I have been going here for the quiz on Sunday's for a year, Simon runs a good quiz.
But went there tonight, and as the quiz is held in a room behind the main bar we did not hear the bell. Just a minute after 11 (they were still serving other people) we were told NO ! But when I questioned why they were still serving their 'friends' Instead of the barman apologising nicely and saying sorry but it's gone 11, he got quite nasty, and said if you don't like it don't come back again ! Whoops what ! I said beg your pardon, did I just hear that correctly ? Well if that's the way you talk to your customers then, I definitely won't be coming back again. Then he sarcastically replied that's fine, don't want you to. I don't know if this guy has an agenda maybe he wants to piss off his boss by losing his customers. Cest La Vie he had a bad day and I just happened to be the one that got it.....

Seeing as my last comments about this place have been removed by the censor I will try again to convey my feelings re: this gaff in slightly more conservative tones. Is it the worst pub I have ever been in! A nice building but the punters are horrific! And this isn't a new phenomenen - it was the same 20 years ago!! Dreadful, awful, painful!!

Dire, simply dire... Lovely building though.

This pub is brilliant.
For the one reason that it keeps all the hobos, freaks and psychos off the streets and out of the other pubs.
They've gotta drink somewhere!
Thanks Mitre.

A place near my house, but somewhere I was never been brave enough to go into. It looks shocking; the actual building is quite impressive and grand. However the periodically arrival of pikies standing around and oil drum fire selling Christmas tree's can't be a good impression.

Could be good, currently it clearly isn't.

This is the worst pub I have ever had the misfortune to step into. Infact it was so bad I insisted on sitting outside the front in the cold just to avoid the unfriendliness (Think of The Slaughtered Lamb pub in American Werewolf only worse).
Slurring pissheads picking fights and shouting at TVs.

I used to work in this pub many moons ago for about 4 years. In that time I saw it dragged out of the gutter by 2 decent landlords who barred a record number of yobs from here and made it a friendly, decent family pub. I remember when the place was refurbished (as a Taylor Walker pub) and the whole interior was spruced up. It looked lovely. Once the hard nuts were barred, the place had a mixed clientele and before the era of late night pubs in Tooting, this place used to be heaving on a Sat night. It did great Sunday roasts and bar snacks and in summer the hanging baskets outside used to look fantastic. Maybe it was the innocence of youth but I really enjoyed working here and it was friendly and social.

Fast forward to the present and its now a Q's pub so pretty soulless. Full of footie yobs and most of the barred punters have crawled back in again to prop up the bar and glare at strangers. I agree what Jeffrey said about an 'air of menace' as that's exactly how I felt when I went in there recently for a swift drink. The interior has not been maintained so its drab and dirty looking, the tables looked filthy and the bar stools looked like they'd knocked several lumps out of someone!

Having moved out of London I really miss traditional London pubs, not your trendy bars, but a real old fashioned London pub. I think its a real shame this place has gone to ruin as I think with a little bit of thought, a damn good refurbishment (again) and some stricter management of clientele, this could be a decent pub again for those drinkers who prefer a pint or 2 in an establishment that is friendly and the only volume is that of the people in there. I would hate to see it renovated a la Horse & Groom/Bar2Far into some loud trendy bar (okay the H&G wasnt always great to begin with but it had tradition and occasionally some good bands). London pubs are an institution and it would be lovely if someone could save this one.

A shocking pub, never has the human race looked so mis-guided and wrong in dress, outlook and persona. Anyone with any sense whilst in Tooting would head of to the simply superb Mayfair Tavern underneath Tooting Islamic Centre, now that is a good pub!

Could be great: Lovely, old building with ample seating inside and out, offering handy location for the tube and restaurants.
Unfortunately it's not (see below)

This pub is one of South London's finest, having lived opposite for over a year, I can safely say that the police visit this place more than I do. I thought inbreeding was restrcited to certain parts of the deep south USA not South London, a real 'Family' atmosphere, where everyone knows your name....because you all have the same name and the same family...... I think the saying goes 'in the land of the Chav Scum, the Burberry suited man is king', if this is the case then the Chav oligarchy hold court at the Mitre.....Exactly what they rule is beyond me....

Nightmare, no surrender pikey England fan hellhole

I used to be a regular in the pub many moons ago. I'm afraid a change of managment and installation of the pool tables has truly sunk what was a quite decent pub.

an absolute dive, poorly maintained and with an air of menace about the place. had the misfortune to be in there one night for an england game and was disgusted by the abusive behaviour of the "regulars" and genuinely concerned for the safety of the kiwi barstaff. 'nuff said.

fantasticly run pub good atmosphere ideal for the football,
all round family pub, needs some money spent on it.

Too much sport and arsehole boy racer punters. Not good.

Lovely cheep pub. Three pool tables, about 15 t.v. screens for sports and the video jukebox. Two quiz machines, an arcade machine and four fruit machines.

Plus the bar staff are great!
