Manages the trick of having a lively and convivial bar area - packed both nights we were there - as well as running an excellent restaurant and top-notch hotel. Highly recommended.

No noticeable changes since my last visit despite new owners this June. If it ain't broke, don't fix it I suppose (although I have read elsewhere that there may be a refurbishment in the New Year). Purity Gold and Old Hooky still available on Friday evening as were TT Landlord and Doom Bar. I tried a couple of pints of the Old Hooky this time. Food was good with plenty of game & red meat options although not so much variety for pollo-pescetarians.

This is an upmarket pub which always seems to be busy. It is good walking country around here (you can walk to the highest point in Warwickshire which offers a great view even at a mere 261 metres!) and the pub was perfectly welcoming to us walkers this afternoon even if we weren't as dressed to impress as the other patrons (although we had changed our boots first). The Wye Valley Christmas Whiskers was very good, also available were Old Hooky and Purity Gold. P.S. Although it is not listed on this site there is another pub in the village within walking distance, Hook Norton's Red Lion which looks less gastrofied.

A sunday walk from Lower Quinton was 7 miles in when this oasis appeared. Muddy boots removed as I crossed the threshold and that was a good choice. Very posh cotswolds pub, with great decor on the inside. I asked if they did sarnies and was presented with an extensive menu of quality food, which was a bit more than I need to get me the last 3 miles back. Settled on a superb pint of Old Hooky in the beer garden. Nice pub, but pricey - Sunday Roast was �15 and pint of hookey - �3.60.

We visited the Howard Arms on a Sunday in January 2011 to celebrate my and my mother-in-law's birthdays. We booked a table for 4 in the restaurant. We'd been here a few times per year for the last decade or so travelling 80 miles round trip and were still unsure as to whether the current owners (for the last few years) could match the award winning status the Greenstocks brought to 'The Howard'. It was going OK until the main courses arrived, I had beef but the other 3 had slices from a leg of lamb - the meat was interlaced with fat and was tough and chewy as a result. It was also served with Yorkshire puddings which is a bit odd for lamb and they weren't even nice ones, dry and hard. We advised the staff who were very apologetic and offered some beef or to take off the bill which is fair enough (my party took the latter option) but this shouldn't happen in a pub where a simple roast is �16 per person and the total meal bill for 4 with minimal drinks would have been around �140 and the atmosphere was irrepairable. There were other minor mistakes too which don't happen very often if at all in other pub restaurants. We noticed for the first time in a long time empty tables which might be sending a message? So after a decade we'll be looking for an alternative because as they say nothing good ever lasts forever...

Rustic looking Cotswold 'TARDIS' that genuinely seems alot smaller on the outside than it really is. Me and my aide-de-pint got in here just after it opened for the evening session on a Sunday and even at that time the accommodation and restaurant were filling up quickly. The client�le definitely had more than a few pennies to rub together but the lady behind the bar treated us reprobates no differently. A lovely pint of Old Hooky followed whilst I sat next to the huge, roaring fire. Just what you want now that its getting a bit brass monkeys outside.

Very attractive Cotswold pub with delightful (but expensive) rooms. Quality of food on the two visits I have made had been varied, excellent starters but main courses left something to be desired namely over cooked breast of pheasant and very indifferent rib eye steak. What really irritates me abou The Howard Arms is their reluctance to serve you a drink after 11pm - if your are a resident they will provide one for you to take to your room, but this is hardly hospitality at its best. With so much excellent competition around the management need to keep on top of their game.

We enjoyed an excellent pint of Hooky 303 (now on in place of NCB Genesis) along with calves liver,bacon & balsamic dressing which not only tasted good & was served by aimiable staff but was excellent value for money at �14 including garlic mash & fresh vegetables.

Food very poor value for money despite decent menu selection . Locals very snooty and pretentious. The Red Lion down the road offers more of a friendly welcome

Food Orientated with emphasis on quality (needs booking and mains �9-15) � beers from 2 local breweries when we called and in excellent condition
