A drinkers pub by the quayside. Served ales of scilly beer (can't recall which I had though it was 5%) and it was good.
Good decor - loads of nautical paraphernalia and flags. Can't comment on the food as didn't eat here. Heavy metal played on the music system which was fine by me and it wasn't loud so as to annoy others.
I reckon it could be a good session pub.

A good enough drinking house (but no real cider).

Food was expensive, not especially good and took a very long time to be served.

Super position and stuffed with nautical paraphernalia, the beers were reasonable quality but being a seaside tourist pub, there seemed to be little real spirit to the place and no reason to go back

A pub full of character serving an excellent pint of Doom Bar and lovely food from an extensive menu, including daily specials (normally locally caught fish of the season).

Fantastic pub right on the harbour of St Marys. A good mixture of locals and tourists and fine service. The beer was kept well and local ales on tap. Definitely the best pub on the Island. Didnt eat here so nothing to add. Pool table in good nick.

Reasonable pint of Scuppered here and the bar food turned out to be quite interesting, tasty and good value. Having said that I don't like the place (same thoughts back in 2007). Sarcastic comments from locals hogging the bar, when my wife asked for a taster, untidy furniture that nobody could be bothered to deal with, dirty tables and uncollected glasses and when we asked one of three bar staff for a cloth, rather than addressing the fact that at least three tables needed clearing and cleaning, they gave us the cloth and continued their conversation!!! They just watched us do it!! Puts you off a bit - won't be back unless someone says the management has changed.

Has a window to look out over the harbour. A nautical theme is found with many flags etc. Beer (Ales of Scilly Firebrand) was worse pint I had on the island and also found this pub to be the least friendly in what is generally a very friendly place.

Mat 09- Had a pint of Scupperd from Ales of Scilly - a tasty pint in excellent condition. Didn't sample the food on this occasion. 'Unique' interior of the main bar more or less the same as it has been for the last 40 or more years, but there is nothing wrong with that.

On the corner the street with the quay at the side the first building you come to coming off the Scillonian III. Downstairs 'Slip' bar and I believe dining room at the back but enjoyed the main bar so much they didn't get a look in. Main bar is basically one large high ceilinged room with open fire, view out to sea through one window, flags on the ceiling and pool table. Good selection of beers especially the 'Scuppered' from 'The Ales of Scilly' brewery.

Clicky, Clicky, Clicky! But lovely bar in the Slip. Food okay but not as good as last year. Beer okay but could be better. Scupperd sold here (Ales of Scilly) not as good as the Doombar or Tribute.

Nice Bar area in the Slip Inn. Food could be better. Beer tasted as if the barrels were about to go on three occasions didn't like the Scilly Ales.

We went to the Mermaid on our first night. Right off the key it has a bar on ground floor, restaurant upstairs and bar called the Slip Inn. Food was ok but beer was nothing to write home about (Scilly Ales). We both felt very uncomfortable in this pub and felt it had a clicky atmosphere. Some items were sold out (bacardi and some ales) this was due to cargo problems (I was told) but many of the other pubs seemed to be well stocked.

The Island: the main island - all others are 'off' islands. The only place with facilities others have at most one pub and one hotel and no bank.
The Pub: you arrive here before you've left the quay, can't miss it if you've arrived on the Scillonian. Comprises 3 areas - the Slip Inn plush looking downstairs bar that always appeared empty. Main bar with red felted pool table with ceiling covered in flags, and Restaurant at back facing the sea if you've booked or the harbour wall otherwise.
Beer: good pint of Scuppered from Ales of Scilley and also had Sharps Doom Bar (I think)
Food: Good place for fish and the burgers looked impressive

I can only assume the Mermaid has suffered from a change of staff since July 2004 as we went there last Friday and the food was very poor- the pasta dish seemed to be just a lukewarm jar of Dolmio poured over tagliatelli- which is a shame as the location is great and the friendly waitresses were doing their best in what were obviously difficult circumstances. We are not complainers usually but had to say something as it was just so bad. If people speak out then hopefully lessons will be learned. This is our third visit to the Scillies and the Mermaid has been going downhill each time.

Great fun. Beer quality has improved in recent years and Scuppered the local brew is usually available. Warning - if you see free seats opposite the main entrance, don't be tempted, sit there and the stench from the downstairs loos turns your beer a different colour!

superb upstairs restaurant - just try the homemade burgers: superb - You'll have to book though
