The Orchid group offer a Diamond Club for >50s which means thatwhen ordering any main course, you have the option to purchase any starters and desserts for and extra pound per course. This is available all day Mon-Fri and your card must be presented to the waitress when ordering your food.

This pub is now part of the Orchid chain. It was completely renovated in April 2010 and is now a stylish pub with a carvery & full la carte menu. The pub is a quiet beautiful setting full of plush leather armchairs and Chesterfields and boasts a 3D large TV above the open fireplace which the lads love when te footie is on. The staff are always happy, welcoming and attentive. The carvery is one of the finest around with fresh Farm Assured produce on offer. The chef often has a home-made pie of the day which is very popular with regulars. The la carte menu has a wide range of dishes to suit all tastes and all dishes including carvery can have items substituted without fuss to give you your perfect meal. The restaurant and carvery is available from 11-9 Mon-Sat and 12-830 Sun. Sunday afternoons are often busy enough to warrant a waiting list, however after 5 the restaurant is quite quiet - therefore for the best possible eating experience I would recommend visiting on Sunday evenings. All in all the Orchid group have turned this pub into a success story.

This pub isn't too far away from me, just a short 10 minute walk. Has three pool tables, sky TV and a restuarant area towards the back. However, I do find that whenever I go in there it is incredibly quiet! Bar staff etc have all been friendly when I have been in there and all in all it's a good pub to visit in a weekday evening.

Been past the Bread and Cheese many times as have lived in the area nearly all my life. Popped in for the first time today for lunch.
The bar and waiting staff were friendly, the booze good (my pint of guinness was great) however the food was not good value and not particularly tasty. I live in London so I'm used to paying a lot of money to dine out: the Bread and Cheese just need to up the quality and choice if they want to charge 19 for three courses.
Would go back if I was ever stuck on the hill and needed a pint, but there are better places to go for food in the area.
Also they make you pay before you sit down which is a bit strange.

I went for a pint last night and was rather impressed. The bar girl was polite and (more importantly) nice to look at. The barman (poss manager) was the most polite landlord i have ever spoken to. I will be back...... once i have found out what shifts that bar girl does!

Just Been Taken Over and I can see the improvement already. Having drunk in this pub for almost 9 years now i have met many landlords and landladies none of which i really got along with, Martin, Elaine, Natasha and Lewis are the new owners and they are lovely poilte and welcoming people. They have great plans for The Bread and Cheese and i Hope they suceed! Also... The Food is now delicious! a very good menu.

The live entertainment is the best in the area and I would highly recommend that you visit this pub/restaurant. The food is exceptional and reasonably priced and the weekend carvery is very tasty.
