The Foresters Arms is one of my favourite pubs in Loughton.

It’s situated at the top of a hill and has seating at the front which overlooks the forest and seating at the back suitable for lazy Sundays in the summer.

It has excellent beers with a guest craft ale which changes regularly and a menu of locally sourced ingredients.

The interior is quirky with a number of taxidermy pieces as well as an open fire. Feels more like you’re in trendy East London that Essex.

Light at the end of the (dingy) tunnel.......!
Pub has new tenants and has had a minor, but excellent, makeover and there's still a lot of exterior work going on. It now looks and feels like a real pub inside and the staff actually seem to enjoy their work and make customers welcome.
Haven't had a chance to try the food yet, but this is obviously going to be a major part of the proprietors' plans for the future. Meanwhile, all the bitters I tried were good, and the barmaid was happy to let us try one or two.

The pub couldn't have got worse and it's certainly already much better. I look forward to visiting again soon to see how it's going.

where on earth you get that toilets are unclean is beyond me! This has got to be one of the cleanest pubs ive seen for a long time!!!
I dont have a bad word to say about this place - having visited pubs in the area I can safely say this the BEST roast I have tasted, properly home made!
Beautiful views, great food, great pub!

Yes; Jimdee again. Seems I'm the only active reviewer of the Foresters Arms.
Good news: Although I haven't eaten there, the food has obviously improved enormously, it looks and smells super.
Bad news; still the indifferent and small range of beers. Same dingy, scruffy interior,
Only redeeming feature is still the position and forest views

Following my posting on 23 Aug., we returned in September. Nothing had changed except I'm told the ladies' toilets were imsanitary !

Gastro-type decor, but scruffy and rundown looking. Tables and bar grubby, as are toilets. Only good feature of the pub is it's location, overlooking the forest, which is the sole reason I go there.
Drinks are pricey and frequently only 1 draught bitter available. Haven't eaten there but food looks average pub stuff, and again quite pricey.
Go there for the location, not for food and drink !

Visited this pub for the second time last friday as we had enjoyed our previous visit. The pub itself has been nicely done out in a modern style and we sat outside on the terrace overlooking Epping Forest and enjoyed the sunshine. The only real downside to the pub is the landlord's determination to serve a short pint, and I mean short, extremely irritating though doesn't seem to bother the regulars. My advice would be to try and get served by the other staff who all seemed to serve a decent pint.

Answer me this! What sort of place says they open at Midday, but then when you approach the door usher you away saying they haven't finished cleaning? Well, the answer is this place......twice! Visit at your peril!

Just what a pub should be. Good beer and service. Comfortable and quiet. You can hold a conversation without shouting.
