th July 08. You can hear the band perform some great punk & indie covers then join them on stage to sing in their amazing punk rock karaoke. What a laugh.
Stroller is correct, has indeed been closed for refurbishment. It has not even been open that long!
Went passed today looks closed.
Oh go on, please tell us!
Actually there is something quite unique and amazing about this place, but i won't reveal what it is.
Silly name should have left it as the Plough.Still the place is ok the staff are friendly enough good selection of bottled drinks.Music mmmm each to there own.
this place is the only actual pub in guildford that is open late. it's time the young people found out about it and took over, this polace could be sooooooooo cool!
Place gets pretty out of hand with annoying people. Best to give it a miss

WHAT A CHANGE IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME .THIS TIME LAST YEAR YOU WOULD BE LUCKY TO SEE AN OLD MAN WITH A DOG AT THE BAR,NOW IF YOU CAN FIND ROOM YOU CAN LISTEN TO SOME EXCELLENT BANDS,AT WEEKENDS THE MUSIC POLICY IS DIFFERANT EVERY TIME FROM FUNK TO PUNK,ALSO THE MANAGEMENT STAMP OUT BAD ATTITUDES VERY QUICKLY,ITS PROBABLY THE SAFEST LATE NIGHT DRINK IN THE TOWN.THE PLOUGH IS DEAD LONG LIVE PLATFORM NINE.
Appears to have a very late bar. Just have to wait and see how this place turns out... Chippy next door :)
Calum - 30 May 2006 22:20 |
its platform 9 now with a late license and full of very excitable girls. in much contrast to the old plough
The Plough is dead. Now painted an uninspiring shade of weak coffee and called "Platform Nine" or similar.

Over priced beer
anonymous - 24 Feb 2006 12:22 |
Yeah, much better under the new management - music rocks and good people too.....For the best night, check out the 1st Friday of each month - Two of Guildford's finest DJ there under the names of 'Jon Luv and GentlemenOfLesiure'.....they play all sorts, but always funky breaks, beatz.... no attitude, just good music.....seriously, check them out....they are the bomb!

The Plough has definitely changed for the better. I was handed a flyer for the Soul Station the new Jamaican food place that is inside the Plough. I went there for dinner and was taken away by the laid back attitude (no attitude) and decent music. The pub has a good atmosphere and pleasant decor. They now have big screen for live matches and good music in the evening.
This pub was always like walking into an elderly relatives living room, now it's had a internal makeover and it's looking rather good. Great soul food menu, Guiness as good as it's ever been and a late licence. Well worth a visit just hope the Guildford 'one way' charvers stay away.
Still a locals' pub, but more of a friendly one now. Used to be like a monastery but has livened up its image. A loss for some but a gain for others.
Will2 - 12 Jan 2006 17:44 |
I used to drop by at weekends and on my way from the station for a pint of Harveys and a the feel of the kind of "local" that Guildford is sorely short of after the wave of closures in the '80s. Popped in recently for the first time after the closure and refurb', thirsting for a pint of H. Bit of a shock, big bright room, no Harveys, the only atmosphere was a strong smell of paint. Lets hope that wears off!

I am a regular at this establishment, and even bring my lady wife here for a sweet sherry after bridge. I would take issue with the last reviewer's comments. As a retired army officer, I am used to ribaldry (one has to be), and rubbing shoulders with other 'ranks' - after all, isn't this one of the distinctive features of our Great British culture? Additionally, I simply do not believe Hattie Jacques would ever commit such a perverse act. This pub may be 'old skool' as the youngsters would have it, but Derek Guyler - 'Corky' in hit TV comedy 'Sykes' - and all the other regulars would not change a thing.

Well, the is quite nice, and this could be quite a nice little boozer. But the tight space ineviatably draws you into earshot of the good ol chav boys wot use it. The half hour I was there conicided with a loud and intrusive anecdote - punctuated with nicotine rattle laugh - about Hattie Jacques giving Sid James a b**w job ... Class.

this pub is every thing that a real pub should be . this is good to see in a town that has been flooded with non-descript bars and bar/pubs due to the nearby university . however, the beer on hand-pump is not well kept . every time that i go to guildford, i want to go there because it's a good pub, but then i think ' yeah, but the beer's not going to be great ' .
dan - 14 Sep 2004 12:26 |
Have to say I'm a bit surprised at some of the comments here; we've only been in there a few times, we're certainly not considered locals, we're in our twenties, and everyone on both sides of the bar has always been perfectly friendly towards us.
It's a good old-fashioned traditional pub, not necessarily to everyone's taste, but I'd recommend it if you're after a good beer and a relaxed atmosphere while you're having a chat with some mates.
Seems to have an official 'over 30s only' policy. You are not actually banned from going in if you are under that age, but you will be heavily stigmatised for doing so. Don't think I'll visit this one again for at least another ten years
Will - 14 Aug 2004 22:20 |
Anyone under the age of 50 forget it. Expect to be stared at like your David Dickinson when looking in at this place. They are just not friendly with young people!
locals pub, a nice pub pub 2 ales
dan - 4 May 2004 12:44 |
Not so keen, I felt that the locals didn't make visitors welcome.
Right about the chip shop though.
Vindaloo - 25 Aug 2003 17:34 |
A good down-to-earth basic boozer! I have to say that the Charles Wells Bombardier there was just about the best I've ever tasted, but was frustrated to see two of the guest beer clips turned round just before I got the chance to taste them. I'll definitely visit that pub again.

One of the last real old fashioned public houses in Guildford. Located on Park Street just a couple of minutes walk from the railway station and the bars on Bridge Street. Has the added advantage of being next door to an excellent chippy.
